Low IQ & Conservative Beliefs Linked to Prejudice

By Stephanie Pappas

There’s no gentle way to put it: People who give in to racism and prejudice may simply be dumb, according to a new study that is bound to stir public controversy.

Or, at least that is what the people behind this ‘new study’ hope.

The research finds that children with low intelligence are more likely to hold prejudiced attitudes as adults. These findings point to a vicious cycle, according to lead researcher Gordon Hodson, a psychologist at Brock University in Ontario. Low-intelligence adults tend to gravitate toward socially conservative ideologies, the study found. Those ideologies, in turn, stress hierarchy and resistance to change, attitudes that can contribute to prejudice, Hodson wrote in an email to LiveScience.

And here we thought that using IQ scores was in itself considered to be racist nowadays? But apparently that is not the case, as long as you can use IQ to bash and mock conservatives.

"Prejudice is extremely complex and multifaceted, making it critical that any factors contributing to bias are uncovered and understood," he said…

Luckily Mr. Hodson is entirely free from the taint of prejudice.

Polling data and social and political science research do show that prejudice is more common in those who hold right-wing ideals that those of other political persuasions, [Brian Nosek, a social and cognitive psychologist at the University of Virginia who was not involved in the study] told LiveScience.

Well, if polls show this, then it must be true. In fact, all real science is done via polls.

"The unique contribution here is trying to make some progress on the most challenging aspect of this," Nosek said, referring to the new study. "It’s not that a relationship like that exists, but why it exists."

In other words, there is a ‘scientific consensus’ that right wingers have low IQs. It is ‘settled science.’ They are now just trying to find out why they are so stupid and bigoted.

Earlier studies have found links between low levels of education and higher levels of prejudice, Hodson said, so studying intelligence seemed a logical next step. The researchers turned to two studies of citizens in the United Kingdom

So this study is just based on somebody else’s studies? And studies in the UK? Are there even any social conservatives left in the UK?

Social conservatives were defined as people who agreed with a laundry list of statements such as "Family life suffers if mum is working full-time," and "Schools should teach children to obey authority."

What Nazis!

Attitudes toward other races were captured by measuring agreement with statements such as "I wouldn’t mind working with people from other races." (These questions measured overt prejudiced attitudes, but most people, no matter how egalitarian, do hold unconscious racial biases; Hodson’s work can’t speak to this "underground" racism.)

What a question. Talk about being damned if you do, and damned if you don’t.

It couldn’t be that ‘more intelligent’ people are just better at masking their racial bigotry?

As suspected, low intelligence in childhood corresponded with racism in adulthood. But the factor that explained the relationship between these two variables was political: When researchers included social conservatism in the analysis, those ideologies accounted for much of the link between brains and bias

And luckily these researchers aren’t biased at all.

People with lower cognitive abilities also had less contact with people of other races

Which has got to be news to the Japanese, who live in one of the most racially homogenous nations on the planet.

Hodson was quick to note that the despite the link found between low intelligence and social conservatism, the researchers aren’t implying that all liberals are brilliant and all conservatives stupid

Whew. We were worried for a minute.

"There are multiple examples of very bright conservatives and not-so-bright liberals, and many examples of very principled conservatives and very intolerant liberals," Hodson said

How kind of him.

Imagine the results of a study of inner-city minorities, public employees, and ‘progressives’. Average IQ would be considerably lower than warm tap water, but probably higher than room temperature. The actual level of education – determined by a simple 50 question, multiple-choice test – would be ninth-grade.

Progressive/Liberals today are like the screwball robot army of North Korea, strutting and preening in Pyongyang’s Victory Square. They take orders from the Obummer mother ship, regurgitate the Saul Alinsky game plan, and the rantings of post-modern Marxism/Keynesianism.

Anyone have a more accurate Dennis Prager quote re: studies? It goes something along lines of “Studies prove one of two things, either a bias held by the person doing the study or to tell us something we already know”

  4. proreason says:

Now I understand why liberals are such racists.

    • JohnMG says:

I arrived at the same conclusion. But which came first…….chicken or egg?

First, one has to admit to such a thing as black racism. Thus, if the study truly has any validity it would follow that since school drop-outs are predominately black, and since “(P)eople with lower cognitive abilities also had less contact with people of other races”, and that “studies have found links between low levels of education and higher levels of prejudice”, then it would necessarily follow that…….”children with low intelligence are more likely to hold prejudiced attitudes as adults.”

In other words…….Holder’s people. Why is it I never confuse these types with those who…..”hold right-wing ideals that (sic) those of other political persuasions.

Ergo, all blacks of low levels of intelligence are racists………and conservative.

Or, it could be that this entire study is pure bullshit.

Government money can buy any academic opinion you want, and it’s worth is exactly inverse to both logic and value.

IOW – Mr. Hodson admits prima faciae that he is a suckling pig for taxpayer dollars, and the Federal Establishment his sow.

