Justice Alito To Obama: ‘Simply Not True!’

From the Politico:

Justice Alito mouths ‘not true’

January 27, 2010

POLITICO’s Kasie Hunt, who’s in the House chamber, reports that Justice Samuel Alito mouthed the words "not true" when President Barack Obama criticized the Supreme Court’s campaign finance decision.

"Last week, the Supreme Court reversed a century of law to open the floodgates for special interests — including foreign corporations — to spend without limit in our elections," Obama said. "Well I don’t think American elections should be bankrolled by America’s most powerful interests, or worse, by foreign entities. They should be decided by the American people, and that’s why I’m urging Democrats and Republicans to pass a bill that helps to right this wrong."

The shot of the black-robed Supreme Court justices, stone-faced, was priceless.

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) stood up behind the justices and clapped vigorously while Alito shook his head and quietly mouthed his discontent.

Schumer and Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md) are trying to find a way to legislate around the Supreme Court decision.

"All you have to do is read the dissent, the four justices who said this will defintely [sic] open the floodgates to big corporate special interests. Anybody who thinks that’s not true is out of touch with the American political process." Van Hollen said.

Van Hollen told POLITICO he expects to unveil the package in the next 10 days to two weeks.

Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) was glad the president called out the Supreme Court.

"He [Alito] deserved to be criticized, if he didn’t like it he can mouth whatever they want," Weiner said. "These Supreme Court justices sometimes forget that we live in the real world. They got a real world reminder tonight, if you make a boneheaded decision, someone’s going to call you out on it."

But one conservative legal expert took sides with Alito — at least on the substance of Obama’s comments.

“The President’s swipe at the Supreme Court was a breach of decorum, and represents the worst of Washington politics — scapegoating ‘special interest’ bogeymen for all that ails Washington in attempt to silence the diverse range of speakers in our democracy,” said Bradley A. Smith, chairman of the Center for Competitive Politics, in The Corner blog on Nationalreview.com.

Meanwhile, we have this fatwa from the left-leaning PoliFact, the fact-checking blog of the St. Petersburg Times:

Why Alito shook his head: Obama exaggerates impact of Supreme Court ruling on foreign companies

Based on our reading of the court’s opinion and interviews with campaign law experts, we find that Obama has overstated the ruling’s immediate impact on foreign companies’ ability to spend unlimited money in U.S. political campaigns. While such an outcome may be possible, the majority opinion specifically said it wasn’t addressing that point, and only further litigation would settle the matter once and for all. So we find Obama’s claim to be Barely True.

“Exaggerates,” “overstates” and “barely true” being polite-speak for ‘you lie!’

Meanwhile, who is showing more respect for the Supreme Court? Mr. Obama, who was lying about the court’s decision or Samuel Alito?

We would say Justice Alito – and by a wide margin.

Not to mention the fact that the Court’s decision was absolutely correct and long overdue.

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Alito mouths ‘that isn’t true” as Alito, Sotomayor, and others look unhappy, stunned, do not clap & stand with others when Obama announced during the State of the Union Address….
….that a week ago, “In all do deference to the separation of powers” the U.S. Supreme Court court reversed a ruling opening the “flood gates” to “special interest groups” especially to foreign corporations, expanding …

Sure…introduce legislation to make the first ammendment illegal.

Since congress has been legislating outside the bounds of the Constitution for quite some time – what check exists to stop them? Our Supreme Court is barely a speed bump.

“Obama can blast anyone and everyone, including the Supreme Court.. but the moment Alito mouths something quietly in response he becomes the subject of ridicule. He’s the one that’s insolent!”

Thanks for that PoliFact fatwa Steve, I’m shoving that down HuffPo bloggers throats – with very neutral, even friendly language, mind you, so that the moderators have no choice but to allow the comments.

  5. Petronius says:

“Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) stood up behind the justices and clapped vigorously . . . . ”

More precisely, one might add, Schumer physically leaned over Justice Alito, and leered at him, while clapping vigorously almost in Alito’s face.

Is there any public figure anywhere on the planet who is coarser, more vulgar, obnoxious, uncouth, ill-mannered, and ungentlemanly than Chuckie Schumer?

By comparison Rod Blagojevich is a model of decorum. Ditto Hugo Chavez, Kim Jong-il, and Robert Mugabe. Chuckie Schumer could take lessons from those guys in good manners and social etiquette.

Schumer is the yardstick against which the decline of the American republic may be measured. Even pioneer roughnecks like Andy Jackson, Sam Houston, and Abraham Lincoln lived by a gentleman’s code, and exhibited a sense of decency and integrity that is wholly lacking in this 21st century reptile.

