Obama Will End ‘Irresponsible Budgets’

From his fans at the Agence France-Pressee:

Obama vows end to irresponsible budgets

WASHINGTON (AFP) — President Barack Obama vowed Saturday that irresponsible budgets were a thing of the past as he promised bold action to help the United States emerge from the current economic crisis stronger than before.

In his weekly radio address, Obama said his administration had inherited a 1.3-trillion-dollar budget deficit — and a budgeting process that he called "irresponsible as it is unsustainable."

He argued that for years Washington as well as Wall Street had used accounting tricks to conceal real costs of programs.

"These kinds of irresponsible budgets — and inexcusable practices — are now in the past," the president said. "For the first time in many years, my administration has produced a budget that represents an honest reckoning of where we are and where we need to go."

Last month, the Obama administration rolled out an audacious 3.55-trillion-dollar budget proposal that bristles with economic reforms and spending on healthcare, climate change and education.

The plan includes more than 600 billion dollars over 10 years for a "down payment" on healthcare reform and a similar annual sum for defense.

Obama is to fulfill a campaign pledge to raise taxes on Americans earning more than 250,000 dollars a year from 35 percent to just under 40 percent, yielding some two trillion dollars over ten years.

The budget forecasts a 1.750 trillion dollar deficit in fiscal 2009, but foresees that figure falling to 1.171 trillion dollars in 2010

Obama also noted that it would be impossible to bring the budget deficit down or grow the economy without tackling the skyrocketing cost of health care.,,

We are starting to wonder if there isn’t something wrong with Mr. Obama. That is, besides his obvious socialism.

Maybe he is just “irony proof,” as some are.

Let’s hope it’s just that, and not that he is suffering from delusions.

But if Mr. Obama really believes that government implemented universal health care is going to somehow reduce the deficit, than it sounds like it is more of the latter.

Of course there is method in his madness, and it is revealed when he lets the mask slip – as he even has done again today.

For as even the Associated Press notes:

Obama: Crisis is time of `great opportunity’

By BEN FELLER
Saturday, March 7, 2009

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama on Saturday challenged his country to see its hard times as a chance to "discover great opportunity in the midst of great crisis."

"That is what we can do and must do today. And I am absolutely confident that is what we will do," Obama said in his weekly radio and video address, taped a day earlier at the White House…

That certainly what he and his administration are doing.

Discovering “great opportunity in the midst of great crisis.”

A crisis they seem hellbent to make greater.

I didn’t realize that people making over $250K were being taxed so much. They are losing almost 50% of their money to taxes. That is just crazy. I fear that soon all those people are gonna leave the US, then what is Pres. Obama gonna do to get the money back for his $1T stimulus package?

    • Melly says:

Honestly $250,000 is not alot of money relatively speaking, especially if you are a business.

    • oldswimcoach says:

The Laffer (sp?) curve demonstrated that the most efficient tax rate is between 32% and 36% – I am assuming the 4% delta is a margin of error, but don’t know for certain.

Basically, above 36% and people start to do things with their money to hide income, stop earning, change tax strategies or do tax exempt investing (i.e. it effects economic behavior in a way that eliminates production/productivity in the market). Below 32% and the government is leaving money on the table if you intend to maximize tax receipts.

While moving the tax rate to 40% is not significantly above the 36% rate, the net effect statistically will be losses to the treasury receipts rather than increases; probably significantly lower than current receipts.

    • proreason says:

coach, it will really be above 39.6%.

deductions will be phased out by income level, which adds another couple of % points relative to today.

But at a higher level, the debate about a few % points is irrelevant.

Cap and Trade, and the other new user fees and other shyster tricks will raise everybody’s taxes by huge amounts, and will, of course, hit people in the lowest brackets the most %’wise.

Businessmen will be turned into tax collectors.

Today, government consumes 20-22% of the GDP. It will move to 40% quickly.

The money has to come from the people. Call it cap and trade. Call it candy. Call it nirvana. Call it ecstacy. It will still be taxes to feed the government sow. The same sow that creates nothing and adds nothing to anybody’s standard of living.