  6. untrainable says:

See y’all. We’re just dumb. And if we’d just listen to those smart folks in the DNC, we’d be better off all ’round. And since libs are all so much smarter than we is, I expect their leader is, WOW… REEEEEAL SMART. Here she is….
(sarcastic drumroll) Ta-dah….. Debbie Wasserman Schultz???

O….K… never mind. I’d rather be stoopid.

More liberals may have gone to college, but that doesn’t have anything to do with intelligence. It just means that their low IQs, their racism, and their intolerance of others are overlooked because they have a degree from a liberal re-education camp. A degree which required at least 4 years of suffocating indoctrination in the ways of liberal self delusion. Those that emerge from those institutions and are still conservative are, in the eyes of the liberal world, failures. For “failures”, read stupid. In the real world, they are the exceptional.

Apparently Conservatives smart enough to invent their own secret racial code to work eachother up like Pavlov’s dogs though! Those brilliant academics have spent oodles studying that phenomenon too.

Mr. Hodson sure is a productive little propagandist. It would be interesting to see him bring his superior intellect out into the private sector and compete with us conservative rubes.

  8. Dupree says:

The crypto-Marxists use junk-science articles like this to give Liberals a “club” to keep the useful idiots in line with. The self-esteem movement created a population that can not deal with personal criticism. These articles serve as the backup for the verbal insults and slander used to belittle any of the useful idiots who start to question the agenda.

  10. Anonymoose says:

    I love these gems:

…”Socially conservative ideologies tend to offer structure and order,” Hodson said, explaining why these beliefs might draw those with low intelligence. “…..

…..They found that what applies to racism may also apply to homophobia. People who were poorer at abstract reasoning were more likely to exhibit prejudice against gays……

…..For example, he said, many anti-prejudice programs encourage participants to see things from another group’s point of view. That mental exercise may be too taxing for people of low IQ……

It all just neatly dovetails together into their ideology, doesn’t it?

    Here’s how it works:

Question: Would you like working with people of different races?

Liberal answer: Of course! Yes! The last thing I would be is biased, and all those redneck conservatives don’t count, I want to work with people who all agree with me. Diversity! Booyah! Yes! Yes!

Conservative answer: Well we got the prejudices people have with each other, language and cultural barriers, and just how many headaches do you need in a job? I’d like to work where everyone is on the same page. Umm….well, it’s only yes or no so I guess no.

    Conclusion: Conservatives are raging racists.

I can’t find this “study” anywhere, and this:

“The researchers turned to two studies of citizens in the United Kingdom, one that has followed babies since their births in March 1958, and another that did the same for babies born in April 1970. The children in the studies had their intelligence assessed at age 10 or 11; as adults ages 30 or 33, their levels of social conservatism and racism were measured.”

OK, so they didn’t even test these people themselves but used earlier research from—well it could be 1988 up to 2003.

Small sample groups, selecting who’s conservative or liberal by their own criteria, questions that are how people see themselves not how they act. All this is garbage, intended to confirm an already determined outcome.

  11. Mithrandir says:

(I won’t say how) I was able to find the home addresses to prominent liberals in my city, most were unlisted numbers. Media types, politicians, university president and others in high position. My city also has a fairly large racial component, also called “diversity.”
The liberals don’t live anywhere near black people. Golf courses, gated communities, expensive townhouses—the works! One person who wrote an article about the necessity of diversity lives 11 miles from the nearest racial area, secluded from the very people he was writing about. –Do your own research in your city.

People with lower cognitive abilities also had less contact with people of other races…

Black-only colleges, homogenous racial areas in cities, Chinatown, liberal enclaves. . . .

    • Anonymoose says:

Of course; I break all liberals down into three groups:

The ones who really–which is very few. They had a friend or relative that was in some way a minority and they saw events as being at the fault of conservatives, so they take it up as their crusade/passion/mission.

The “Get out of Hell Free Card.” This the majority; Liberalism has been very effective at casting guilt at what we do “wrong,” where we “judge,” and having any “bias” of any kind, except against the enemy. So they go with the flow, say they have no prejudices against anyone, all because they think it makes them a good person. However, ask them to stand for something and they give lip service but back down as they don’t want to rock the boat.

Lastly is The Rager. These are the ones who scream and rant and go to rallies and post non-stop online. They’re few in number but make up for it by being so loud and arrogant. They also usually have BIG personal problems, the ones I’ve known all have trails behind them of alcohol and drug use, and they take on these causes to fill an empty hole in their life. They may be incompetent screwups but they think being on the side of righteous justice vindicates them. They also are the ones who flip out to find their child is gay, or going to marry someone black. Their rage comes from a guilt they’re trying to seek an absolution for, and when their prejudices truly comes out it’s not pretty.

  14. bobdog says:

If Liberals were so damned smart, one would think they would have at least a smattering of knowledge about economics.

    S’all I’m sayin’.
