Who they really are, from Discover The Networks:

Established in January 2007 with the aim of bringing about an immediate withdrawal of all U.S. troops from Iraq, Americans Against Escalation in Iraq (AAEI) describes itself as “a major, multi-million dollar national campaign to oppose the President’s proposal to escalate the war …”

After Democrats had won control of Congress two months prior to AAEI’s founding, President Bush did not, contrary to many leftists’ expectations, announce that he would end America’s military presence in Iraq. Instead he responded with a plan to deploy an additional 21,000 troops in an effort to quell the insurgency there. This prompted MoveOn.org’s Washington, DC Director Tom Matzzie to create AAEI. Says Matzzie: “We realized we needed a big campaign on the war because there was this mandate out of the election, but the Democratic majorities were thin and they hadn’t been united on the war, ever.”

Prior to his work with MoveOn and AAEI, Matzzie had been an Online Mobilization Director for the AFL-CIO. In 2004 he worked as Director of Online Organizing for John Kerry’s presidential campaign. In 2006 he worked on behalf of antiwar Democrat Ned Lamont, who was seeking to take a Connecticut Senate seat from Joe Lieberman, the Democrat-turned-Independent who favored America’s involvement in the Iraq War.

After forming AAEI, Matzzie quickly recruited a large team of leftwing activists to join his new organization, which is structured as a coalition of groups devoted to a consistent antiwar objective. Though AAEI claims that its member groups represent points “across the political spectrum,” its coalition members in fact hail exclusively from the political Left. These members include the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), MoveOn.org, the Center for American Progress Action Fund , USAction, Win Without War, Vote Vets, Campaign for America’s Future, the United States Student Association, Working Assets, Americans United for Change, Campus Progress Action, and the National Security Network.

From its earliest days, AAEI’s principal source of funding has been MoveOn.org. SEIU has also contributed heavily, as have a number of individual donors whose identities Matzzie refuses to publicly disclose. By September 2007, AAEI had spent $12 million on a combination of grass-roots organizing, polling (Matzzie hired the prominent Democratic pollsters Stan and Anna Greenberg), and television advertisements aimed at persuading the American public and Washington legislators that U.S. involvement in the Iraq War was bad policy. Matzzie states that shaping the media’s coverage of the war, and thereby “influencing the environment that the debate is taking place in,” constitutes “a huge part of what we [AAEI] do.”

AAEI’s efforts are focused most intensely in fifteen target states: Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

In the summer of 2007, AAEI launched its “Iraq Summer” campaign, a three-month “organizing initiative to end the War in Iraq.” Explained AAEI, “Those of you who are old enough will remember Mississippi Summer that helped pass the civil rights laws, and Viet Nam Summer that helped end the Viet Nam War. Iraq Summer will be the 21st century edition of those historic projects.” Aiming “to help fracture critical elements of the Republican base of support for the war by early fall,” AAEI deployed 110 organizers who were trained at the Maritime Institute in Baltimore — a union training facility — to the 40 Districts of key House and Senate Republicans who steadfastly supported “the President’s disastrous policy in Iraq.” In all of these Districts the organizers used “field operations, coalition building, paid and earned media strategies, volunteer events and cutting edge online organizing to turn up the heat on Republican members of Congress who are blocking a safe end to the Iraq [W]ar.”

AAEI gives each of its organizers a $125 video camera — called “The Flip” camera — which can be plugged into a USB port on a computer. With this equipment, AAEI activists have produced (and posted online) hundreds of videos showing their confrontations with supporters of the war.

According to a September 2007 New York Times piece: “[AAEI] coordinates extensively with Democrats on Capitol Hill. Matzzie himself meets with Speaker Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid, the Senate majority leader, ‘maybe once a month,’ he says, adding that he talks to their staffs ‘once a day, or at least a couple times a week.’ (Senior Democratic aides sometimes even join AAEI’s conference calls.) This might entail discussions of political strategy or more substantive policy briefings by experts from AAEI’s member think tanks.”

AAEI’s modus operandi bears little resemblance to that of the Vietnam-era antiwar demonstrators, who adopted a counterculture “hippie” image and took to the streets in massive numbers. By contrast, AAEI heeds the advice of the late organizer Saul Alinsky, who advised radicals to adopt the dress and appearance of the middle class, so as not to make themselves vulnerable to the charge that they are nothing more than fringe extremists

This is also the same group who were behind the Democrat get out the vote (and lie about the Republicans) effort ludicrously called the ‘Campaign To Defend America.’

