The Chamber of Commerce, under the leadership of Tom Donohue, has gone from a well respected trade organization to an extremist political organization dedicated to corrupting American democracy by elevating the profits of big corporations over the well being of the citizens they serve. The most recent example of this corrupt behavior is the Chamber’s announcement that it is spending more than $100 million to defeat initiatives to protect the environment and provide affordable health care to everyone.

The Chamber is the biggest lobbying operation in the United States, spending billions of dollars on behalf of big business over the past decade to corrupt the political system. Polluters like Big Coal, Big Asbestos, and Big Oil only need call the Chamber to stop any accountability for their toxic destruction. Wall Street banks and CEOs need only make sure that they have paid their Chamber dues to ensure that they can continue to rip off the taxpayers. And killers like Big Tobacco need only form a partnership with the Chamber to ensure that they will be given immunity from lawsuits that seek accountability for the death and sickness of millions of Americans.

Tom Donohue has turned the once respected and even-handed Chamber into an extremist organization, bragging that the Chamber gutted the Clinton tobacco settlement, killed the Clinton health care plan, and scuttled previous oversight of Wall Street and the banking system. Now the Chamber is spending tens of millions on ads and lobbyists to stop health care for all, protect polluters from accountability, and shield the financial industry from government regulation.

Not only is the Chamber lobbying and advertising against the interests of Americans, it is also committing fraud and violating campaign finance laws by creating fake astroturfing front groups, with patriotic names like Citizens for a Strong Ohio, and then illegally funneling millions of anonymous dollars into those groups to attack candidates and judges who won’t do their bidding. While this corrupts the electoral system, the Chamber persists, even when it is caught, fined and required to disclose its "anonymous" donors.

We have had enough and it is time to Stop The Chamber. Therefore, we demand the following:

  • Fire Tom Donohue. Mr. Donohue is the Chamber’s corrupter in chief who single handedly turned the Chamber into a pay-to-play vehicle for right-wing causes and corporate dishonesty. As Eliot Spitzer put it, "Tom Donohue has never once found a crime that he couldn’t justify, as long as it was committed by one of his dues-paying members."
  • Drop Corporate Support for the Chamber. Over the past month, several large companies have abandoned the Chamber because of its anti-science stance on global warming. These include, Apple, Exelon Energy, Pacific Gas & Electric, Nike, and Public Service Company of New Mexico. As Nike put it, "We fundamentally disagree with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on the issue of climate change, and their recent action challenging the E.P.A. is inconsistent with our view that climate change is an issue in need of urgent action." We will target companies with exposure and boycotts if they remain with the Chamber.
  • Launch A Criminal Investigation Against The Chamber For Fraud, False Tax Filings And Campaign Finance Violations. The Chamber was found to have committed fraud and campaign finance violations in Ohio by creating a front group called Citizens for a Strong Ohio and funneling millions of dollars through it to defeat Supreme Court Justice Alice Resnick because she could not be bought. This Chamber practice is widespread and was also used against Karl Rove targeted Mississippi Justice Oliver Diaz, and in Indiana, Pennsylvania, Alabama, Texas, Louisiana, Michigan, West Virginia, and Arkansas. http://www.citizen.org/pressroom/release.cfm?ID=2062 We are asking the Department of Justice to investigate these illegal practices under RICO and to review whether the Chamber is actually a political action committee rather than a trade association.
  • Ask Congress To Investigate The Chamber. In addition to a criminal investigation, we want Congress to investigate the activities of the Chamber to include astroturfing and election manipulation as outlined by Public Citizen. http://www.citizen.org/pressroom/release.cfm?ID=2305
  • Reorganize The Chamber. The Board of the Chamber should shut down the Chamber’s lobbying arm and legal reform arm, and return to being a respected trade organization rather than a partisan PAC.
  • Speak Out Against The Chamber. We ask companies, politicians and others that do not agree with the flat earth, anti science, partisan, anti people approach of the Chamber to speak out publicly against the Chamber.

There is no word as to whether Mr. Soros is still funding Mr. Zeese’s heroic efforts. But it’s likely he is, and that this bounty — if even legit — has Mr. Soros’ liver spotted hands all over it.

Indeed, note that Mr. Zeese cites the Soros funded CREW in the ‘wanted poster’ above.

We first heard about this spittle flecked campaign a month ago, but we were reluctant to give it and the person behind it, Kevin Zeese, any further publicity.

Suffice to say that Mr. Zeese is a long time ‘legalize drugs’ advocate, who has received money from George Soros and the rest of the usual suspects.

From this 1999 article in (the commie rag) The Nation:

Although he’s still actively managing billions in investments, Soros gives major face time to the drug reform effort. "My impression of Soros: extremely smart guy," says Kevin Zeese, a leading drug reform campaigner. "He can look at situations and be very helpful in figuring out strategies that make sense."

