Locals Angry About Staten Island Mosque

From New York’s Staten Island Advance:

Proposed Midland Beach mosque controversy: 2 sides remain worlds apart

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A meeting about a controversial plan for the Muslim American Society to build a mosque in Midland Beach ended the same way it began: with tension, anger and even hostility.

The two-hour affair, organized by the Midland Beach Civic Association, was intended for members of the community to ask questions about MAS and determine whether the mosque would be a welcome addition to the neighborhood. It was held last night at the Olympia Activity Center, which was filled to its 384-person capacity five minutes before the meeting was to start, and no one else was allowed in.

Instead, both sides used the opportunity to vent their frustrations; no issues were resolved and some people, shaking with anger, seemed more unsettled than when they arrived.

The controversy began when residents learned of a plan by St. Margaret Mary R.C. Church to sell its empty former convent to MAS, which planned to convert it to a mosque and community center with after-school programs for children.

Members of the community were upset that they knew nothing about the Islamic organization or its intents before the deal was made. Some insisted MAS had an affiliation with the Muslim Brotherhood, which has been questioned for terrorist practices. They were also angered that the church had agreed to make the sale without consulting the community.

During the meeting, people grilled three members of the board of the MAS Brooklyn and Staten Island chapter about their views on terrorism and religion, the first question coming from Robert Spencer of jihadwatch.org.

“Do you denounce Hamas and Hizballah?,” he asked repeatedly.

Hammous finally said, “MAS denounces any act of terror in the United States or outside.”

The Office of the Coordinator for Counterterrorism at the U.S. Department of State maintains a list of 45 foreign terrorist organizations based across the globe, including the Middle East. Hamas and Hizballah are on the list; the Muslim Brotherhood is not…

Though there were no arrests last night, there were numerous outbursts by the crowd, who often cursed and shouted at one another. While Midland Beach residents called out “liar!” and told MAS officials to “shut up,” representatives from MAS failed to answer some of the questions and their supporters in the audience often yelled out of turn…

The crowd expressed fury at the failure of any Archdiocese of New York representatives to attend the meeting, and toward Rev. Keith Fennessy, the parish pastor, who stepped down recently as the controversy grew.

Bill Owens, a resident, rallied his neighbors to continue fighting against the plans by writing letters and calling the Archdiocese to “tell them you don’t like to be lied to.”

“This is our D-Day,” he said. “We’re here to try to save our neighborhood.”

It’s D-Day all over the world.

The local Fox News affiliate has a report on this meeting here.

With the decline in people attending Catholic churches (except for Hispanics). This is something we are going to see over and over again.

Many of the churches in the UK have been sold or are up for sale now: http://www.property.org.uk/unique/ch.html

It’s just sad that it’s coming to this. According to the demographics in Europe, Muslims will not have to fire a single shot to make wholesale changes to their way of life. Muslims will be the MAJORITY there (God help us) by 2050. In Brussels, the top seven baby boys’ names recently were Mohamed, Adam, Rayan, Ayoub, Mehdi, Amine and Hamza.

This is the EU’s immigration problem that they need to deal with immediately before Western Civilization is lost.

    • jobeth says:

Right now east London and many other areas belong to the muslims. They are also showing up in picturesque villages all over the UK and making inroads in those communities’ governments.

The “councils” are full of muslims who make the rules for all their residents.

Try being a white Brit trying to get into a council house (like most Brits must do now) and I can promise you, you will have to deal with at least one muslim. They get to decide whether you get the house or if some illegal middle easterner gets to jump the line and get that house. It’s bad there. And all legal. You should see some of the houses provided for the illegals there.

The Sun (Brit News Paper) runs stories on this type of thing constantly.

And try taking a photo in London…anywhere…and unless your subject is standing against a wall, I can assure you there will be multiple muslims in it.