Except, of course, for The Moron and his handlers, our commissars.

    • TNpatriot says:

Don’t forget the extra 6.2% they will be taxing when they enact the law to continue the FICA tax on people making over 250k. It was one of his campaign promises.

The way things are going they may just get rid of the FICA limit all together. It is currently at 106,500 if I remember correctly.

    • canary says:

That’s because he lied during that big speech that was on tv, where he figured people who don’t read his flip flopping might catch it on tv. I heard an expert saying really wealthy person will be taxed 60% of their earnings. One opinion was 75% of their earnings. I don’t think anyone knows what’s going on. Certainly not dumbo obamo.
Dumbo Obamo hasn’t known crisis, so alot of gall to tell people it’s a great oppurtunity. I hope he keeps saying stupid stuff. I can’t watch this vidio. puke.

    • TwilightZoned says:

“Basically, above 36% and people start to do things with their money to hide income…”

Well, this certainly explains why our government officials aren’t paying their taxes.

  2. curvyred says:

“Restore availability of loans available to families and businesses, not just banks?”

    What?

Despite history demonstrating that the longer you extend unemployment, the longer people stay unemployed, ay ya ya is there any hope?

  3. Rusty Shackleford says:

Boy, I sure am glad that he, the ONE, the CHOSEN, the ONLY, the *%$#@ messiah FINALLY is putting an end to irresponsible budgets. It’s a good thing, Barry….that you did….yeah. You who are so familiar with what the word “responsibility” means.

So what, exactly is your idea of a “responsible” budget? Buying a bazillion windmills? Having billions thrown at bio-diesel? Or, hacking the military budget so that we have to go back to pitchforks and torches?

My open letter to HIs Majesty would start something like this:

Oh you ********ing moron. You have ***** me off and go ******* yourself and the horse you rode in on.

Whereupon it would be thrown away, of course. But then, anything that anyone says to this megalomaniac that doesn’t chime in perfect harmony with his off-the-wall, dancing-on-the-ceiling over-the-top MISmanagement of EVERYTHING would get tossed out.

I rue the day when schoolkids, if there are any schoolkids left in the conventional sense, ask their teacher, “What did money look like. I mean…what was it made of? Could you carry it around and stuff? And could anyone have it back then or just the government like now?”

This guy, oh……this big steaming pile of a president and his collective Borg players….

    Arrogant
    Conceited
    Fool
    Narcissist
    Megalomaniac
    Ignorant
    Opportunist

  4. DGA says:

“Obama is to fulfill a campaign pledge to raise taxes on Americans earning more than 250,000 dollars a year from 35 percent to just under 40 percent, yielding some two trillion dollars over ten years.”

As has been said- a lot of these people earning this kind of money are small business owners, you know, those that aren’t content to just sit in front of the TV and do nothing for themselves, those that like to take the odd risk with everything they own and go out on a limb…. a lot of these incomes are corporate driven. Most corporations try to keep a profit margin of 12 percent. Now, when you increase their tax burden by 5 percent, they aren’t likely to just drop that profit margin to 7 percent are they? Pretty stupid thing to do, to risk your business like that, for any hiccup that comes alond and you can suddenly be on a losing end of the deal. Especially in times like these that the democraps have foistered on us. No, they will pass these taxes along to the very stupid voting bloc that brought them change and hope.

    • curvyred says:

Which in turn will raise costs across the board for the rest of us. Higher cost of goods, higher gasoline costs (when he takes away the oil company tax breaks), higher energy costs when the cap and trade goes into effect.

    • oldswimcoach says:

The tax increase will result in a net loss of government revenue. I wish these idiots had some fundemental concept of economics!

    • curvyred says:

      OldSwimCoach: apparently they don’t.

They don’t seem to realize that the economy fits together like a puzzle and when you exact higher taxes on one segment it has a profound effect on all.

I have heard that many small businesses will be cutting back, so in addition to decreased tax revenue you will have greater job losses as well.

  5. Melly says:

This dude just luvs to use the word “reckoning.” Not a word I’ve heard a President use in my lifetime. Why reckoning? Why not “accountability” etc.? He is using the nautical definition of reckoning when you read his statements it seems.

