Meet Obama-Care’s Astroturfers – HCAN

As we have previously noted, the Associated Press is demonizing anti-Obama-care demonstrators as paid protesters, while they say nothing about those behind the pro-healthcare demonstrations.

For instance:

A demonstrator holds up a sign in support of a health care plan, in Lincoln, Neb., Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, just before a conservative political advocacy group, Americans for Prosperity, were to hold a rally to oppose the Democratic-led push to overhaul the country’s health-care system.

Demonstrators Susie McMahan of Lincoln, left, and Pat Carlson of Lincoln, Neb., argue about the Democratic-led push to overhaul the country’s health-care system, in Lincoln, Neb., Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, during a rally organized by conservative political advocacy group Americans for Prosperity.

Demonstrators, both in favor and against the Democratic-led push to overhaul the country’s health-care system, hold up signs in Lincoln, Neb., Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, during a rally organized by conservative political advocacy group Americans for Prosperity.

You would never know it from the Associated Press, but those people holding up the ‘Health Care Can’t Wait’ signs are from the highly professional Astro-turfers at Health Care for America NOW:

Health Care For America Now – About Us

What is Health Care for America Now (HCAN)?

Health Care for America Now (HCAN) is a national grassroots campaign of more than 1,000 organizations in 46 states representing 30 million people dedicated to winning quality, affordable health care we all can count on in 2009. Our organization and principles are supported by President Obama, Vice President Biden, and more than 190 Members of Congress.

We are building a national movement to win comprehensive health care reform by helping mobilize people in their communities to lobby their U.S. Senators and Representatives in Congress to stand up to the insurance companies and other special interest groups to achieve quality, affordable health care in 2009

Our Steering Committee includes: ACORN, AFL-CIO, AFSCME, AFT, Americans United for Change, Campaign for America’s Future, Center for American Progress Action Fund, Campaign for Community Change, Children’s Defense Fund Action Council, Communications Workers of America, International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace & Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW), MoveOn.org, NAACP, National Council of La Raza, National Education Association, National Women’s Law Center, SEIU, UFCW, USAction, Women’s Voices, Women’s Vote and Working America.

Here is HCAN’s idea of reasoned political discourse, fighting back against the right:

And here are some of their previous grassroots successes:

And yet somehow the Associated Press only managed to report the highly dubious claim that the demonstrators against Obama-care were the cats paws of special interests.

Isn’t that odd?

Especially when HCAN has been around so long and is so powerful.

  1. Liberals Demise

WOW ……yet another government acronym for mugs, thugs, worms and lazy, on the take butt wipes!
It is quite amazing that the liberal “R” tards need another org. that is nothing but a spin off of the shiite hole ACORN which is democrap run on taxpayers moola!

Did they purposely omit the CWPA from their list of supporters?

I am personally fed up with groups like Acorn-hole and the other miscreants that receive MY tax dollars to do the bidding of the left wing and obviously ethics challenged (Dodd, etc.) career politicians. It is high time that these hired thugs stop getting public money. It is not a wonder that the government is broke and wanting to take more with the way they throw around OUR money. Their health care bill makes judgments regarding “useful and / or productive” members of society. You don’t have to look far in the ranks of the “supporters” of this fiasco to see as many useless and non-productive individuals as one cares to see.

Check out this Obama email I received:

All throughout August, our members of Congress are back in town. Insurance companies and partisan attack groups are stirring up fear with false rumors about the President’s plan, and it’s extremely important that folks like you speak up now.

So we’ve cooked up an easy, powerful way for you to make a big impression: Office Visits for Health Reform.

All this week, OFA members like you will be stopping by local congressional offices to show our support for insurance reform. You can have a quick conversation with the local staff, tell your personal story, or even just drop off a customized flyer and say that reform matters to you.

We’ll provide everything you need: the address, phone number, and open hours for the office, information about how the health care crisis affects your state for you to drop off (with the option of adding your personal story), and a step-by-step guide for your visit.

According to our records, you live near Rep. Nita Lowey’s office in White Plains, NY.

Sign up now to visit Rep. Nita Lowey’s office in White Plains this week.

(Not your representative, or think there might be another office that’s easier for you to get to? Click here to find a different office.)

As you’ve probably seen in the news, special interest attack groups are stirring up partisan mobs with lies about health reform, and it’s getting ugly. Across the country, members of Congress who support reform are being shouted down, physically assaulted, hung in effigy, and receiving death threats. We can’t let extremists hijack this debate, or confuse Congress about where the people stand.

Office Visits for Health Reform are our chance to show that the vast majority of American voters know that the cost of inaction is too high to bear, and strongly support passing health reform in 2009.

Don’t worry if you’ve never done anything like this before. The congressional staff is there to listen, and your opinion as a constituent matters a lot. And if you bring a friend, you’ll have more fun and make an even greater impact.

Wherever you live, these visits matter: Many representatives are pushing hard toward reform, and they are taking a lot of heat from special interests. They deserve our thanks and need our support to continue the fight. But those who are still putting insurance companies and partisan point-scoring ahead of their constituents must know that voters are watching — and that we expect better.

Earlier this week, the President wrote that “this is the moment our movement was built for” and asked us all to commit to join at least one event this month. This is the way to answer that call, and rise to the challenge of this moment together.

Thank you for going the extra mile when it matters the most,

    Mitch
