John Conyers Plans A ‘Jena Six’ Investigation

From the Washington Times:

Melissa Bell (left) and Marcus Jones (behind the Rev. Al Sharpton), parents of Mychal Bell, one of the Jena 6, made their way past a gaggle of reporters to a press conference in the Rayburn House Office Building on Capitol Hill yesterday.

Conyers eyes Jena 6 probe

September 26, 2007

By Eric Pfeiffer - House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers Jr., appearing with the Rev. Al Sharpton by his side, said he will convene hearings to investigate the handling of the Jena 6 case and prosecutions of blacks nationwide.

We’re trying to put together an understanding of how we can present this to the American people,” said Mr. Conyers, Michigan Democrat, describing what he called a “miscarriage of justice” and the “circumstances of segregation that have been part of our legal system.”

During a Capitol Hill press conference, Mr. Conyers, other members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) and the family of one of the six black teens from Jena, La., charged with beating a white student said the blacks were dealt with too severely.

If you can’t understand Jena, you can’t understand us. We are in jail because of who we are, not what we are,” said Mr. Sharpton, who last week led a major protest in the town.

Martin Luther King III said the Jena 6 story could be used for good.

“There must be reconciliation to bring this community back together,” he said. “This is not about tearing apart.”

However, Mr. King also added, “We know that Jenas exist all over America.”

Mychal Bell, the only student tried so far, has had his conviction thrown out by a local trial judge and by the Louisiana Court of Appeals. He remains incarcerated while the state’s district attorney decides either to appeal the ruling or to try Mr. Bell as a juvenile.

Nothing short of immediate release is even worth further discussion,” said Mr. Sharpton of New York.

CBC Chairman Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, Michigan Democrat, demanded that Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco, a Democrat, pardon Mr. Bell.

“An atrocity has been done … Governor Blanco, pardon this man,” she said.

Mrs. Blanco’s office says the governor has “reached out” to the state district attorney, the state attorney general and the state’s U.S. attorney to express her concern about the case.

In addition, Mrs. Blanco is scheduled to meet with Mr. Sharpton and Mr. King today to discuss the case and will meet with members of Congress to discuss her “lack of authority” on the pardon issue.

U.S. Attorney Donald Washington has previously said that there is no evidence of unfair prosecution in Mr. Bell’s case, given that Mr. Bell has faced prior assault charges.

Mr. Bell’s parents spoke briefly at the press conference, saying their son remains in good spirits.

“He appreciates everyone that’s coming out to support him,” said Mr. Bell’s mother, Melissa.

House Republicans privately said they were not invited to the meeting between Mr. Bell’s parents and black leaders.

Gee, what a surprise.

The professional race-baiters are going to milk this non-story for all they can.

Hopefully Mr. Conyers will field his usual star-studded panel of experts.

Damn…do these people never give up? Now the mother is being paraded around the halls of congress as some kind of hero role model? She rasied a little punk, bully, thug, criminal asshole…..and sharpie and conyers are pround of her? That is just sick. No wonder these people can’t advance beyond the jungle mentality. Yeah, call me a racist but that’s about where I’m at right now with these people. Now where is visionaryrevolution when we need him to start a stupid argument about PUNISH THEM ALL. Yikes.

    You are exactly right WI.
I just wonder how many more little thugs she has dropped sired by different sperm donors.

Is there not one person anywhere with the guts to stand up and say there is no comparison between a “noose” and a group of kids beating the cr*p out of another?

  4. fight_the_good_fight

So I know why she thinks she is there but exactly what authority is being given to Cindy Sheehan in this situation? Maybe these thugs acted like this because of all the radiation in Iraq.

SG…correction if I’m wrong, but that bottom picture with the snag looks familiar from some end the war meetings about a year ago in D.C. No?

I may be misunderstanding him but I think I have to disagree with Mr. Sharpton. I would say that they are in jail because of what they DID… not who they are or what they are.

WI, that photo is from the famous basement “Downing Street Memo” hearings, from June 2005 — now more than two years ago.

    How time flies.

Thanks SG….just wanted to be sure my memory wasn’t going wobbly.

Our taxes dollars at work again. We get to pay for a bunch of leftists to sit in congress and decry the prosectution of violent felons and demand hearings and investigations into why criminals like the Jena 6 were arrested. God knows the money could actually be used for something of actual value instead of inflating the idea that if your black and arrested it was racially motiviated and you were innocent of the crime, even if they have you dead to rights on video.

U.S. Attorney Donald Washington has previously said that there is no evidence of unfair prosecution in Mr. Bell’s case, given that Mr. Bell has faced prior assault charges.

Leave it to the AP to slant this sentence. Truth be known, Mr. Washington actually “investigated” the noose incident, the fights prior to the Jena 6 incident and the actions of the prosecutor in the assault case and found nothing bearing any impropriety. Nothing..!!

But that just isn’t good enough for Sharptongue, Slim Shady, Con-man-yers and the rest of the race baiting Dhimmicratic caucus. Frikkin’ morons.

There goes any progress for Civil Rights made during the last 50 years.

Mr. Sharpton said that all blacks are violent career felons and should be forgiven for their crimes, that it is racist to hold them to the same standards as white criminals. Or didn’t he mean it when he said:”We are in jail because of who we are, not what we are.”

The Wrong Rev. Jesse Jackass on fox with O’Reilly tonight. O’Reilly tossing big juicy softballs to him so Jackass can spew his view of all things racial while O’Reilly fawns over him. Disgusting. Fox may as well change their name to CNN2 or MSNBC2. They are all whores for ratings.

“The Wrong Rev. Jesse Jackass on fox with O’Reilly tonight.”

    There’s a “Right Rev. Jesse Jackass”…??? Heaven help us…!!! ( Just kidding WI…. LOL..!! )

  14. Warmonger Infidel

    You liked that eh GM?

  15. DEZ

Heck and all I ever called him was Rev. Jesse Jacks’em.
    I am so 80’s

I think my play on words came from my Catholic upbringing…..we had priests who were referred to as Right Reverend. Just thought I’d spin it around a bit for the jackass. After watching him on Fox tonight I think he’s O’Reilly’s new best friend. I think clergy in the Anglican church are also referred to as Right Reverend.

  17. Gila Monster

I know that someone here tagged him with “Slim Shady”, in my book, an instant classic, “Right” along side WI’s classic moniker for the “Gud Revrun’”…;o)