From (the leftwing) Source Watch:

Campaign to Defend America

Campaign to Defend America is, according to a 2006 filing (registration #23820) under "Charities and Trusts" with the Office of the Secretary of State in the state of Washington, a spin-off from Americans Against Escalation in Iraq, the Democratic Party-oriented anti-war coalition led by MoveOn and lobbyist Tom Matzzie. In March, 2008, the Campaign began running anti-McCain TV ads. Months earlier, in September 2007, Campaign to Defend America ran ads against a number of other Republican senators.

On March 5, 2008, the Associated Press reported: "According to FEC reports and filings with the Internal Revenue Service, the Campaign to Defend America has received at least $1.4 million from the Fund for America, a nonprofit group set up last year by John Podesta, a former chief of staff for President Clinton; Anna Burger, the secretary-treasurer of the Service Employees International Union; and Rob McKay, a California philanthropist. The Campaign to Defend America is headed by Tom Matzzie, the former Washington director of the liberal activist group MoveOn. Among Fund for America donors are multimillionaire financier George Soros, who gave it $2.5 million last year and was a major contributor to an effort to defeat Bush in 2004. Burger’s union also contributed $2.5 million last year, according to Fund for America’s IRS records."

Also on March 5, 2008, the Center for Investigative Reporting noted the leaders of the Campaign to Defend America: Jeff Blum, president: Blum is also the executive director of USAction; Tom Matzzie, treasurer: Matzzie left his position as Washington director of MoveOn.org to become a chief operative of CDA; Wes Boyd, secretary: Boyd is a cofounder of MoveOn.org." …

These people are the self same professional America-haters we see behind every one of these “grassroots” groups.

And, as always, they are funded by Soros and the rest of the usual suspects.

But worse than that, at least by the lights of the Obama administration, they are full time lobbyists.

Are their no bounds to Mr. Obama’s hypocrisy?

(Thanks to Canary for the heads up.)

Pay premiums according to income. State still must provide health care. Everyone is required to have health insurance (except non-citizens). Will discourage new doctors, as they will be paid less. The doctor’s we have will have more patients. The new health care will be made to encourage everyone to go on it. Employers will have to mandate to the new system or pay feds money.
Better health care comparable to “military health care” (which is the same as HMO) but this will be better than HMO. What a mess. Think they are putting the cart before the donkey again. Incentitives for states to make citizens pay more state taxes. etc.

  2. (We especially enjoy seeing the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance on the list.)

Yes, especially when you consider obese people are going to be one of the first targets for denial of health care because our size costs more.

  5. proreason says:

Control of health care will complete the takeover of America initiated by communist sympathizers and communist agents in the 40’s and 50’s.

They are now long-gone, and their spawn of course deny their roots, but the tactics they use were put in place at that time; and the strategies they put in place at that time, and the goals they put in place at that time are embodied and enacted by Obama and Soros. At the heart of it, the movement is designed to eliminate freedom. Freedom enables people to resist the Central State, and an all-powerful Central State is the ultimate goal. Because only through an all-powerful Central State can a handful of people dominate hundreds of millions and dictate what they can do, while living in aristocratic splendor themselves, with no chance of being overthrown.

The Soviets achieved many elements of success, but were defeated by capitalism’s vastly superior economic capabilities. The Chinese have chosen to try to control capitalism and that strategy has proven to be much more successful.

And now, our masters attempt to achieve the Chinese model from the opposite end of the spectrum, by controlling capitalism, one step at a time. Because capitalism is the most important element of freedom. Each step eliminates an ability for you to make an economic choice Each step transfers power to the central government. Each step reduces your ability to resist. Each step reduces the freedom of your life. Each step reduces your wealth.

And it is not entirely obvious what is happening, because it is easy to proclaim that each restriction is by itself necessary and good. Social Security has indeed been a good thing for the country. Other government interventions, like the interstate highways, the space program, and some controls over private enterprise have been beneficial. So they argue with the full power granted by our trillions of dollars that capitalism is evil. Yet, we know that private enterprise is the only economic system with ability to adapt to untold future problems, and that central planning has FAILED thousands of times in thousands of venues. Yet, we march on toward despotism.

