Actually that statement about Obama being tested was misquoted by the NYT. The actual statement by Biden was heard by three people who understood it to be "He might grow a testicle" in the first few months in office.

Michelle Obama emphatically denied that stating flatly that she has them in a box (a very small box)in the linen closet and he's only allowed to take them out when SHE says he can. And, she said, she hasn't taken them out since he's been in office. Not even for their Valentine's day trip to Chicago where she got busy with the chef, but allowed Barry to at least watch.

To me this is cause for concern but not alarm. I'm more concerned over the military ambitions of the Chinese. They have their act more together than the Russians. And with all the wealth they have from a huge trade imbalance from the west, they have more than enough cash flow to finance research and development and to deploy advanced weapon systems. On the other hand, Putin and his cronies have been nothing but nationalistic, paranoid, xenophobic, controlling ***holes for the past few years and have scared off any foreign investments in their country.

grits:

Yeah. I have to admit that I also was surprised to see the Russians rushin' to the front of the line to kick our butt.

I guess they couldn't resist the temptation. We've got our freshmen and 3rd string losers on the field against their varsity.

We're looking dumb alright.

Russia's military weakness could be seen from last year's war against the Georgian Army, which went in contrast with the military spending which has gone FIVE times higher since 2001. Plus, the weapons they have now was produced primarily in Soviet times. I think something smells fishy here.

Nobody listened to Patton and nobody listened to McArthur. What a shame. Had they been left to do what they knew was right we wouldn't have to deal with this today.

Here is what the other half is saying about this revalation:

From the BBC "Have your say" site:

Of course Russia should re-arm. The West is a threatening mish-mash of failed neocon and failed neo-liberal ideas. Russia is the progressive's original Great Hope for a better world. A strong Russia therefore sends a message to progressives everywhere: we can come back stronger!

thor, Vancouver

Should Russia rearm? Well, given the historically aggressive behavior of the US, who can blame them? It was perfectly predictable after the US announced plans for a "missile defense" system in Poland, that Russia would feel threatened. No one with a brain could fail to grasp that the US system could be used offensively against Russia. I thought they should suggest a similar installation in Cuba, which of course the US would consider practically an act of war, clearly exposing American hypocrisy!

Richard Savary, Pasadena CA USA

The biggest threat to world peace will always be from America. It's bombed over 50 countries since WWII. I think rearming Russia should bring more stability from the U.S. global oppression.

Love Commando, Halifax

But not all are so bad:

Of course Russia should re-arm. Instead of spending money on their crumbling infrastructure, we need them to spend money on weapons against the phantom menace known as America. After all, it helped them win the Cold War last time, didn't it?

God bless Texas!

Well spoken, joeblough.

The loaded irony of the "peregruzka" button continues.

When Biden predicted before the election that BO would be "tested" and we probably would think he was getting it wrong - I'll admit I didn't think at the time it would be the Russians leading off.

They used to think Americans were stupid. We've removed all doubt.

Putin knows our funding for advanced military technology is being slashed as "unnecessary" by Bambi and crowd...and he is jumping at the chance to close that gap while we are fast on the rocks and in peril because the Captain of our ship is a clueless community organizer who doesn't understand the world in a strategic sense simply because there is no money in it, and no easily affordable votes to be had. He has always been the big fish in a little pond, and now he is in the ocean, and everything in sight wants to eat his ass for lunch. ACORN would be like plankton in this example....and Bambi is amazed they still want to eat him alive because after all, he offered them a sandwich so they could like him a whole bunch. What a total amateur. But worst of all, we are the sandwich he is offering......oh boy, we are in for it.

Hah!

The Russians are going to pull a Reagan on us!

* They know we're broke.
* They know the anti-military left holds Washington.
* They know the liberal voting base wants to cripple the military, and that arms buildups will be unpopular with Obama voters.
* They know that Obama's continued popularity and hold on power can be shaken, meaning Obama can be scared.

