Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. I thought Israel had said at the beginning of this whole thing that they'd stop when Hamas (a) quit firing rockets into Israel and (b) quit stockpiling weapons. So how is this new?

Clearly, I must be stupid. I know you'll all laugh, but those conditions sound perfectly reasonable to me.

How does it go "What is war good for"?

Well, other than abolishing slavery, defeating facism, defeating communism, freeing the iraqi people, protecting the South Koreans from communist agression, freeing Kuwait, and keeping the Israeli people free............not much.

The typical liberal response being that "if they would just stop the fighting, the killing, then they could talk to each other long enough to figure out that they're not so different and learn to live together". I've never understood that point of view.
I used to stage "give war a chance" counter-protests when I was in college back in 2003 during the build up to the Iraq war. Some folks didn't take that too well, but honestly, what's the problem? I've never understood why some people consider the cessation of the current round of hostilities to be a goal worth pursuing in and of itself. Carter and Clinton really hung their hats on that idea, that they really did something by getting them to stop fighting for the time being. Everybody knew to give it a week or two and they would be back at it, so why waste so much time and effort trying to get both sides to stop fighting for the moment?

I really hope Israel doesn't buy this nonsense, especially under Hamas' conditions. This is a stand or fall situation and compromising with Hamas just means eventual death. No matter what they do the propagandist media will portray them as the bad guy so they should just ignore them. What's the alternative?

Israel comes to the negotiating table and states their objectives and what they're willing to give. They want peace and will give land. Hamas' objectives are death to Israel and they will give nothing. That's the reality of this situation.

Obama hasn't commented on the conflict with the excuse that there is only one president at a time. But that's inconsistent with his recent past and I don't buy it. Now if he agreed with the administration's position, why would it be a problem to express that? I don't give him the benefit of the doubt and believe it's because he won't support Israel in this conflict. If his administration is going to stand against Israel then all nations will be standing against Israel. Sound familiar?

Does anyone else think the cease-fire might be nothing more than a timeout to let PeBo become PBo? You know, to see who He eventually sides with?

Anyone else notice how the cease-fire came around the same time PeBo answered "present" when asked about the conflict?

I can't for January 20.
