Limbaugh Costs Chevy Volt Workers Their Jobs

From the George Soros front group, Think Progress:

Limbaugh Attacks Help Put Chevy Volt Workers Out Of A Job

By Brad Johnson
Mar 2, 2012

Relentless attacks on the Chevy Volt from Rush Limbaugh and Republican politicians have taken their toll, as General Motors has announced a five-week suspension in production of the range-extended electric car.

Conservative enemies of clean energy and the Obama administration seized on isolated reports Volts with battery fires, calling the cars “Obama-mandated death traps.” Limbaugh even said GM was a “corporation that’s trying to kill its customers.”

We suspect this is not what Mr. Limbaugh said. In fact, we suspect he was mocking the Left’s belief that corporations want to kill their customers.

These conspiracy-tinged partisan attacks have now cost American jobs, with 1300 workers temporarily laid off in the face of lower than expected demand for the innovative cars, even as gas prices rise.

Speaking of conspiracies, notice that even higher gas prices are failing to have the desired affect of driving people into Volts.

In January, GM CEO Dan Akerson bemoaned the effect of the barrage of ideological criticism on the popularity of the 37 – 93 mpg car:

We did not design the Volt to become a political punching bag and that’s what it’s become.

Who politicized the Chevy Volt? Wasn’t it Mr. Obama, starting back when he forced GM to continue its production against their will?

Oh, and about those attacks? After an investigation, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration determined that the Volt is just as safe as any gasoline-powered vehicle on the road.

Because we hear stories every day about how gasoline-powered cars just burst into flames as they are sitting in a garage.

By the way, if these charges is true, Mr. Limbaugh must have a tremendous amount of influence of what people do or do not buy. And his radio show must be a great place to advertise.

Pass it on.

Of course its as mileage is much lower than advertised without that little gas engine they built into their “electric” car.

You can get the same benefit from the Ford Eco-Boost at much lower price, without having to wait 10 hours for a charge.

The way the left wing media portray’s Limbaugh is beyond any sense of reality. How many times have we heard them say that he’s “only an entertainer”? And then, sometimes on the same day, possibly within the same sentence, he is the “TITULAR” head of the Rebublican party. They should make up their minds. It’s not Rush’s perfectly valid observations about the Volt that caused the low sales. It’s the free market at work. People don’t want it. Simple as that.

The other thing that strikes me funny about this is how long the lefties have been badmouthing S.U.V.s. Since they were first marketed, the left and their minions in the media have been doing their level best to stop people from buying them. And yet even after 30 years of bitchin’ and moanin’ about evil gas guzzling, demon vehicles known as SUVs I don’t see the SUV builders getting laid off. People are going to buy and drive what they want. The surest way to make Americans do something, it to tell them they can’t. And trying to force something like the Volt on America, is to assure its demise. I think it’s in our red-white-and-blue blood. If it weren’t, we’d all be driving Yugos by now.

The story doesn’t say that the UAW contract pays the workers 93% of their base pay. So this is more like an all expenses paid spring break than actually being laid off.

    37 – 93 mpg car…

    In what universe?

IMO the blame falls just as much on Michael Bay and ‘Jolt’ from the Transformer series. That reincarnation of Optimus Prime probably cost the US Taxpayer hundreds of thousands of scrilla.

After the German re-unification, I was
amused at the photo of the Trabant in
the dumpster. Looks like the Volts-wagen
    went there too. Americans, collectively,
may not be as dumb as some folks think.

The fact is Steve Rattner’s, Obama’s car czar has been leaning on GM to improve it’s stock price with cuts that will only improve profitability in the short term, while hurting the business’ product development & market share in the long term. Hell, GM could have stuck with the old management Obama crucified for doing the same thing.

Their hottest product coming on line is the ATS Cadillac; a high volume entry luxury car that could very well blow BMW’s 3 series off it’s 20 year pedestal as the segment leader.

It just goes to show you, Government Works is an oxymoron. Hell, if they can’t even run a gambling operation profitably how can they a car company, or lemonade stand even.

Speaking of Limgaugh – his apology reminds me of the apology scene in The Longest Yard

The media is all wee wee’d up with “He said he was sorry. Did you hear him? He said he was.” while completely ignoring the brunt of his statement; a damnation of society’s obsession with sex; and that now we expect government to pay for it?!!!!

  10. Russ says:

The volt is a dog. A very expensive, high maintenance dog. I know of one person who waited for it to come out, because he only had an eight-mile commute. His thought was that he would not have to buy gasoline. I wonder who will pay for the electricity to charge the battery. Who wants a car like that, anyway? The truth is, the market is not ready for a plug-in car that can only go a few miles per charge, and nothing Rush Limbaugh says will change that!

  11. Not so fast says:

If Rush Limbaugh can cost the Chevy Volt workers their jobs, then Barack Hussein Obama is going to be in BIG TROUBLE this fall! LOL