Makes me wonder if Bill Ayers isn’t writing some of his speeches or at least editing them.

As you know Billy Ayers was a merchant marine and he flowered “Audacity of Hope” with many nautical terms.

Hence, one of the definitions of reckoning is:

The calculation of a ship’s position, either from astronomical observations, or from the record of the courses steered and distances sailed as shown by compass and log, — in the latter case called dead reckoning (see under Dead); — also used for dead reckoning in contradistinction to observation.

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  6. proreason says:

His audience is not intelligent people.

    So he lies with impunity.

    For now.

    • DGA says:

For now is right. I remember saying a little after 9/11 happened, wondering how long it would be until the general public forgot what it was all about, lost that patriotic drive that everyone seemed to have. Oh, about one year and it was waning big time. Same will go for this a**hole, the people will only know that they can’t afford even basic stuff, and seemed to be tied up in red tape to just even go to the doctor for a simple flu shot, and all they will know is that ‘the one’ is in charge, and they hate the very breath he breathes. Oh how I long for that day. Coming soon, not soon enough.

  7. jrmcdonald says:

It is irresponsible to spend more than you have, you freakin idiot.

  8. MinnesotaRush says:

    Boy!

So much cleaning up and fixing up from a fella whose done absolutely nothing in the “real world” but go door to door as a community agitator, who can’t stand solidly by his decisions/opinions – witnessed by typically voting “present” in his brief political career, and who was mentored by looney radicals and groomed in Chicago politics.

Aren’t we, and the world, so terrifically lucky that this dude FINALLY showed up!?!?!? So he thinks!

Isn’t it great that he is finally on the job and will correct ALL the ineptness, ALL the irresponsible and inexcusable practices, ALL the shady and shoddy accounting and mismanagement that went on in both the private and public sectors, etc, etc, etc – ad in finitum and ad nauseam!!! Whatta guy!!!

Gosh! When’s he gonna find time to cure cancer?!?! .. feed the starving?!?! (oh yeah .. his wife did that the other day in between photo’s).

His credentials and experience show no indication that he has any meaningful background or knowledge in anything he’s proposing to “fix” (but most of us knew that); but now his ACTIONS are cementing the fact that this dude’s connections to reality are very suspect.

His active presidency and administration is much like kids playing office and creating “their world”. Wasn’t it he (or his wife – or both) that said ” the world as it is and the world as it should be”? Prudent, thoughtful, orderly, and responsible action/behavior are severely lacking with this guy and his “team”.

But his crap resonated/resonates with the idealistic, irresponsible, selfish, self centered, naive and uninformed masses who are his electorate and followers. All of this is so reminiscent of the novel, “Lord of the Flies”.

Long ago in our country’s history, landowners were the only voters. It was felt that only those with a vested financial stake in the country should vote.

Imagine for a moment, that everybody gets to vote. Once. People who truly PAY taxes get 2 votes. Those in the uniformed services of the United States get 3. S’pose the circumstances in our Country would be much different today??? I’d bet my life on it!!!

  9. thetimeisright says:

Well i listened to that dribble of a speech or i should say teleprompter script. This fool has no heart an hates America just like his leftist loons.

1776 Was the signing of the Declaration of Independence 233 years ago an it has took this clown just over 40 days to wipe out the greatest country in the world.

I will say this he was not lying about change..This is change we dont need EVER !!!

    • caligirl9 says:

Because I refuse to watch, is this weekly highly scripted propaganda spewed by TCO really called “YOUR Weekly Address?”

Reminds me of the little weekly newsletter we used to get in school called “My Weekly Reader.”

      Yes I am that old.

    • dulcimergrl says:

Cali, I remember Your Weekly Reader too. And this weekly pile of poo-poo from fearless leader is definitely NOT “MY weekly address”. I can’t stomach watching or listening to him. Not even a little.

