Kerry Won’t Invite Dissidents To US Flag Raising In Cuba

Kerry says he can’t invited dissidents because of ‘protocol.’ Of course, the sad truth is Kerry and Obama don’t want the dissidents invited, because they are on the Castro’s side versus the dissidents.

From the Politico:

Protocol keeps dissidents from Havana flag-raising, John Kerry says

In interview with Telemundo, the secretary of state defends decision not to invite Cuban dissidents to official event.

… [John] Kerry is scheduled to travel to Havana for the ceremonial flag-raising following formal resumption of diplomatic relations with Cuba last month. After arrests over the weekend of as many as 100 protesters, the secretary of state came under pressure to include dissidents in the events.

Perhaps the Politico is unaware that the Castro Brothers have been arresting and beating around 100 dissidents every Sunday for a least the last six months. In fact, they are usually arrested and beaten after attending church.

On Monday, Sen. Marco Rubio called on Kerry to use his trip to “demand the freedom and rights of the Cuban people.” “During your visit, you should meet with the courageous leaders who are fighting to bring freedom to Cuba and invite them to the ceremony you will be presiding over at the new American embassy,” Rubio wrote in a letter.

Kerry told the Spanish-language network [Telemundo] that holding a meeting with dissidents separate from the flag-raising was both a matter of protocol and space restrictions. “I am going to meet with dissidents. I will have an opportunity in the course of the day to meet,” he said.

“What they are not invited to, quite openly, is the raising of the flag at the Embassy itself, because that is a government-to-government moment, with very limited space by the way, which is why we are having the reception later in the day, in which we can have a cross-section of civil society, including some dissidents.”

Of course, the sad truth is Kerry and Obama don’t want the dissidents invited, because they are on the Castro’s side versus the dissidents.

And speaking of the weekly arrests, here the report from the last one, via the Agence France Press:

Cuba arrests 90 dissidents at protest march

August 9, 2015

Havana (AFP) – With tense bilateral ties recently renewed after five decades, and top US diplomat John Kerry due in Havana in days, Cuba arrested some 90 activists on Sunday. Cuban security forces rounded up marchers — about 50 with the Ladies in White dissident group and around 40 other activists, some wearing masks with the image of US President Barack Obama, according to an AFP reporter.

And, once again, these women were arrested after attending church.

One protester slammed Obama, and said the December announcement to normalize relations between the former Cold war foes had bolstered Havana’s crackdown on dissidents.

"It’s his fault, what is happening," said former political prisoner Angel Moya, speaking about Obama. "The Cuban government has grown even bolder," he added before being detained. "That’s why we have this mask on. Because it’s his fault," said Moya, husband of Ladies in White leader Berta Soler…

When marchers who were not arrested started to leave, pro-government activists chanted "down with the pack of worms." …

Were they still talking about the Obama administration?

Cuba is the only one-party Communist-ruled nation in the Americas.

No thanks to Mr. Kerry, who never met a communist dictator he didn’t love and support. From Nicaragua’s Daniel Ortega, to Haiti’s Jean-Bertrand Aristide, to Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez.

rumor has it Fidel wants Kerry to autograph a photo of him because it was his favorite TV show,
which will premier its much anticipated 1965 season next year on Cuban Nyet Flicks.

If it were Reagan, he would have demanded visiting those dissidents in the jails they’re held in.
