Judge Who Nixed Oil Ban Owns Oil Stock!

From Mr. Obama’s tireless opposition researchers at the Associated Press:

Judge who nixed drilling ban has oil investments

By Curt Anderson And Michael Kunzelman, Associated Press Writers

NEW ORLEANS – The Louisiana judge who struck down the Obama administration’s six-month ban on deepwater oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico has reported extensive investments in the oil and gas industry, according to financial disclosure reports. He’s also a new member of a secret national security court.

U.S. District Judge Martin Feldman, a 1983 appointee of President Ronald Reagan, reported owning less than $15,000 in stock in 2008 in Transocean Ltd., the company that owned the sunken Deepwater Horizon drilling rig.

Isn’t it amazing the kind of investigative reporting that the Associated Press can do when they are truly motivated?

Judge Feldman lives in Louisiana. We suspect that a lot of people in the region have invested in the local economy. That is what good citizens do.

Moreover, most people with an investment portfolio probably own shares in some aspect of the oil industry. Despite the left’s best efforts, it is still a major source of investment income in this country.

Feldman overturned the ban Tuesday, saying the government simply assumed that because one rig exploded, the others pose an imminent danger, too

Following the government’s logic here, we should close every restaurant in the country whenever there is an occurrence of food poisoning in any one of them.

Feldman’s 2008 financial disclosure report — the most recent available — also showed investments in Ocean Energy, a Houston-based company, as well as Quicksilver Resources, Prospect Energy, Peabody Energy, Halliburton, Pengrowth Energy Trust, Atlas Energy Resources, Parker Drilling and others. Halliburton was also involved in the doomed Deepwater Horizon project.

Feldman did not respond to requests for comment and to clarify whether he still holds some or all of these investments.

Obviously, Judge Feldman is corrupt. Of course, anyone who opposes Mr. Obama’s diktats is either corrupt or a racist — or both. At least according to our watchdog media.

By the way, many of the members of Congress with oversight over the oil industry own oil related stock. And yet some of them are still willing to destroy America’s oil industry.

He’s one of many federal judges across the Gulf Coast region with money in oil and gas. Several have disqualified themselves from hearing spill-related lawsuits and others have sold their holdings so they can preside over some of the 200-plus cases

Really? Which judges have “disqualified themselves”? Is there a list? Or are we supposed to take the AP’s word for it?

Josh Reichert, managing director of the Pew Environment Group, said the ruling should be rescinded if Feldman still has investments in companies that could benefit.

"If Judge Feldman has any investments in oil and gas operators in the Gulf, it represents a flagrant conflict of interest," Reichert said.

This is a great idea. All rulings from judges should be rescinded if it can be found that they even the slightest chance of benefiting either financially or otherwise in the outcome. Hardly a court ruling would remain standing.

By the way, do you think Mr. Reichert or the ‘Pew Environment Group’ might have an interest in maintaining this drilling moratorium? (Just kidding. Of course they do.)

Feldman’s ruling prohibits federal officials from enforcing the moratorium until a trial is held. He wrote: "If some drilling equipment parts are flawed, is it rational to say all are? Are all airplanes a danger because one was? All oil tankers like Exxon Valdez? All trains? All mines? That sort of thinking seems heavy-handed, and rather overbearing."

Obviously this is the twisted logic of a judge who puts his bank account ahead of the rule of law or the good of the country.

At least two major oil companies, Shell and Marathon, said they would wait to see how the appeals play out before resuming drilling

Which means that the government will try to drag out a final decision as long as possible, to hold off the resumption of drilling.

Earlier in the day, executives at a major oil conference in London warned that the moratorium would cripple world energy supplies. Steven Newman, president and CEO of Transocean, called it unnecessary and an overreaction

These oil executives do not seem to realize that it is the goal of the Obama administration to cripple world oil supplies. Or, at least, the supplies for the US.

Feldman is a native of St. Louis and former Army captain in the Judge Advocate General Corps who was appointed in May to a seven-year term on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, according to court records.

The court meets secretly to consider government requests for wiretaps in national security cases, such as those involving foreign terrorist groups.

Obviously, Judge Feldman should be removed from the FISA court as well, since his decisions involving the war on terror could definitely affect his oil stock portfolio.

A graduate of Tulane University in New Orleans with bachelor’s and law degrees, Feldman frequently jokes with lawyers before his court about his friendship with Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, known for his strict interpretation of the Constitution as written more than 200 years ago…

And Judge Feldman is a friend of the rightwing reactionary Justice Scalia?!

The AP is pulling out all of the stops.

A Reagan appointee AND on the FISA court?
Oh there is a big liberal target on this brave Judge.
Character assassination before our very eyes.
And Kagan….how is she doing? Any MSM scrutiny on her?

    *rolling eyes*

Don’t expect anything except puff pieces on Kagen’s love for softball, Birkenstocks, flannel,Subaru Outbacks, Melissa Etheridge and her cats.

As Steve pointed out, our mainstream media is tireless in quest to find dirt on anyone who deviates from Our Dear Leader’s playbook.