    • caligirl9 says:

My method of survival during the next four years is to avoid mainstream media and any video of TCO. I don’t want to be able to recognize his voice. I don’t want to remember his kids’ names. (Malaria and the other one?) I don’t care what designer ‘ma belle wears. I want to pretend the next four years didn’t happen. Kind of like Carter’s time in office, I was busy going to college so can’t remember a lot of the bullshit that went on.

Besides, wouldn’t it have been more honest to call it “Your Weekly Address by Comrade B. Hussein Obama?”

    • proreason says:

I’m proud to say I don’t know the little darlings’ names.

Didn’t know about the rock he bought for Thunderbutt until I read it here a few minutes ago. And I have no idea what the boss woman is doing other than I’m sure she is still telling him when to pee.

Don’t know what he eats. Don’t know what he smokes. Don’t know what he’s overdrinking nowadays. Don’t know what he likes to do, other than force his dorm-room fantasies on the country.

And if he would stop zapping wealth at the clip of several hundred million a day, I would be delighted to ignore him completely for 3 more years 10 months and 14 days.

  10. canary says:

dumbo obamo said his package spending “”includes 2 trillion dollars in defecit reducing, while making historical investments in American future””

yep, wonder what heel clicking “high obama” will rename our country? Obamica?

dumbo obamo said “”Of course like every family going through hard times, our country in must make tough choices in order to pay things. We can not waste money on the things we don’t need””

yep, this from high obama who spent 12%!!!! of his first years salary as president, when he only worked a couple of days of the year, on a 30,000 plus ring for the first lady. So, after he earned only 2000 dollars he spent 30,000 dollars on bling. Also, I was explaining to my son, all his telling the country, how bad things are, that less people are spending. Also, the companies not hurting know they can go up on prices, because people will expect it. He talks about creating jobs, when he is telling people not to buy anything they don’t need????? Who the hell, needs a president that spends 1 million dollars on valnetines day to eat for free. His wife spends thousands and thousands to feed a thousand dollars worth of food to the poor. God help us.!!!!!! He doesn’t even have to pay for his tequila straight up, anymore.

correction: he bought the 30 grand ring as soon as he won, before he even worked one day.

    • Rusty Shackleford says:

Hey, I just reduced my household debt too! I just signed the loan papers for $100,000! Now I can use that money to party, buy stuff I want, like that really big TV and the fanciest cellphone I can find, some REALLY cool tires for the car..when I get a car….and lots of other stuff I’ve “needed” for a long time.

See how stupid that sounds? But when the government does it; Specifically THIS government, it all makes perfect sense to idiots who otherwise would try to pay off their Visa’s with their Mastercards.

This is the great money-burning scheme that has resulted. You don’t get out of debt….with more debt. Or am I missing sumpin’ here?

    • proreason says:

“correction: he bought the 30 grand ring as soon as he won, before he even worked one day.”

I keep trying to remember that old expression, haven’t heard it for years. nuthin rich, nearer rich, figger rich. Something like that.

Haven’t heard it for years. I don’t think you can’t say it anymore. . But it sure seems like it fits Obamy to a tee.

And now…..it fits the country to a tee.

    • canary says:

Pro Reason, I never heard that saying so I googled and got some rapper
Ja Rule. Not sure that song is among these
      http://www.mp3lyrics.org/j/ja-rule/killem-all/

  11. U NO HOO says:

Ethics and morals aside, Obama is going to start to pay for embryonic stem cell research.

    And cut the deficit?

    • canary says:

Nope, we are gonna pay for all the money that’s going to 3rd world countries to have free abortions, so we can test more.
The women in America will set up unborn baby mills, and have one after another. Slick Willy was the one that came up with partial abortion before ooeeoObama. Slick Willy wants to impregnant the mothers the old fashion way, but his embroys won’t get much. They want genius, healthy, vibrant men, cause they want Grade AAA sperm to make premium stem cells. Murder for money. oeeo Obama will be known to come up with the miracle to stay young forever. Then Obama will quit the presidency and become very rich.
The bible says something about the anti-Christ will be able to perform all these miracles and stuff. Adult stem cells can grow bones. But, like turn-coat Michael J. Fox said on a talk show, he doesn’t want old cranky stem cells. He was trying to be funny I guess. Shame shame.

