IRS ‘Lost’ Emails From Six More Involved In Targeting

From an unquestioning Associated Press:

Lawmakers: IRS lost more emails in tea party probe

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Internal Revenue Service has lost more emails connected to the tea party investigation, congressional investigators said Tuesday… On Tuesday, two key lawmakers said the IRS has also lost emails from six additional IRS workers whose computers crashed. Among them was Nikole Flax, who was chief of staff to Lerner’s boss, then-deputy commissioner Steven Miller…

Once again, notice how this is being uncovered by the Republicans in the House. It isn’t being uncovered by our watchdog news media. In fact, the news media have uncovered very few facts about this or any other Obama scandal. Why is that?

(By the way, Steven Miller is one of those people we were supposed to believe was fired, but who was in fact leaving his position anyway.)

Investigators from the House Ways and Means Committee interviewed IRS technicians Monday. The technicians said they first realized that Lerner’s emails were lost in February or March — months before they informed congressional investigators, said a statement by two top Republicans on the Ways and Means Committee, chairman Dave Camp of Michigan and subcommittee chairman Charles Boustany of Louisiana.

Well, it probably just slipped their minds. Even though these documents were specifically requested by the investigators because they are so crucial to their investigation.

The two lawmakers called on the Justice Department to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the IRS, something Attorney General Eric Holder has declined to do in the past.

Why waste your breath?

"It looks like the American people were lied to and the IRS tried to cover up the fact it conveniently lost key documents in this investigation," the statement by Camp and Boustany said. "The White House promised full cooperation, the commissioner promised full access to Lois Lerner emails and now the agency claims it cannot produce those materials and they’ve known for months they couldn’t do this."

It’s pretty mean to point that out.

"It is unfortunate that the IRS experienced equipment failure that resulted in several computers crashing and some email data being lost from Lois Lerner’s hard drive between 2009 and 2011," said Rep. Sander Levin of Michigan, the top Democrat on the Ways and Means Committee. "But every equipment failure is not a conspiracy…"

Accidents happen. Just as Rosemary Woods. And nobody questioned her.

Lerner’s computer crashed in the summer of 2011, depriving investigators of many of her prior emails. Flax’s computer crashed in December 2011, Camp and Boustany said.

The IRS said Friday that technicians went to great lengths trying to recover data from Lerner’s computer in 2011. In emails provided by the IRS, technicians said they sent the computer to a forensic lab run by the agency’s criminal investigations unit. But to no avail.

This is simply not credible. In reality hard drives have to be degaussed with incredibly powerful magnets dozens if not hundreds of times to be sure that all of the data is removed. This does not happen accidentally.

The IRS was able to generate 24,000 Lerner emails from the 2009 to 2011 period because Lerner had copied in other IRS employees. Overall, the IRS said it is producing a total of 67,000 emails to and from Lerner, covering the period from 2009 to 2013.

So it just happened to lose almost half of her emails.

By the way, who sends or receives 67,000 emails in two years? If Ms. Lerner never got a day off or a vacation, she would work 260 days a year. Two years is 520 days. Which means she sent or received 129 emails a day.

In reality, because of holidays, that number would be much higher. Is that all Lois Lerner did, send and receive emails all day? When did she find the time to harass the Tea Party?

That is real dedication to the cause.

    The GOP hates the Tea Party principles and hates anyone who goes the Tea Party route .. why? Because the GOP wants to control Washington and the IRS the way the Democrats are.

    In all seriousness, I expect Issa and Gowdy have instructions to drag this out until the public is tired of it and then make it die on the vine.

    Lerner gave a statement “this stuff happens” and they only keep e-mails for 6 months?

    But, everyone else in the country has to keep records for a life-time.

    Have these people not heard of Carbonite? Just kidding.

    This is the IRS we’re talking about. They only keep their e-mails for 6 months? That is on its’ face a lie. And I’d wager that all you’d have to do is check the IRS employee handbook to prove it.

    The government bureaucracy may finally come up and start eating its’ own tail. These e-mails are going to turn up, and it’s not going to take very long once the right geek is in the right place. These things are backed up, and the back ups are backed up, and the backups of the back ups are backed up. That is the government way. Superfluous redundancy is S.O.P., and it may finally be useful to the people instead of the government morons who have secured themselves in the depths of their own excrement. Here’s hoping they get a few mouthfulls before they drown in it.

    I suggest that the committee offer any IT geek Lois Lerner’s golden parachute and retirement package in exchange for these e-mails. We’ll have them in about an hour.

    e-mails aren’t saved on individual computers in a network. period. no individual computer crashing (or 6) is going to destroy or lose them. either the e-mails were deliberately removed or they are simply refusing to cooperate and are daring the flaccid gop elitists to do anything about it.

    1. Emails are kept on a SERVER! That’s why you can’t delete an email without being connected to the INTERNET. They aren’t stored on your hard-drive.

    (This is why when your family member dies of poisoning, the police can search the SERVER to see who’s I.P. (your computer) searched on how to make poison.)

    2. THE N.S.A. KEEPS A RECORD OF EVERYTHING! “The All-Seeing Eye” of government keeps a permanent record. Just subpoena that. Or have the Republicans forgotten the name Edward Snowden already, and the furor he caused/exposed?

    Democrats = Snidely Whiplash
    Republicans = Mr. Magoo

    Don’t ever get your hopes up that Mr. Magoo will every uncover, or foil the schemes of, Snidely Whiplash.
