McCain/Graham Tell Egypt To Free MB (For Obama)

From an amused Associated Press:

Egypt bristles as US pols urge freeing prisoners

By AYA BATRAWY and MAGGIE MICHAEL | August 6, 2013

CAIRO (AP) — Two U.S. Senators came to Egypt Tuesday with a message for the country’s new military-backed leaders: Release Islamist figures as a gesture to the Muslim Brotherhood or risk making "a huge mistake."

The message from Republican Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham met with a sharp response, denounced by interim President Adly Mansour in a brief statement as "unacceptable interference in internal politics."

For crying out loud. Is there nothing these two won’t try to screw up?

The new leadership, emboldened by mass demonstrations of support, showed no sign of willingness to release Muslim Brotherhood figures whom McCain called "political prisoners" and whom the government plans to prosecute for allegedly inciting violence.

Did Mr. McCain ever say anything about Nakoula Nakoula. Or any of Mr. Mori’s other political prisoners. (Lest we forget, it was Morsi who demanded that Obama lock up Nakoula.)

As the senators made their rounds, authorities announced that two Morsi aides would be jailed and face charges of inciting violence in December when Muslim Brotherhood members attacked a sit-in by protesters outside Morsi’s office that sparked clashes, killing 10 people…

How could people in Egypt know more about the circumstances of this attack than two Senators from Washington, DC?

The McCain-Graham visit was carried out at U.S. President Barack Obama’s request —

Notice that the AP buried this detail in the seventh paragraph of their article. Still, how wonderful. Not only they are carrying Obama’s water (as usual), they are giving him cover.

[B]ut their message differed from his. For one thing, they called what happened on July 3 a coup, a word the administration avoided because it would trigger a suspension of the $1.3 billion a year in U.S. military aid to Egypt.

Let’s face it. They are rock stupid. They don’t even know the laws they write.

State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said "Our position has not changed" regarding the word "coup." ”Sen.McCain and Sen. Graham are certainly entitled to their opinions, just as any member of Congress is." …

In fact, the notorious hack, Ms. Psaki, went even further. Speaking for the Obama administration, she said: "We have determined that we do not need to make a determination” over whether or not the ousting of Mohamed Morsi in Egypt was a coup.

You see, words mean whatever they decide them mean. (Cf. recession.)

At a news conference in Cairo after meeting government officials, military leaders and members of the Brotherhood’s political wing, the senators stressed the need to free prisoners.

"It is impossible to talk with somebody who’s in jail. That is not a sustainable model that will allow transition to occur," said Graham. "The status quo is unacceptable. Something’s got to give," he said…

Echoing that sentiment, McCain said the Brotherhood must be included in Egypt’s transition…

Yes, we cannot let the Muslim Brotherhood lose control of Egypt.

But Egyptian officials were sounding increasingly annoyed at what they saw as foreign meddling.

Mustafa Hegazy, a political adviser to interim President Mansour, appeared to rebuff the international calls to release detainees, saying those in jail will be dealt with by the law "and not by politics."

"No one can impose their conditions on the future," the state-owned MENA news agency quoted him as saying…

Good for them. If only the Republican Party would take the same view.

By the way, the AP managed to leave out another minor detail that the New York Times reported:

2 Senators Visit Egypt With Threat on U.S. Aid

By David D. Kirkpatrick | August 6, 2013

CAIRO – On a visit at the request of President Obama, two Republican senators warned Egypt on Tuesday that the United States would cut off aid if the new military-appointed government failed to move rapidly toward democracy, including releasing the ousted president, Mohamed Morsi, and other leaders from his Islamist party from detention…

In other words, Obama is threatening to cut off aid to Egypt if the military doesn’t let the Muslim Brotherhood play a part in the government. Which is pretty damn telling.

It’s past time for the old and proven to be useless John McCain to have learned that you must never miss an opportunity to shut up.

Looks like we don’t need to worry anymore about the Republican Party being damaged in event of a government shut-down.

You can’t damage something that’s already dead.

And by the way, since when has stable democracy ever been a hallmark of the Muslim world? (Hint: the answer is never.)

There are two possibilities for Egypt and an Anglo-Saxon democracy is not one of them:

    (1) rule by radical Islamists characterized by brutal repression, revolutionary terrorism, and return to barbarism versus (2) secular authoritarianism that preserves some degree of order and civilization by keeping the Islamists in check.

No wonder these people hate us.

These men are idiots of a higher degree than anyone in recent history.

I have no doubt that McCain and Graham would have embraced Hitler and the Axis powers during WWII.

Wasn’t there some brainless Liberal who visited pre-WW2 Russia
and came back and stated that he had seen the future and it worked?
Looks like some believers in that still do.

Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham ,

    who’s on first?

and Fascism was the new world plan.

dictator in the twenty’s was a positive title,

and FDR s brain trust said we should used this model as the path America needs to imitate.
