The Lockerbie Bomber Flies To Freedom

From the UK’s Times:

Colonel Muammar Gaddafi will send his private jet to collect the Lockerbie bomber and take him home to Libya if, as expected, he is released from jail today on compassionate grounds.

Kenny MacAskill, the Scottish Justice Secretary, said that he would announce at 1pm his decision on whether Abdul Baset Ali al-Megrahi should be freed, but he gave no indication last night as to what that decision would be.

A luxury aircraft was scheduled to collect the bomber at Glasgow airport yesterday for his triumphant return to Tripoli, but the flight was cancelled at lunchtime because Mr MacAskill’s advisers were still locked in talks after intense diplomatic pressure from America to keep al-Megrahi in jail.

The prisoner, who is terminally ill with prostate cancer, called his wife, Aisha, from Greenock prison, saying that he was still uncertain about his fate. “He didn’t know when he will be released,” the mother of five told The Times. “He is happy [about the news] but he is very ill and waiting to find out what will happen to him.”

His mother said that he had called her and said that he hoped to be with her by Ramadan. Hajja Fatma, 95, told the Tripoli Post that she didn’t dare to close her front door: “I am expecting him to enter at any moment.” …

A split was emerging in America over the fate of the bomber. Some of the victims’ families indicated that they would accept him being freed on compassionate grounds provided that he was not allowed to return to Libya. Frank Duggan, president of Victims of Pan Am Flight 103, said: “If he meets the guidelines for compassionate leave and has three months or less to live and goes to a hospital bed or hospice then it should be in Scotland, not in Libya.” …

Gee, we hope he has a safe flight.

At the risk of sounding insensitive isn’t it the case that most males over a certain age have prostate cancer of some form or other? And don’t the doctors always tell all of us that we are terminal?

But skip all that. Where is the outrage about a private jet being involved?

How much is Qaddafi paying in carbon credits? Or is he an environmental terrorist?

(Thanks to BillK for the heads up.)

Sure, “humanitarian” reasons for a man who is likely to be celebrated as a hero in Libya upon his return.

The word “suck” doesn’t do justice to how much this sucks…hot news from the BBC http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/south_of_scotland/8197370.stm

    Lockerbie bomber’s release agreed

The Lockerbie bomber is to be released on compassionate grounds, the Scottish Government has announced.

Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi, 57, was jailed in 2001 for the atrocity which claimed 270 lives in 1988.

Scottish Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill revealed that the Libyan, who has terminal prostate cancer, would be allowed to return to his homeland.

The BBC understands he will be flown to Tripoli on a specially chartered plane due to leave Glasgow after 1400 BST.

The government said it had consulted widely before Mr MacAskill made his decision on applications for Megrahi’s compassionate release or his transfer to a Libyan jail.

He told a media conference on Thursday that he had rejected the application for a prisoner transfer.

However, after taking medical advice it was expected that three months was a “reasonable estimate” of the time Megrahi had left to live.

He ruled out the option of the Libyan being allowed to live in Scotland on security grounds…yeah, “security grounds”. Thanks a big bunch, you miserable, rain-sodden, heroin cooking, porridge eating, vodka swilling Scotch bastards. “Compassionate grounds”! He murdered 270 people. Yeah, he did it on Gaddafi’s orders but that doesn’t let him off the hook. I hope he really is terminal and I hope he dies soon but something tells me a miracle remission is just around the corner.

“Doctors have predicted that he will die within weeks of prostate cancer that has “spread widely”.

Aren’t a high percentage of doctors in the UK now from Muslim countries?

    Just asking.

My understanding is that ethnic Britains prefer jobs where their rewards are commensurate with the investment they have made in their eduction.

Thank God nothing like that could ever happen in Amerika.

Pure and simple travesty of justice.

  5. Helena says:

Doctors have predicted he could die within weeks? And he wants to die at home with Mommy and his wife near him? And get a hero’s welcome in Libya from his dear syphilitic leader and his two dozen machine gun toting centerfold bodyguards? Well, who wouldn’t prefer that to dying in a prison hospital ward? – But he killed 270 people and he should die and rot in jail. Humanitarian grounds my ass.

