It’s Sweetness & Light’s Fifth Anniversary!

This weekend we here at Sweetness & Light will be celebrating our fifth anniversary.

Where does the time go?

As has become a tradition, we would like to thank Ann Coulter, Lucianne Goldberg, Thomas Lifson, Mark Levin and Rush Limbaugh, for helping us to spread Sweetness & Light over the years.

But most of all we would like to thank you, gentle reader. And we are especially grateful to everyone who takes the time to post a comment or send in a news tip, or post an item in ‘Selected News.’

Thank you all very much.

And happy birthday to us all!

    It’s not a web-site, it’s a service.

Just based on listening to Rush occasionally, Steve’s influence far outweighs the size or fame of the site.

This is one of the few places where pro-American free speech is allowed to flourish, even when the host disagrees. Add in the fact that decorum is enforced so things never get out of hand, and it’s a potent combo.

    Rare indeed.

Words can’t express how grateful I am for S&L, except to say that once I was lost and wandering. Today I am liberated and know my direction.

Reading back on the comments of birthdays past, I must agree emphatically with SheehanJihad in 2009.

Happy birthday S&L and a humble thanks to Steve.

    “It’s not a web-site, it’s a service.”

Absolutely. Having given up on the alphabet media and only being able to occasionally listen to Rush, this site has become my primary resource for news and political reporting. Also having figured out a way to avoid the yahoo news being the “in-your-face” page when I log on to my e-mail, I no longer get exposed to AP news, which is a huge relief.

There are many other sites I go to and in spite of the socialists caterwauling, I find them remarkably consistent without relying on talking points as does the socialist bent of the LSM. I love it when Rush plays a montage of all the “services” saying exactly the same thing, exactly the same way at exactly the same time…all day or week long. Yet I go to S&L, American Thinker, Michelle Malkin, Pajamas Media, Brietbart, Glenn Beck, Hannity, etc etc etc and they are consistent, but have arrived at the same conclusions independently.

The best thing, still, about S&L is how Steve (and others) dissect a “news” story and expose the outrageous slant and ridiculous bent they have. Sadly, many self-proclaimed “aware” people think the LSM is the only honest and true reporting of the news. Years ago I became aware of their ineptitude and hatred towards conservatives and shut them off. I am eternally grateful that Steve Gilbert and others have put the truth onto the internet, which, thankfully, is still free.

Thanks Steve! Were it not for your site, I would be very unaware.

  4. wterrier says:

Thanks Steve and Congratulations! And Steve you rank right up there with all those Great Americans you mentioned. Here’s to lots more years of spreading Sweetness and Light. God Bless.

  5. jobeth says:

Congrats and a sincere thanks Steve.

I’ve learned so much from your topic and story posts and the comments from the S&Lers.

I reccomend S&L to all I can…Info here is sourced and can be depended on to be based on fact and not rumor.
Very important to us now a days

    Thank you Steve!

  6. hushpuppy says:

Steve – many heartfelt thanks for providing the means to keep hearing and reading the truth-without the slant. Everyone here has already said what is in my heart (especially Rusty!)

I’m relieved there are still places where we can sound off…

Happy Birthday Steve and thank you for all you do!

  7. wirenut says:

I linked to this site from Ann Coulter’s, a few years back. Have been a FAN ever since. This is NOT a think tank. It’s a FREEDOM OF THOUGHT ZONE! Thank you Steve! Wye I coodind’nt Evin SpEll tell B-4 i found thiz place. It’s the people you get here and the class that YOU have, that makes this house work. When I’m here, I feel right at home.

  8. Happy Anniversary! I don’t get to come around and comment as much as I would like, but you’re one of my favorite sites for news, commentary, and camaraderie.

  9. Zilla says:

    Happy Birthday S&L!!

  10. Melly says:

So happy I found S & L….thanks to Mark Levin mentioning it during his radio broadcast.
    Happy anniversary!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    And thank you Steve.

  11. courtneye says:

Thank you so much for your hard work! I found your site from a link on Ann Coulter’s website, and I can’t thank her enough for that. Your work is so important!!

  12. wardmama4 says:

    Happy Anniversary!

I love this site and found it when I was chastised (more than once) for pointing out the lies & flaws in Mother Sheehan’s anti-war shtick at other sites. At least here, I found kindred souls – who do not care if you agree or disagree – just use the truth and some credible source of fact and/or proof to support your thought process.

Keep up the good work everyone – Now that Dear Leader has come out in support of Freedom of (Muslim) Religion – We The People are in for a long, tough fight.

    Thank You Steve.

  13. sheehanjihad says:

    From the Katrina/Sheehan days…Happy fifth S&L!

  14. wirenut says:

S.J., You and 1st have your own corner. I smell a tater-stick in the making and a target that needs a breaking.HAW-haw! My oldest son just bought me my first left-handed rifle I’ve ever had. Tomorrow is the test, can a lefty shoot a firearm left handed? I’ve always had to adapt to right handed equipment. I can’t be out shot by a right handed son on a left handed gun.

    • DW says:

If you’re a lefty and shooting a left-handed weapon, perhaps you should try shooting it at a leftist.
If it goes well, we’ll put you in our starting lineup.
      Just a thought…

  15. beautyofreason says:

Thank you for creating this site. Visiting here is one of the more enjoyable parts of my day. I love the bits when you expose the mainstream media for their bias.

  16. DW says:

    From the Katrina/Sheehan days…Happy fifth S&L!

Kinda sad to think that those days were care-free compared to now…

Hey Steve, congratulations. Whould’a thunk back in the day, eh?

Over the years, the site has gained some truly great members. There is plenty of thoughtful, articulate commentary to be found here and it is based -as always- on the endless work you do -bringing us otherwise unreported or under-reported news that we should know about.