You’re so right, heykev. I read that Mohammad is now the most popular boy’s name in London, Copenhagen, and Oslo. The demographic conquest is on; it is too bad that Europeans have lost their marbles. Chances are that a Muslim majority is unnecessary for a cultural conquest of Europe, as the bed wetting European governments already bend backwards to placate tiny minorities of Muslims as is – booties for police dogs, hijab uniforms for female Muslims on the police force, etc. Maybe the election of Geert Wilder’s party was a good sign of a backlash, or maybe he is an exception. The U.K. is less than five percent Muslim and they already have Shariah courts approved by the state for Muslim citizens. I expect most European countries to have dual systems of law for Muslims and non-Muslims within another generation, to be followed by massive internal conflict, terror attacks, and poverty. I have heard of U.K. children at Islamic schools glorifying 9/11, so I expect the “values” of their parents to hold true. I’m only glad that I was able to see Britain once, to tour Westminster Abbey and the splendor of what was once a great country.

As you may be able to tell by my name here, I live on Staten Island. The local of that proposed mosque is odd considering the make up of that area. Sicilian and Italian ancestory for the most part. I don’t blame them for being up in arms. Wouldn’t be surprised if the place burnt down from some sort of freak lightning strike or something like that. Happens all the time over there to failing businesses.

I live a few miles north of there in a very diverse neighborhood. Lots of Albanians (thank you Bill Clinton) in my area although some have been here for generations. Also Mexicans, lots of Mexicans and Shri Lankan Catholics. The LARGEST bomb factory…I mean mosque in NYC is actually right behind my house. There is a decent size parking lot there but the neighborhood fills up on Friday afternoon when class is in session (last week was How to set a clock: The difference between AM and PM) I have FULL BURQAS living right next door (thankfully they are the only in the area).

I am the only one on my street to have an American Flag flying year round on the house (other neighborhoods nearby have flags on half or more of the houses). This island is changing quickly though. Just the other day the cops busted a dozen people in the middle of the afternoon during an out of control party in one of the nicer areas. The arrested all looked like members of MS-13.

One of the foundations of the US’s success has been immigration and assimilation.

Immigration without assimilation can work, when the immigrants want to live in the country peacefully, like Jews did in europe.

Immigration without assimilation cannot work if the immigrants mean to convert the new country into the old one by force.

Isn’t that the most obvious thing in the world.

    • jobeth says:

Enjoy your American flag…because we are getting as PC as the Brits and over there, the councils will not allow the Union Jack to fly on any of their houses…It may “offend” an immigrant!

As I said above…the councils are being taken over by the muslims. They set the rules. They are “offended” so signs of Brit patriotism can’t be allowed.

Sharia law on the other hand is “unavoidable…or so says the Arch Bishop of Canterbury.

“The Archbishop of Canterbury says the adoption of Islamic Sharia law in the UK seems “unavoidable”.

We’re next. Look at this story. It’s the Catholic church who is selling this piece of land to a group that would like to see every last Catholic and Christian dead.

      What are they thinking?

That land is sure to be prime enough that they can choose from among many to whom to sell to. Surely a few extra dollars the muslims might offer can’t be worth selling out your God to the Devil.

Umm, thirty pieces of silver, seems I’ve heard about something like this before.

    • JohnMG says:

…..” It’s the Catholic church who is selling this piece of land to a group that would like to see every last Catholic and Christian dead…..”

Just an extension of what you alluded to with the councils in the UK being taken over by muslims, jobeth.

Back in the ’60’s the laws were changed to prevent what was considered “redlining” when it came to the sale of real estate. Regardless of what a seller may wish, once an asking price has been set for the sale of property, the seller may not discriminate by refusing to sell the property as long as the potential buyer meets or exceeds the asking price and all other strictures.

I’ll admit I don’t know all the particulars behind this story, but it is not unheard of for people to make purchaces through third-party agents on their behalf, or even sale by proxy. It’s possible that is what took place here.