How can doctors be so sure this murderer has only three months left? Last summer Manson girl Susan Atkins was said to have six months left to live because of complications of diabetes and brain cancer, and her attorney-husband petitioned the California Department of Corrections for a compassionate release. That was denied.

He is again trying to obtain her compassionate release, a year later—she’s still ticking along! So what if she’s got only one leg … she’s had 40 more years of life than Sharon Tate, Sharon’s unborn baby, and the other (at least five) victims she was in on, butchering them with knives. She escaped the death penalty when the SC overturned the DP for a short time in the early 1970s … she’s already received whatever compassion is coming to her.

Just sayin’ … only the man upstairs knows how much time each of us has left. And three months is plenty of time to get into trouble, or plan some trouble for someone else to carry out.

Dead on. And this guy is lucky the prison guards didn’t look the other way–this monster is as bad as Jeff Dahmer.

But my theory is that they are scared of the reaction (potential rioting) of other Islamist inmates to news of this guy’s death if it were to happen in prison. I am sure the prisons over there are even worse than what we’ve got going on here in terms of radicalization of inmates.

This is certainly another victory for Muslim extremists and a moral abdication on the part of the Scottish authorities.

“There are signs that Allah will grant Islam victory in Europe – without swords, without guns, without conquests. The 50 million Muslims of Europe will turn it into a Muslim continent within a few decades.”

-Muammar Abu Minyar al-Gaddafi, leader of Libya

He appears to be right. Apparently you can target and murder nearly 300 men, women, and children for jihad and get off through “compassionate release” if you are a Muslim in the UK. Islamic colonization is working – thanks to bleeding heart multiculturalism of Western Europe.

Imagine the welcome home the murderer will receive by his fellow Islamic savages in Libya when he celebrates Ramadan.

While those 270 family members will never come home.

    • neocon mom says:

I give the Islamists credit–they’ll see this for what it is, not compassion but fear. A lack of will to carry out justice out of fear of irking the radical Muslims in the U.K. and Europe. This will embolden them accordingly.

I vividly remember that bombing. Entire families wiped out. Such a tragedy.

Lily-livered Europe is as good as gone already. There are multiculturalists who loathe their own culture and now a strengthening emergence of white supremacist, fascist (neo-nazi) types that just want to knock off all foreigners. Where is the voice of reason and moderation?

    • beautyofreason says:

      “not compassion but fear. ”

Exactly. I took a self-defense course several years ago and I learned that an attacker generally chooses the most weak and defenseless victim possible – the women who don’t make eye contact, the ones who do not look able to fight or take charge of a situation. These tendencies also apply to foreign relations – Europe is losing their culture because they have chosen to be weak.

The world is becoming less safe with liberals who apologize for our country, give money to cover Fatah’s budget and pander to Islam without considering the political aspects of that faith. The U.S. is not far off from Britain should such behavior continue.

In Libya hundreds of the religion of peace members met the released murderer at the airport to celebrate and congratulate him. Recovery from prostate cancer is around 70% for his age group, so don’t be surprised if the murderer lives out his time like the Bermuda Uighurs.

  8. proreason says:

Fox news reports Gaddafi has met the plane at the airport. Thousands in Libya are celebrating the terrorist’s return as a victory.

    Contrast if you will.

2003, Gaddafi gives up his nuclear weapons program and meekly withdraws from world affairs.
2009, Gaddafi brazenly celebrates one of the worst mass murderers in history, essentially dancing of the grave of270 Christian Europeans.

What on earth could have changed?

So was this sick bast_rd murderer released with a DROP DEAD DAY of (at the latest) 12/01/2009 or return to prison and we’ll help you.

    That’s comppassionate. Both pieces.

    More than his victims got!

I saw a pic of him running and he looked really healthy and happy. Couldn’t they have waited til he was on his death bed. Look at the surviving families who lost loved ones. Compassion for them should have been priority.