This site is indeed a service and I thank you for all the trouble you’ve taken to provide it for us.

As an aside: Last month I climbed into my Jeep and drove some six-hundred miles southwest of where I currently live. There I met two very fine people who had travelled an even greater distance north. We’d never met before. In fact we had no connection at all except we were both “S&L’ers” who had exchanged e-mail addresses through you, some time ago. Three days were spent touring the countryside, checking out the local museums and the fine dining, supporting the brewery industry, solving the problems of the world and cementing a friendship that began solely because of this site.
This isn’t a chat room. It isn’t a dating site (though God knows I’ve tried – Groovygrl and Shapter are you both reading??? -grin) but I’ve been fortunate enough to start a number of online friendships with some truly excellent and like-minded people.
    Here.
Never underestimate the value of that.

So again, thank you Steve. And congratulations.

  17. rakkasan says:

    Cheers!

  18. Liberals Make Great Speedbumps says:

What can I say that hasn’t already been said by the others? This site is so informative and entertaining at the same time. What a difficult combination to sustain for 5 years and so consistently well at that. Even if the site wasn’t so informative, I’d still come here just for your sarcastic comments on the news articles Steve. When you are on a roll, my sides ache. (well, you and artboy!)

  19. Eagle334th says:

Steve, how do you do it? Seriously, I don’t think I’ve ever seen you take a day off! You’re amazing!

Unfortunately, I can’t remember how I found this site so long ago, but I am so glad I did! As you can probably tell from whatever type of counter you have, I check this site numerous times a day. Numerous. You are one of the first sites I hit in the morning and one of the last I hit before bed. I know I can rely on you to tell me what’s really going on with our great country and the world better than any other site around.

Thank you so much for all the hard work you put in. And thanks to all my fellow S&L’ers for all the great comments and news bits you contribute! If we could only get Canary to start truncating some of their posts… Just teasing.

    Again, thanks, Steve! And congrat’s!!

  20. After arriving from originally being a part of the “Get drunk and vote for McCain” site, this environment has truly proven to be a cure for the hangover.

  21. BigOil says:

In the fight against liberalism, S&L has always been on the front line. Keep up the good work Steve – we’ll be right there with you.

  22. Petronius says:

I’m in danger of becoming addicted to S&L.

Just when I think I’m out, they pull me back in!

    Thanks and cheers!

    Deo, patriae, amicis.

  23. ThreeBus says:

    Happy Anniversary!

Steve, you run a classy site.

    Congratulations on 5 years!

  24. TwilightZoned says:

This site was accidentally stumbled onto while surfing the internet. The articles and comments are enlightening. But more so, this site has given me REAL hope – knowing I am not alone in my thoughts and beliefs. A true blessing in, perhaps, one of America’s darkest times in history. God bless you, Steve. Congratulations on 5 years and may many more follow!

  25. Warmonger Infidel says:

    Happy Birthday Steve and S & L!

Not posting these days but always remember the site’s birthday because it is a birthday I share. FYI, just returned from Kandahar…..what a freaking disaster the president has created.

    Keep up the good work!

    • Steve says:

      “FYI, just returned from Kandahar…”

Wow. I’m sure we would all love to hear about your experiences, once you catch your breath.

    • jobeth says:

      My thoughts exactly, Steve.

Happy Birthday, Warmonger! Glad you’re home!

      And many Thanks!

    • tranquil.night says:

      I can’t begin to imagine.

Happy birthday Warmonger. I hope your homecoming has been as great as you deserve.

We’re so grateful for our S&L soldier bees.

    • Melly says:

      Happy Birthday!

    • Liberals Make Great Speedbumps says:

Happy birthday WI, thank you and welcome home.

  26. ptat says:

I have been blessed immeasurably by this site and it’s wonderful contributors. Many Thanks!

  27. The Redneck says:

Wirenut isn’t the only one who came here from Anncoulter.com. I did too, years ago,on one of the issues that had been successfully buried and forgotten until y’all got hold of it and dragged it into the light.

I’m proud to be a part of it.

  28. Liberals Demise says:

I was drunk and visiting the McCain site when I accidentally triggered your fine site.
Congratulations Steve and I am siding with you about the success of S&L to the people who chime in. I have met some outstanding like minded Americans who see our glass is going empty………quickly!

It happens to be RB Tini time so once again “Thanks to everyone here who chafes the wheat from the shaft.”

  29. fallingpianos says:

I lurked here for a few years before I finally decided to jump into the fray several months ago. The comments section is the main draw for me… the insight, analysis, and humor from the gang here is simply amazing. I really like how S&L is presented; even though it consists of posts and comments like most other blogs, Steve doesn’t usually write thought pieces (although the rare times he does it is well worth the read) so it makes the format more interactive. Another bonus is that there are just enough commenters and comments to sustain interest and encourage participation without it being overwhelming to read.

I don’t remember exactly how I landed here, but as a longtime Rush listener I’m sure he had something to do with it, either by direct mention or through the American Thinker (which I heard of because of him).

Keep up the good work, Steve. Long live Sweetness & Light!

  30. studmuffin says:

Has it really been five years? It seems like just yesterday I was checking the site daily for new pictures of the Sheehag fake-crying for the cameras…ah, nostalgia! I also can’t believe I’ve been here since very near the beginning.

One thing I think we can all agree on, though, is that the site’s success is due mainly to me. You’re all welcome!

  31. spiffyw says:

Holy Cow where did the time go ….
The Scanky Snag is still Scanky …..uuuugh
Nice to see Warmonger D others pop up ……
Keep it up…… You know you are making a difference for us all.
    Thank’s
    Really…

  32. Gil says:

Keep up the great work.. five more years!
    Can we say that? :)
Thanks for the great site, Steve and all.
