Manchin ‘Didn’t Understand’ Obama-Care

From the Politico:

Manchin says he didn’t understand key health care details

The Democratic Senate candidate from West Virginia, Gov. Joe Manchin, says he didn’t understand key details of the health care reform legislation when he publicly endorsed it in March — an endorsement he has since withdrawn.

"Reaching as far as they did in the — in the weeds of the bill that we didn’t know about, no one else knew about until it came out — knowing that, I would not have supported that or voted for that at that time," Manchin said on "Fox News Sunday." …

"The health care reform is far overreaching in areas that I don’t agree with — the 1099 part of that, the mandates. Also, the firewall’s not strong enough for abortions. I’m pro-life. And we’re just a different type of Democrat here in West Virginia," Manchin said

While some provisions, such as the new 1099 rules, were not terribly well-publicized at the time, the individual mandate was a central part of the Democrats’ health reform legislation for months before it passed. Manchin never quite said he didn’t know the mandate was in the bill, but he said again that he would have voted against the bill if he knew what he knows now.

"Knowing the existence as far as how reaching it had been, as far as — and onerous — I would have" voted against it, he said.

"And I think many people didn’t know about the bill. It ends up, what, 2,000 pages or more," he added

And god knows there was no reporting on the contents of the bill at the time. Nor any discussion of its onerous far reaching.

Welcome to the new wandering opinion method pioneered by the likes of John Kerry (who served in Vietnam, by the way) and Hitlery Clinton….

“I was for it before I was against it”.

Unreal. Absolutely pathetic. “Gawrsh….if I’d’a known whut was innit, Ah never woulda voted fer it.”

…And now it’s law. You flaming turd.

“Always easier to say you’re sorry than it is to get permission in the first place”? Or are you just a party hack who does the bidding of the party and then runs interference and then tries to do damage control?

Manchin appeared on Fox News Sunday this weekend. He reminded me of Kerry.

That he could blindly vote for legislation is worth more than just a dismissal this November.

  2. Mithrandir says:

What he really meant to say:

I was too lazy and stupid to read this bill!

I blindly believe anything and everything they tell me, it’s not my fault!

Pelosi said we are not to know what’s in a bill until after we pass it. So far that has worked out for all of us.

I like to overreact to things AFTER the fact, rather than courageously opposing it when I should.”

I prefer my 20/20 hindsight, rather than my nutless foresight.”

Don’t blame me, I am a Democrat, not a Pelosi Democrat!

  3. Tater Salad says:

Don’t worry Joe because the rest of the United States doesn’t understand it either. The Democrats understand it enough because they are staying away from it during these campaign weeks before the voting though. I’m wondering Joe, do you still support what the Democratic Congress did during the healthcare debate when they “closed the doors of transparency” to the public and then crammed this moronic healthcare un-reform down our throats?

  4. Adam Moreira says:

And that is why the Lord struck Robert Byrd down dead – for ramming something America didn’t want down its throat. Let that serve as a warning (proverbially speaking).

Manchin is a graduate of the McCain “School of the Election Year Transformation”.

  6. proreason says:

They need to develop a simple web-based computer program that asks a user what his or her top 5 issues and positions are, and then Manchin or another Democrat can agree with that user 100%.

That would save them a lot of money.

  7. BigOil says:

We believe you Joe. There were 60 Democrat Senators that voted in lockstep to block a filibuster of this 2500 page monstrosity – yet you would have stood as the lone principled Democrat that would have killed the bill. Right…your biggest challenge would have been securing a bigger payoff than either the Cornhusker Kickback or the Louisiana Purchase.

Democrats talk like Ronald Reagan at home and act like Fidel Castro when in DC.

    • Adam Moreira says:

Post-midterm though, one will probably find out that threats were made (of physical harm) and arms broken to get those 60 votes before Scott Brown could be sworn in.

  8. untrainable says:

Here’s a crazy thought. If you don’t know what’s in a bill… DON’T VOTE FOR IT… MORON. Ignorance is no excuse, unless you’re name is Timmy, and you forgot to pay your taxes because your dog ate your copy of turbo tax.

  9. Liberals Demise says:

I believe you……..now pull the trigger!

  10. canary says:

Manchin is lying. If he really was ignorant, than he’s only made a point of telling us he’s ignorant & incompetent. Certainly, didn’t hear him say it was “unconstitutional”.

  11. rangerrebew says:

Gee, why didn’t someone tell me an atomic bomb spreads more than 50 yards? Why didn’t someone tell me what was in the bill? Why did George Bush force me to support it though I knew something wasn’t right? Has he said “I’m sorry” for his support? No? He’s a liar.