  12. w3bgrrl says:

Oh I get it now! We aren’t spending more money, we’re just accounting more accurately.

    • proreason says:

Now we know why Wall Street is throwing it’s little hissy fit.

Bushhitler hid for 8 years that the country is bankrupt.

But thanks to Honest Obe, now we know.

And since we’re really really bankrupt, why not spend a few trillion more on things we really really need.

Makes sense. After all, it hardly costs anything to run the printing presses.

  13. David says:

He is going to have a whole new deffinition of “responsible” when there are effigies of Obama burning in every town.

  14. Rusty Shackleford says:

“He argued that for years Washington as well as Wall Street had used accounting tricks to conceal real costs of programs.”

    And he knows this…….how?

  15. UndercoverInLA says:

Remember how before 9/11 no one could have fathomed the idea of flying planes full of innocent people in to high-rise buildings? Well, up until now, no one could fathomed the idea of a sitting US Pesident INTENTIONALLY causing the nation’s economy to collapse….His economic actions since taking office are not the result of mismanagement, incompetence, stupidity or inexperience — HE WANTS THE ECONOMY TO COLLAPSE. DON’T YOU GET IT? The more people who are on their knees, the fewer who can stand and fight. Kind of hard to resist the government when we are standing in their soup lines to get enough food in our bellies to survive another day. THIS IS ALL PART OF THE PLAN. WAKE UP AMERICA!!

    • canary says:

9/11 didn’t surprise me. Clinton did nothing about Saddam Hussien financing and aiding in the OKC bombing of the Federal Building. Those pilots were training in Norman, OK. I figured Bush had to know. I figured most politians knew. But, it was the CIA that tripped up the FBI in preventing 9/11. I think it was the falling of the buildings that was so shocking.

Now with the Mexican cartel are “chopping heads off people on the Jaurez border”, aside the kidnapping of a group of little girls. Jose Padilla finally got 17 years for a dirty bomb, makes ya wonder.

I saw on Fox, where Mexico officials are blaming America!! for buying marijuana. I guess Mexico forget’s they allowed them to come over, and allowed Mexicans to come over, making more of a demand for marijuana, and helping the cartel get over here. Why does everyone hate America.
I think Mexicans in this country should go clean up the borders. Pay them to build the border, but it’s too late. Now it’s our military at Ft. Bliss that are going to get involved.
Even McCain and Bush failed on the immigration problem.
Now we here of an anti-government militia arrested. Maybe they have good intentions in case of a terrorist attack.
Nothing was said about them being white supremists.
But, Clinton wanted to go after militias. And if Obama’s plan communism, then he is going to finish what Clinton attempted to do. I saw a communist party leader on Glen Beck. He literally reached over and picked up Beck’s drink and took a sip. They were arguing, and my tv blinked off. And I freaked cause it never happens. Just venting

  16. canary says:

I freaked cause Beck was really hammering that Obama was striving towards communism, and thought maybe the government cut Fox off. lol.

  17. VMAN says:

All of Obama’s lies are bad enough but I think the thing that is most frightening in the article above is this line from the AP article “President Barack Obama on Saturday challenged his country ” The one word I am talking about is “his”. This is NOT “his” country and if “he” thinks it is “he” is going to have one hell of a fight on “his” hands. “He” is a public servant (I guess that would be considered a racist statement) and “he” needs to know his place (oops another racist statement)

  18. 12 Gauge Rage says:

So then his solution to end irresponsible budgets is to tax the hell out of us. The handwriting is on the wall. Why work hard to get ahead if all they’re going to do is fiscally penalize you for your efforts. Without sounding too preachy, if ten percent is good enough for God, why isn’t it good enough for Uncle Sam?

    • Liberals Demise says:

Does the seperation of church and state ring a bell, 12 GR?
      I’m being sarcastic of course!!

  19. proreason says:

Thomas Sowell said this in 2007….

“When I see the worsening degeneracy in our politicians, our media, our educators, and our intelligentsia, I can’t help wondering if the day may yet come when the only thing that can save this country is a military coup.”