Nonetheless, it wouldn’t be the first time the Church did something incredibly stupid. This is what happens when lay administrators are hired to conduct the financial operations, and do so without regard to Church doctrine. Nor is it the first time that doctrine has been corrupted by or from within by radical thinking, left unchecked. As a life-long Catholic I conclude this is what happens when social policy is allowed to intrude in the true mission of teaching on matters of faith and morals. If I remember correctly, Jesus said to “render unto Caeser”, not help him with the stealing

    • Rusty Shackleford says:

Aside from the obvious characteristics of mosques being havens of hatred for the West, I just don’t want to go outside and listen to that damned call to prayer. It’s so bloody annoying that it gets on my nerves. Had to put up with it in Libya as a kid and it might add a note of “cosmopolita” to a foreign land, here in the US, it’s intrusive and obnoxious. Not welcome. Don’t want it.

    • jobeth says:

Rusty, Unfortunately I think we are all going to have to get used to hearing the call to prayer. If so I’m going to take that as a reminder to pray….for the demise of this hateful cult.

But as we are going to have the muslim call to prayer to deal with multiple times a day…We must silence our church bells.

There always seems to be some complaint from someone if a church uses it’s bell for any reason..call to worship on Sundays or as some used to do, as a time announcement. They don’t do the latter any longer.

Fits with the course of things right now.

  3. GetBackJack says:

But Prince Charles says we’re doomed if we don’t conduct the world’s business according to Islamic Principles.

And we surely trust the Prince of Wales wisdom, don’t we? He is the head of the Church of England, after all.

    • Right of the People says:

I think maybe Prince Charlie might have played polo too many times without a helmet and gotten bopped on the noggin with a mallet or two.

If we conduct our business according to their principles, does that mean I’m supposed to go into a store and blow it up if they don’t have what I want?

    • heykev says:

Get – Charles only gets the “head of the Church of England” title after his mommy dies.

But The Queen, having some sense still left in her ( a bit too much inbreeding in them Royals, but I digress) most likely will leave the throne to Charles’ eldest son William.

    • jobeth says:

I was a bit shocked (not that I’m a fan of Prince Charles) to see this statement.

Googled it and found this link. It’s true…and terribly sad. He’s sucking up to the “new” Brit, because they for the most part are in control.

Wonder how he’s going to feel when they stick a knife in his gut…and believe me, they would like nothing better.

  4. canary says:

If it’s not a done deal, then people need to put pressure on the Catholic leaders and their down right act of persecuting Christ, by selling to a mililtant anti-Christ cult. Maybe a high price was offered, but that would be selling their souls, and better to burn it to the ground.

If it’s not too late, I suggest the community come up with a 24/7 schedule of taking shifts to make it intolerable for the mosque goers.

1.such as cook pork, so the steam gets inside the muslims cavities & pores; nostrils, eyeballs, hair, …
    2.a permit for a hot-dog stand
2.have women dressed like prostitutes take turns walking.
    3.have men hug each other
    4.where Jesus t-shirts
    5.sing Christian songs non-stop
6.draw with chalk on the sidewalk

  5. Mithrandir says:

There is no more fight left in America. Death by a million paper cuts.

I you think about how screwed up everything is: culture, government, religion…..where do you place your focus to fix it all?

I suggest to say ‘yes’ to everything to increase the rate of decay as to start over again from scratch. Detroit is a good example. Let everything fail, then you can bulldoze and start over again.

  6. imnewatthis says:

Rowan Williams makes me sick. Thank God I’m not Anglican.
I’m kind of surprised there are already 8 mosques on Staten Island. I’ve noticed there are more women with headscarves around here lately too. We really need a moratorium on immigration for a while. The country is changing too rapidly.

    • Right of the People says:

For once I have to stand up and applaud the French for banning burques and head scraves in schools. It may be a small thing but it’s a victory nonetheless.

I wish we had an administration with the gonads to do the same. Of course with the boy king in office that ain’t gonna happen.
