Michelle Obama: Don’t Let Them Eat Cake

From a cheering Associated Press:

First lady asks restaurants to serve healthy foods

By Mary Clare Jalonick, Associated Press Writer Mon Sep 13, 2010

WASHINGTON – First lady Michelle Obama is prodding the nation’s restaurants to add more healthy options to menus, label those items more prominently and market nutritious foods to kids.

Speaking to the National Restaurant Association on Monday, Mrs. Obama pleaded with restaurants small and large to take a little butter or cream out of their dishes, use low fat milk and provide apple slices or carrots as a default side dish on the kids’ menu.

Mrs. Obama said that Americans are spending half their food dollars outside the home and eating a third of meals in restaurants.

That’s odd. We don’t know any Americans who can afford to eat a third of their meals in restaurants. But of course the Obamas travel in a different social circle.

She asked the restaurants to rethink the food they offer and reformulate their menus to help combat childhood obesity.

"We have to do more, we have to go farther, and we need your help to lead this effort," she told the restaurateurs and executives…

We will once again note this excerpt from Mr. Obama’s second autobiography, The Audacity Of Hope, page 36:

Sometimes finding the right balance [on government regulation] is relatively easy. We all agree, for instance, that society has a right to constrain individual freedom when it threatens to do harm to others. The First Amendment doesn’t give you the right to yell “fire” in a crowded theater; your right to practice your religion does not encompass human sacrifice. Likewise, we all agree that there must be limits to the state’s power to control our behavior, even if it’s for our own good.

Not many Americans would feel comfortable with the government monitoring what we eat, no matter how many deaths and how much of our medical spending may be due to rising rates of obesity.

But that was then (2006), and this is now. And even those minor limits on government control have gone by the wayside.

After all, Mrs. Obama needs some kind of platform to allow her to tell people how to live.

Whatever happened to the First Lady being a social butterfly who was a gracious and courteous host, a shining example for the women of the US to emulate? Laura Bush had her causes but she never got in anybody’s face about it.

I like butter, cream and whole milk. If my favorite restaurants started using skim milk and margarine it would be time to find a new place. We try to eat healthy at home but when we go out it is to treat ourselves and I want real food. I don’t need some meddling attorney messing with my eats.

They had Thunderbutt on the NFL Network of all places last week. I had to change the channel as she makes me want to grind my teeth every time I see her. It just about ruined the game of football for me.

Or the “Jackie Kennedy-esk” fashion plate that was supposed to be all the rage in influencing the women of the world.

Like anyone would want to buy their clothes from the dollar store like her…lol

Cooking is chemistry. If the recipe (formula) is tampered with, it doesn’t taste the same. Someone should tell the first lady that her thunder thighs aren’t the fault of the chef. Take responsibility for your own unhealthy eating habits and leave me alone.

A third of your meals at a restaurant? That’s one meal a day! Who eats one meal a day at a restaurant?

I eat out maybe twice a month in a good month. When I do, I want fat! I want heavy cream! I want real sugar! I want eggs… real eggs! I also want fresh fruit and veggies. Not some plastic wrapped chemically treated 6 month old apple slice marked “healthy”.

Standing in a line at the local Dairy Queen… If you take out the ice cream, chocolate sauce, whipped cream, sprinkles, and the cherry, I suppose a banana split is very healthy, but it just doesn’t taste the same does it?

She so fat, just the SHADOW of her ass weighs 50 pounds. Then again, I guess Messiah has been spending too many late nights in the steamroom with Rahm. Those insults out of my system, I’ll just say that I love it when freakish proportioned liberals like her lecture others on their eating habits.

Trust me, I hate agreeing with her, and the last thing I want is the government telling me what/how to eat. But I have to agree with her here because McDonald’s and White Castle are actually considered “restaurants”. This is of course the fault of parents, and I don’t think the government is the solution, but the truth is the truth…the problem is that lazy-ass parents keep taking the kids to McD’s because they’re too damn lazy to cook some rice and chicken.

    • untrainable says:

Stupid parents feeding their kids Micky Dees and White Castle making them fat and in turn dying young is what liberals used to call “Natural Selection”.

I think french fries might be the greatest tool for cleaning out the shallow end of the gene pool.

    • jobeth says:

A lot of the obesity can be pinned directly on the upside down “food pyramid” that claims that carbs should be at the base of your diet.
Give me a break….Carbs are nothing more than sugar.

Meats and protein sources were at the base way back when I was a kid…and there wasn’t so much obesity then…Of course we actually went outside to play/bike ride….unlike today’s kids sitting in front of the game console. Wii is only a little improvement.

You can’t count on the schools to allow recess or gym time like we got…There is no time in the day anymore….They have more important social subjects to learn…like “Heather Has Two Mommies” and how to be a good little socialist.

As someone who is constantly on a diet…If I eat protein…I have no hunger and eat far less. If I eat the recommended carb portions…I’m hungry and crave constantly and find myself cheating. And I don’t worry about the fat in that meat. That’s not the fat that will hurt you. Its the kind of manmade junk in margerine. Enjoy your butter. God knew what he was doing.

I joined a diet group at my church and they insisted that we follow the “recommended” government pyramid dictates.

      I quit.

    • untrainable says:

Holy Crap Jobeth! Doesn’t that violate the separation of church and steak?

    • jobeth says:

      Very good untrainable…lol

I’m going to have to look into that!

Michelle Obama apparently can’t control what Barack eats, what with all the waffles, hamburgers, and ice cream he’s consumed since being anointed Emperor… so what makes her think she can control what the rest of the country eats?

  10. canary says:

That glucose free food, kept the Obamas from going to Clinton’s wedding.
They are so in our face eating like Kings & Queens, and think they are above everyone else.

Senator Tom Coburn, said there is an outrageous bill being pushed to tell Americans what they can eat, and i think the Obama’s free eating habits should be used in court.