When Zeese was a staffer at the Washington-based Drug Policy Foundation (DPF), which was, before [the Soros funded] Lindesmith, the leading pro-decriminalization advocacy group in the country, he sent Soros a grant proposal asking him to support lobbying and other advocacy activities. Soros invited Zeese to breakfast and confessed he didn’t know enough about the policy issues to feel comfortable funding advocacy per se. But if Zeese was willing to tackle projects such as needle exchange and AIDS prevention–hands-on treatment as opposed to efforts to change laws–Soros was in.

Zeese later moved on to form his own group, Common Sense for Drug Policy, which combines advocacy work with support for service-oriented programs. Last year Soros gave the organization $125,000, a quarter of its $500,000 budget.

For the record, Mr. Zeese was also an early supporter of Cindy Sheehan. He is (or was) supposedly a Ralph Nader press spokesman.

Of course this is just a cheesy publicity stunt to get attention for his tiresome efforts. It must not have gotten enough press attention for Zeese, since back on November 7, this ‘reward’ was only $100,000.

However, it does demonstrate the absolutely vicious mindset of the left.

Like their comrades the Muslim terrorists, the liberal jihadists demand submission or death.

Not only is the Chamber lobbying and advertising against the interests of Americans, it is also committing fraud and violating campaign finance laws by creating fake astroturfing front groups…

Paging David Axelrod…

Why not target anyone who dare speak against the left?

    From Fox News:

Liberal Group Puts Bounty on Head of Chamber of Commerce CEO

    By Judson Berger

Chamber of Commerce CEO Tom Donohue is a wanted man — at least according to the liberal activist group that’s put a de facto bounty on his head.

A network of liberal groups known as Velvet Revolution started an ad campaign offering $200,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the man whose trade organization has become a thorn in the side of the Obama administration and congressional Democrats.

The group is not leveling any specific charges of criminal behavior. Rather, it is casting a wide net, fishing for any whistleblowers from Donohue’s past who might come forward with allegations of wrongdoing. The campaign against the Chamber was launched in response to the group’s opposition to climate change legislation and health care reform, and its plan to spend $100 million lobbying against these and other initiatives.

On every issue, the Chamber is kind of the lead corporate advocate for the status quo,” said Kevin Zeese, a lawyer who sits on the board for Velvet Revolution, calling Donohue a “knee-jerk reactionary” and the Chamber a “right-wing extremist group.”

The Chamber of Commerce, meanwhile, decried the ad campaign and threatened possible legal action.

“The media should be following the money trail behind this scurrilous group instead of giving credence to its outrageous tactics — and we are considering legal options with the ad,” spokesman Eric Wohlschlegel said.

The Chamber has already taken a lot of heat from the White House. Top aides tried to neutralize the group earlier in the year by doing an end-run around the organization and dealing directly with members, as some big companies, like Apple, peeled off from the Chamber due to disagreements over issues like climate change.

    How nice.

A full-page print ad that looks like a “wanted” poster out of the wild West began to run in the Washington City Paper this week. It features a head shot of Donohue and offers a tip line for “insiders and whistleblowers possessing information not already in the public domain.”

The tip line is live. When FoxNews.com called, the operator asked for “criminal” information about Donohue.

Zeese said that a handful of tips have come in which the group is “pursuing.”

He said the hope is to forward any damaging information onto the Justice Department or Congress for further investigation.

Just to prove they can “Joe the Plumber” anyone.

Anyone who might speak out against the left, be warned.

(BTW, don’t you love how they quote Eliot “Ashley who?” Spitzer above?)

Ironically, HuffPo is covering an interview “Extra” gave with her on the Tiger Woods incident, which of course brings up Spitzer’s name again:

Not that the libs at HuffPo see anything wrong in Spitzer’s behavior in the first place…

Tom Donohue was the CEO of The American Trucking Association.

You know, that organization of people who own and operate those behemoths that belch stinking black odoriferous carbon laced fumes called diesel exhaust.

This looks like a good idea for congress and the president.

Well, on second thought, if all the claimants of the prize had to be paid off, it would bankrupt the world for centuries.

  5. Right of the People says:

Apple, no more Macs for me, Nike, guess I’ll have to buy Converse, Levi Strauss, darn, I really like my Levis, guess it’s Wranglers from now on even though I despise Brett Favre.
They have all joined my blacklist along with Best Buy.

    Those other companies, who cares?

  6. mr_bill says:

They had to take out an ad? What, were all the SEIU thugs too busy to pay him a “visit?” Congress too busy to threaten him with 90% punitive taxes? FCC too busy to slap a gag order on him for disseminating information that conflicts with the liberal agenda? Its beginning to feel a lot like 1775….or 1938….either way, we are headed toward a watershed moment.