So they're going to outspend us on armaments!

-- If Obama doesn't match their efforts, we lose military preeminence. Obama gets blamed. Russia moves forward -- militarily better off than the weakened American president.

-- If he does match their efforts, his own power base goes nuts, and his party falls into chaos. Russia moves forward -- militarily no worse off than they are now, against a weakened American president.

Clever.

Trust me. LowBrowma is no chess player.

And there's nothing on his idiot-support teleprompter to effectively counter this situation. He's lost before he makes his first move.

They must be falling off their chairs laughing in Moscow and Peking. And you have to admit, it is sort of darkly amusing ... except insofar as the joke's on us.

I guess it could be called Gorbachev's revenge.

Affirmative action meets a millennium of military master planning.

And the American public snoozes on, undisturbed by the Lame Stream Media, which of course will be focused on the lascivious naughtiness of executive bonuses and idiot plans to tax ourselves into <STRIKE>penury</STRIKE>, er ... prosperity.

Anybody with one working eye saw this coming long before the election. And we still muffed it!

A few more years of the unholly trinity (that one, Pelosi, Reid) and we will be marching on the streets and singing it here, in the USA.

Seems that the Russians are using that reset button. Just not "resetting" in the directions o-blah-blah and the smartest woman in the world thought.

The constant claim was that George Bush made the US hated and/or laughed at. Seems Putin (and others) are doing a good job of "kicking sand" at o-blah-blah and team.

Comrades! Listen to the deathless words of the National Anthem of the USSR - and tremble!

"Unbreakable Union of freeborn Republics,
Great Russia has welded forever to stand.
Created in struggle by will of the people,
United and mighty, our Soviet land!

Sing to the Motherland, home of the free,
Bulwark of peoples in brotherhood strong.
O Party of Lenin, the strength of the people,
To Communism's triumph lead us on!

Through tempests the sunrays of freedom have cheered us,
Along the new path where great Lenin did lead.
To a righteous cause he raised up the peoples,
Inspired them to labour and valorous deed.

Sing to the Motherland, home of the free,
Bulwark of peoples in brotherhood strong.
O Party of Lenin, the strength of the people,
To Communism's triumph lead us on!

In the vict'ry of Communism's deathless ideal,
We see the future of our dear land.
And to her fluttering scarlet banner,
Selflessly true we always shall stand!

Sing to the Motherland, home of the free,
Bulwark of peoples in brotherhood strong.
O Party of Lenin, the strength of the people,
To Communism's triumph lead us on!"

Interesting timeframe - 2011 ramp up... will Reps snatch defeat from the jaws of victory???

What is also omitted is Russia sells everything to everyone - so the fact their crap is "outdated" is 2 fold: 1) Cold War killed their military machine, whereas the tech advantages leaned American - due to massive Russian failure (remember when they couldnt even pay their Navy at all a few years ago) AND they depleated any advancement through the sale of parts, Mir's, T-90/78 tanks etc. - therefore broke the "tech advancement" chain of development.

Now that Putin has reverted back to hard line Communists, bilked billions from illegal oil/natural gas/arms sales and told Bambi to pound salt concerning Iran help for a drop in the defense shield - while threatening to relocate strategic systems in Cuba and Venezuela - we are reset to 1960.

My dad served on the USS Angler sub in both the Bay of Pigs and Cuban Missle Crisis - he said it is eerie how similiar the tone and actions are. Oddly enough - he felt the same about JFK as he does Bambi... coincidence?

Good to see Bambi and Hillary are all over this one.

But this is only fair.

Our country has caused so much pain and suffering in the world with our military dominance, it's only proper that the scales be balanced.

Certainly the world will be a safer place because of it.

And even if not, the most important goal in life is fairness, isn't it?

"And so much for Mrs. Clinton’s 'reset button'."

Next time, someone should give her the button marked "Easy." Or does Monica still have it?