The reason that health care will be the final blow is that virtually every aspect of life can be controlled once the Central Planners have their death grip on health care. What you eat, the air you breathe, anything that affects the environment or your mental stare, the trasportation systems you use, and more…… all of them can be shown to impact your health and therefore be deserving of control by the iron fist of your betters.

And the Commissars are gleefully looking forward to wielding their powerful new weapon of propagandizing your very longevity. We must do this for you, they will tell you, or you will die sooner than you otherwise would. Not because we killed you, but because you chose to kill yourself by refusing to comply with our wisdom.

I’ve said many times that Obama is the most dangerous person in the world in the last 80 years.

    Here comes why.

  9. Trialdog says:

As we watch the days of America’s greatness fade, I fondly recall the pride I had for her. Once a place of immeasurable hope and promise. Dreams could come true for anyone who dared dream. I was always confident my fellow citizens loved our country as I did. As such, I was cavalier in my attitudes about the Marxists. Whether it was the wild eyed shallow comments the student progressives would make in class or the pathetic reading lists issued by the old guard communist professors. Everyone I knew and had fun with laughed at those people. We didn’t pay them much mind. Heck, if you did your assignments, you actually read and learned why socialism is tyranny and Marxism evil.
Then I went on to law school. I was thrilled to go. I looked forward to having true intellectual discussions with other students. I attended a top tier school at the same time Obama was going to Harvard. It turned out that discussions I had with other students didn’t go as I thought they would. The Marxists, progressives, collectivists, or whatever you want to call them, were more committed and wild than in college. The campus pretty much divided into groups. Those that understood liberty, freedom, and prosperity is found in free market capitalist economies following the rule of law didn’t spend much time debating the Marxists and, again, thought of them dismissively. We knew that the real world didn’t have time for such silliness. Reflecting back on it, I do recall the most heated discussions I had with another student in law school was with a student from Harvard who was visiting as part of some summer exchange program. I cannot recall his name but vividly remember how far out there he was.
Well, now they’ve won. By deceit and manipulation, the Marxists are now in power. It matters not that their approach is wrong for America, will destroy our liberties, and weaken us. For that is the goal. Any idea, no matter how harmful or vacuous, is good as long as it knocks down some imagined inequality or unfairness.
I do not know whether our country will ever be able to reverse the damage these people cause. To do so will require a massive reversal in thinking by legions of people swept up in to these grievance groups. However, being part of the group becomes a self fulfilling reality for these folks. It is their identity, their purpose, their reason for being. They constantly receive reinforcement for their belief system; it is their lazy intellectual enlightenment.
The destruction of the greatest health care system in the world in the name of equality is but one element in a broad all encompassing plan. I’ll admit, I knew Obama was dangerous before the election. Being a normal person however, I could not imagine the scope of what has actually happened, and what is going to happen. The whole scenario is quite depressing and I am finding my self not caring much anymore. I know I must prepare, watch out for my own, and try to brace against a future of mediocrity and mendacity.
Thank you for your site. Thanks to the commenters. You folks see it.

“I do not know whether our country will ever be able to reverse the damage these people cause. ”

      Well said.

Interesting observations from somebody who has lived in the belly of the beast.

In many ways, for decades, we had a pre-9/11 mentality when it came to the Marxists slithering into power in our country.

We didn’t know we were in a war with them. But they knew, just as the jihadists knew they were in a war with freedom.

We were pushing our baby carriages, driving our cars, enjoying our families. They were plotting night and day to overthrow everything we have thought was good.

We thought of it as TV. They saw a propaganda weapon more powerful than a nuclear bomb.

We saw college as a means to get a job and learn some stuff about the world. They saw it as indoctination centers.

We saw a world with different races learning how to live together in harmony. They saw people easy to manipulate and pump full of hatred.

We saw a country eager to share our blessings with the world. They saw an opportunity to paint us as greedy speculators bent on imposing poverty everywhere.

We saw brave brave countrymen willing to sacrifice everything to keep us free. They saw that they could portray those heroes as killers and sadists.

      We were blind.

But it isn’t over. If hatred is what they wanted, now they have it. And we are the people who built the Trade Center before they tore it down. We built GM before they destroyed it. We created Citibank before they undermined it. And they haven’t captured the military. And they haven’t captured huge swaths of the country. We are here, we know who they are, and we are angrier than their fey selves can ever imagine.

There is no revenge that can compare to the revenge of the righteous.
