We were supposed to graduate together, but he took a sabbatical from high school to help Al Gore invent the internet. They both had to be held back a year for that.

He and Al actually were a graduating class of two. In his biography J.F. Kerry stated that he actually graduated second in his class, and Al Gore graduated second from last. This was just before his second movie, “Cambodia Caper” , was released to critical acclaim at the Cannes Film Festival. Or is that the “Campbells Soup Vegetable”?

I was there on R&R at the same time. Kerry and I went to the Bing Crosby/HoChiMinh/Shriners benefit dance. He ruined it for everyone when he tripped and fell face first into the peel-n-eat shrimp bowl. That’s what he got his 3rd ‘Heart” for. Lucky for him we got him med-evaced out of there before the waiters could recover and kick his ass!

No apology necessary, Odie. It appears the apple didn’t fall far from the tree. By the way, my oldest grandson just recently completed boot camp and is in his MOS school right now. He’s a 4th generation Marine.

Best wishes on your up-coming nuptials, too. Mrs. MG and I are 40 years and counting. Just like with 1st, when you find a good one grab on tight–it’s a helluva ride. ;-}

I forgot to thank you for your service, my fault. My dad was a navy submariner, who was in tactical recon during the Bay of Pigs and Cuban Missle Crisis, while aboard the USS Angler, non nuclear sub. He is technically a Vietnam Vet (served until 1966) but refuses to consider himself one because he served in the Atlantic fleet, without coming near the Gulf of Tonkin (sic) and Vietnam.

I am a lucky guy to know such men.

Garbage in… garbage out.

I wonder if the stink is still “seering in his memory”…

I had a great conversation with my father in law to be, who is a Vietnam Vet, 5 Bronze Star, 2 Silver Star recipient concerning the Kerry types. This is a man (my father in law to be) who JOINED the army after losing a college roomate – with the explanation “if a lottery decides who go’s and dies – I don’t see the fairness, so I joined” He served 2 tours and came out a Captain. When talking about Kerry – he related a story of coming under fire, they scrambled out of their tent – and happened to break his toe, then took his position and returned fire for a few hours. When it ended – his commanding officer put in for a Purple Heart, because technically – he qualified. He said he fought tooth and nail for it to not go through and refused to accept the award, though it was presented.

I am glad to be around and know a man of such character.
