But people seem to forget she was chosen as an age-group peer who is saying, “Please don’t do what I did—it’s not an easy thing to do.” Isn’t that how you are supposed to “teach” teens—through age-group peers who have made a mistake (drugs, truancy, pregnancy, whatever)—young people who say “Don’t be like me.”

You can bet if this had been St. Chelsea Clinton (as a teen) she’d be congratulated for her brave choice. Or even one of the Obama girls … could happen.

I still think the best place to teach junior and high school-aged students about sex and sexuality is in the home (though nowadays girls just need to know certain things at an earlier age …). I also know the family that does that is rare. We count on the government teat (no pun intended) to do something that private and that important toward the well-being and future of our kids. Another prime example of no sense of responsibility for self and family—let the gov’ment do it, and when mah teenage bay-be has one of her own, the check and cheese is in ‘da mail!

Obama budget cuts funds for “abstinence-only”

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama’s $3.55 trillion budget proposal, released on Thursday, eliminates spending for programs that teach U.S. schoolchildren sexual abstinence and shifts funds to programs aimed at reducing teenage pregnancy.

The administration’s $78.4 billion spending plan for the Department of Health and Human Services, which must be reviewed and approved by Congress, includes support for teen pregnancy prevention.

“The program will fund models that stress the importance of abstinence while providing medically accurate and age-appropriate information to youth who have already become sexually active,” the budget proposal said. …

Seriously, the hand that made these cuts clearly despises the American military, veterans, farmers, and Southerners. The defense cuts are indeed tragic. For example, without the retention bonus program, the military will experience loss of non-coms and trained and seasoned GIs, and as a result combat brigades will be understrength and military planning becomes problematic. The F-22 would have assured air superiority to American forces for years into the future. Cutting the search and rescue helicopters seems particularly harsh, as it limits our ability to recover downed pilots, wounded soldiers in Afghanistan, and sailors lost at sea. Harsh.
