Lettuce Recall For E Coli – Obama’s Fault?

E. coli forces lettuce recall; 19 ill in 3 states

By Mary Clare Jalonick, Associated Press Writer

May 7, 2010

WASHINGTON – A food company is recalling lettuce sold in 23 states and the District of Columbia because of an E. coli outbreak that has sickened at least 19 people, three of them with life-threatening symptoms.

The Food and Drug Administration said Thursday that 12 people had been hospitalized and the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said it was looking at 10 other cases probably linked to the outbreak.

Freshway Foods of Sidney, Ohio, said it was recalling romaine lettuce sold under the Freshway and Imperial Sysco brands because of a possible link to the E. coli outbreak.

College students at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Ohio State in Columbus and Daemen College in Amherst, N.Y., are among those affected, according to local health departments in those states.

The FDA is focusing its investigation on lettuce grown in Arizona as a possible source for the outbreak, according to two people who have been briefed by the agency. Donna Rosenbaum, director of the food safety advocacy group Safe Tables Our Priority and one of those briefed, said the agency held a phone call with public health advocates Thursday.

Rosenbaum and other public health advocates have long been pushing for stronger food safety laws. The House passed a bill last year that would give the agency much more authority to police food production, but the Senate has not acted on it

The lettuce was sold in Alabama, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Has anyone checked the more ‘progressive’ media outlets to see whom they are blaming for this dangerous outbreak of e coli?

As we noted back in September 2006, the Daily Kos had no trouble whatsoever finding the ultimate culprit:

Bush Caused Spinach E. Coli. Expect More of this!!!

He did. Bush Administration officials planted ineffectual political operatives in high level positions as a reward for campaigning for the Republicans.

Bush administration officials cut the budget and the staff for the FDA, we have all heard this before, two or three years ago.

Expect more of this lack of oversight to endanger us in every area the Bush Administration has appointed idiots and Republican operatives instead of experts.

Bush cannot protect you from anything. Not Terrorism. Not Hurricanes. Not even bacteria.

Of course, back then, not a sparrow fell that was not the fault of President Bush.

But when Mr. Obama and the Democrats fail in their oversight – we have a deafening silence.

Of course, if the blame can be pinned on Arizona, they might act.

In this day and age of liberal nannyism, there is no other choice but to BAN LETTUCE! You want people in the future to get sick again?

It’s past time to over-regulate ever portion of the lettuce industry to the point that they just shouldn’t even bother growing and harvesting anymore.

With every accident, sickness, or ‘unexpected’ (AP) situation that comes up, it’s clear we can no longer go forward. Time to end oil discovery, McDonalds’ food, cigarettes, beer etc, and just live in Matrix-Like energy pods where we will be ‘protected’ from all dangers and micromanaged by lawyers looking out for us.

Might have something to do with hand washing, and not taking your bath room breaks in the field.

Where else would they take them? Where the majority of the lettuce pickers come from, they’ve never heard of plumbing.

From now on we need to blame everything that happens in the country on Barry Boy just like the libs did with Bush. Those tornadoes that killed all those people down south recently, why didn’t The Won™ prevent those? I thought with his super powers he can control the weather.

…….”The FDA is focusing its investigation on lettuce grown in Arizona……”

    How convenient!

Now I’m curious. Has there ever been an E-Coli outbreak associated with eating arrugula?

    Just wondering?

      Other than the Moron?

In 2009, the FDA released the results of a study titled, “The Riskiest Foods Regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.” Here are their results (in descending order of risk):

      1. Leafy Greens–e.g. arugula
      2. Eggs
      3. Tuna
      4. Oysters
      5. Potatoes
      6. Cheese
      7. Ice Cream
      8. Tomatoes
      9. Sprouts
      10. Berries

These foods made the list because they carried pathogens that made people sick. The top pathogens included Salmonella, Campylobacter and E. coli.

    • proreason says:

Now I have another reason to hate arugula