One would think that Schumer, standing alone, would be reason enough for any self-respecting Liberal to abandon his ideology and allegiances.

But no, the insanity of Chuckie Schumer is the maypole around which all the other Liberal insanities revolve.

Not only is he beneath contempt, he seems to revel that he can be publicly disgusting while stuffing his pockets money blatantly stolen from the taxpayers.

And the competition aren’t exactly slackers. After all, he shares the planet with Barney Frank, Charley Rangel and Al Franken.

      That is pure poetry.

  6. proreason says:

The Moron followed up his slander of the Supreme Court’s protection of the most sacred Amendment of all by saying “I don’t think elections should be decided by special interests”.

This from the corruptocrat who refused public financing after raising more money from Wall Street than anyone had ever done, by a long shot.

There is NOTHING the snake will not say.

  7. canary says:

Obama lied saying ‘with all do deference to separation of powers’. Obama is a pompous aous.

  8. catie says:

This man went to Harvard Law, was a Constitutional Professor, yet he doesn’t understand the Constitution at all. This man is a dangerous fool & those idiots who stood up, Schmuck, et. al. are just as stupid, yet they all believe they’re all so smart. I’m fearful for our country, I truly am.

  9. MinnesotaRush says:

From a guy who spent close to 3/4’s of a billion dollars to secure the presidency (and from illegal and questionable sources) .. from a guy who carries himself and behaves with such disregard and disdain for the Constitution .. where does he get off commenting about anyone’s view of the Constitution?!?!?

This fool’s grandiosity and hypocrisy are absolutely stunning!

    • MinnesotaRush says:

“With deference to the separation of powers” .. is much like saying .. “I don’t have all the facts, but the cops acted stupidly”.

  10. joeblough says:

Every shred of evidence we have seen to date indicates that Obama is a crude, vulgar, dictatorial ignoramus, driven by nothing more inspired than consuming vanity and raw power lust.

On top of that, there is nothing of America’s core values or traditions in the man. What little he has in him of America is superficial and strictly modern — at least his better parts, the clever patter and sonorous casual presentation style. The rest is all leftist.

It’s long past time that the normal people of this country come to terms with the fact that we have something of a monster on our hands.

  11. joeblough says:

And just for the record, it is my RIGHT to give as little or as much of my money as I like to whatever politician I like, when I like and how I like. Whether I am a flat broke poor guy who can barely shake loose $10 or the CEO of a major company with $10 million at my disposal.

And if a lack-talent mediocrity like Obama doesn’t like it — and he well might not, lacking the stuff it takes to make major money on his own in the open market — he can go shove it up his envious power-lusting hind quarters.

I mean, is it a politician’s dream or what? Being able to control “campaign finance” money! Who qualifies to get it … from whom … how …

    Give me a freakin’ break!

And I’ve got no love for the bone headed Mr. McCain on this subject either.

  12. jobeth says:

Obalmy’s comment referencing the Supreme Court was not just rude…and WRONG. He was warning them that the the “king was not amused”, and to look out.

Not too long ago he promised he would “call out” those that displeased him.

Of course…we the people are calling HIM out…but he doesn’t hear/care.

Hindsight tells us that Obalmy really does keep his promises…of intimidation, retaliation and “fundamental change” to the way the country is run. From freedom and capitalism to freedom robbing restrictions to changing capitalism to socialism/fascism or even pure communistic policies.

Sadly, we can’t say he hasn’t warned us. So many people just applied what they wanted to happen over what he was actually saying. He cleverly left plenty of room for them to do that. Vague platitudes where the people could fill in the blanks as they saw them.

However the threats he promised…believe them as promised. He meant them. Going to be interesting watching how he tries to punish the SCOTUS.

    • proreason says:

His hero, FDR, tried to add 6 additional Justices, but he didn’t get away with it.

Since Obamy is a “constitutional scholar”, affirmative action grade, he could literally try anything.

But I think he will be satisfied to let the dimbulbs in congress do the dirty work so his hands, as always, will be clean.

    • jobeth says:

Actually I could see Obalmy trying to do something like that as well (add in more justices). The more complicated, the easier it is to confuse and manipulate it without actually dirtying his own hands as you say.

Anything that gets too large is easily targeted for manipulation. Look at the unions, banks, etc.

This guy purely hates America and why people can’t see it is a puzzle to me.

  13. Rip Cord says:

Funny how UPChuck Shumer JUST happen to sit Behind the Supreme Court Justices, eh? People are going to stop being polite to this Marxist Muslim Punk. The Supreme court should have walked out on this bastard in the middle of this tirade to the applause of the Republicans.
