McCain’s Witty Remarks At Al Smith Dinner

In case you missed it, Mr. McCain brought down the house at the annual Catholic charities Al Smith dinner last night:

Mr. McCain showed (once again) that he has a great, self-deprecating sense of humor.

Unlike a certain Messiah.

Still, we have to note that there was a tinge of inevitability in his remarks that we found a little distressing.

    What a hoot Mac was!!

It reminds me of Dole in ’96 – we need to show the “human”, non politicain side of McCain – because he eats Obama’s lunch when they face off. I enjoyed both sides, but it appeared MCain flowed naturally, while Obama seemed to deliver tentivaly each joke and punch line.

Dole was portrayed as an aging, old stogey guy and lost to Clinton. Within a month of losing, he did a brilliant SNL skit, Britney Spears Pepsi commercial (down boy…) and came out 5000% more likeable and genuine.

If Joe the Plumber can help him – based on the everyday man appeal (unless you are a liberal shrill) – I believe it resonates into votes for true non decided voters and on the fence ideologues. Sometimes the human element trumps the “issue-based” element – of which I believe in today’s society is moot, opposing the political strategists (Morris, Carvell, etc) who keep trying to hammer down “issues” ad nauseum.

    Hey, there you go.

We threaten the American public by telling them if that McCain loses, he’ll do Viagra ads like Dole did.

    Republican landslide. :-)