    (sorry for the duplicate)

  3. BannedbytheTaliban says:

Obama will simply shop for a judge to allow the ban. If he can’t find one, he will simply appoint one that will. It is the Chicago/Venezeulan way.

  4. AcornsRNutz says:

Despite this laughable and predictable story, there is, as always, a little intersting nugget. Note that the judge holds no stock in BP that they mention, which they surely would. Instead, he owns stock in the company that OWNED the rig, who so far has escaped the majority of the MSMs ire and attacks by congress. Now apart from the obvious that BP may own some of this baby, and the government is almost completely to blame for it not being cleaned up better than it has at this point, does it not stand to reason that transocean would be lambasted at least as much as the oil giants? Or does it stand to reason that transocean probably employs tons of union labor to staff and manage their rigs? This whole thing is an absolute travesty.

  5. NoNeoCommies says:

Most congressmen and senators own oil stock directly or indirectly.
LBJ’s family still may own a lot of Halliburton.

This is why judges are chosen carefully for their objectivity and protected from public whim.
It allows them to use logic and facts to decide cases instead of ideology and public sentiment.
Too bad the “chosen carefully” part has been eliminated by the left (unless you believe there should be no objectivity)

  6. jimreport says:

Neither BP, or any oil rig company was a party to this lawsuit. Judge is fine.

And if they want to get technical on BP. That rig was the only one exempt by the moratorium, because they need to drill the relief wells.

  7. proreason says:

If I were this judge, I would put my affairs in order.

  8. wardmama4 says:

And let us never forget (Associated (With Terrorists) Press to ask this inquiring question – how much money did BP and/or Big Oil donate to The Won????

What a stretch to go to attempt to smear the judge – meanwhile the DOJ/Thug Administration is out throwing around lawsuits against a law based on Federal Law, dismissing a case with a video proving the event happened as charged and oh yeah – let us not forget the un-Constitutional extortion of BP by the above mentioned Thug Administration.

Bias, I don’t see no stinkin’ bias.

  9. TadCF says:

That’s one of the problems in this country, regardless of their party affiliation–whether if be Senator Dodd or this particular judge–we have too many people in power that make rulings based on their own self interest, instead of the public good.

  10. misanthropicus says:

Selective are these MSM bouts of integrity – so quickly we learnt about Feldman’s shameful interest in helping BP, but it took months and months for MSM to reluctantly trickle out that that “judge” Walker of the 9th. Circuit who is presiding over the anti-prop 8 case in San Francisco is homosexual, with an active presence in the area’s sex clubs and wild parties.
And so is his buddy and BOSS, Alex Kozinsky, the president of the Circuit, an edifying figure on the leather-chome circuit, who was so sensitively treated by media when the public became aware about the odious photo’s his website used to sport.

Also, interesting stacking of liberal integrity in anti-prop 8 situation:
When SCOTUS learned that the two gay judges (Walker and Kozinsky) plan to influence the proceedings in this case by installing direct feed video circuits in the court room, it reprimanded them in harsh terms, never heard in a SCOTUS intervention –
Yet the MSM completely disregarded this extraordinary situation, finding that it’s multiethnic pizza shops (or other things), are the news that got to be featured on the first page –

The Judge has oil investments…yeah, so what? So does al gore.

  12. AmericanIPA says:

I love the last line: …Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, known for his strict interpretation of the Constitution as written more than 200 years ago…

Gasp! Not that tired old chestnut. What an intellectual lightweight Scalia is for respecting and upholding the Constitution. After all, it was written MORE THAN 200 YEARS AGO!!!

  13. Georgfelis says:

Not only that, it is rumored that this judge holds a multi-thousand dollar investment in a *gasp* car! Oh the horror! Burning evil petroleum products even! Manufactured out of (oh the evil of it all) metal! And plastic! I’m feeling weak, I can hardly stand it.

  14. wtd says:

Funny how the AP managed to investigate this judge’s financial interests yet did not mention at all that the current disaster serves the interests of Soros and company (see links on right sidebar: Obama Helps Soros Drill For Oil In Brazil
Soros Invests $811 Million In Brazilian Oil)

    • Rusty Shackleford says:

Nor did they display any interest in barry’s pitiful management of his own personal finances prior to his election.

  15. Mithrandir says:

OR, we could just drill in ALASKA and we wouldn’t have any deep water mistakes.

I forgot, to save the caribou, -where nobody else lives, we have to risk deep water drilling in the Gulf, and endanger the fish, fisherman, coastlines……

    Makes sense….

  16. canary says:

Obama is so happy the rig spilled.

Did Obama announce they were scraping the stimulus money for the national cross country high speed trains with their hub being in Chicago?

The Rolling Stone left out the part that the 10 minute photo op between Obama & general McChrystal was on AirForce1 flown with other boeings full of wife, Oprah, to bribe the summer Olympics to be held in polluted Chicago.

Chicago should sue Obama for not not cleaning up the pollution & violence in Chicago. He should be sued for the violence occuring now & in the future, for not stopping it, as a Senator. All the children molested & molested in the future in Chicago should sue Obama. Press criminal charges against Obama instead of the predator.
