Michelle Says Obama Is Working Too Hard

From a similarly concerned Politico:

FLOTUS tells of Obama’s worry

By POLITICO STAFF | 06/13/11

First lady Michelle Obama on Monday told a fundraiser in Southern California of the toll the presidency has taken on her husband Barack Obama.

"I see the sadness and worry that’s creasing his face," she said to a crowd of about 500 at the Pasadena luncheon organized by the Southern California Women For Obama. She described his worth ethic as “tireless,” according to pool reports.

"He reads every word, every memo, so he is better prepared than the people briefing him," she said. "This man doesn’t take a day off."

So even playing golf and shooting hoops must be work for the poor guy.

She said the next two years of campaigning would be difficult for the Obamas and their supporters. "It is not going to be easy, and it is going to be long," she said. "Now more than ever we need your help to finish what we started."

This is one of a number of stories today along this same line. The AP tells us that Michelle and the girls wish that Mr. Obama would not run again. (A sentiment we share, by the way.) The Los Angeles Times frets that, whatever the outcome, this will be Mr. Obama’s last campaign for office.

Indeed, we almost couldn’t make it through those articles, for all the tears clouding our eyes.

She also mentioned health care reform, the passage of the Lilly Ledbetter Act and the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. She praised "justice" in the killing of Osama bin Laden, and the withdrawal of troops from overseas.

Mind you, this is supposed to be a litany of Mr. Obama’s successes.

Guests paid $1,000 per ticket to attend the event. This evening, she will speak at another fundraiser in Westwood.

If Mrs. Obama is going to fundraise for Mr. Obama, does that mean we are free to criticize her as a political figure?

But, back to the issue at hand, as the Politico helpfully points out, this is not the first time that Mrs. Obama has expressed her concerns about the toll the Presidency is taking on her husband. In fact, she mentioned it just last month. (See the clip above.)

Even so, we are reminded of a similar tale of the Obama’s long suffering we posted back during the 2008 campaign, from a commiserating New York Times:

Obama: ‘I Don’t Believe in Coming in Second’

By Jeff Zeleny

September 6, 2008

MIDDLETOWN, N.J. … The singer Jon Bon Jovi and a nearby neighbor hosted back-to-back events for Mr. Obama. While his message was largely the same – criticizing Republicans for their convention message – he steeled his supporters for a tough battle ahead in the final 60 days of the campaign.

“I hope you guys are up for a fight. I hope you guys are game because I haven’t been putting up with 19 months of airplanes and hotel food and missing my babies and my wife – I didn’t put up for that stuff just to come in second,” he said

Still, whatever travails are involving in campaigning, you have to say that it beats working.

The Golfer-In-Chief took time off from his rigorous schedule on the links to announce he would be fine with one term.

Really? Or is he just such an egotistical weiner that he can’t handle losing worse then Jimmy Carter?

  2. BillK says:

Well let’s make sure he gets a nice, long vacation starting in January, 2013.

  3. P. Aaron says:

    Fine. Retire now!

  4. JohnMG says:

What absolute bullshit! If he wants some time off he could stay off his non-stop campaign circuit. He could cut out his apology tour. He could take a correspondence course in business.

But work?! Him?! The bastard’s never had a job!!!!

  5. Liberals Demise says:

Poor baaaaaaaaby……Make him quit before some one beans him with a golf ball.
She is on the West Coast lying and he is on the East Coast lying. She is fair game as far as going after. She is making more money at her Fudd Raiser.
Where are the pics of him playing with his daughters? He is too busy working on his pathetic golf score and B-ball.
The daughters are fatherless just as he was……..no cycle broken here (sad).

  6. canary says:

But, People magazine has an article of what a good father Obama is. Spends days playing golf and hoops instead of being with his daughters.
Do they think if he loses he will spend any more time with them?
They want to make money and do a reality show.

  7. tranquil.night says:

Well perhaps, like the luminous Alec Baldwin has suggested, the Bamster isn’t relieving his stress and anxiety in the ways a normal, high-functioning male should be.

  8. Reality Bytes says:

Right On ChellemaBelle! He should be home collecting unemployment like the other 9.1% of Americans.

  9. canary says:

Robert Gibbs told us at press conference Obama is “a voracious consumer” of news.

Two weeks after Palin’s Facebook post giving her opinion of the health care bill, the

White House established a “Reality Check” blog on which officials challenge assertions that they consider false.

Sept 9, 2009 sat through Walter Cronkite memorial and gave speech.

Obama said, was “a little bit harder to find today,” when journalism lapses into “instant commentary and celebrity gossip and the softer stories that Walter disdained. . .

Dan Pfeiffer; White House communications director, noted how Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube helped Obama “go around the filter” of the press.

Obama went on the ‘The Daily Show to tape Comedy Central with Jon Stewart as host.
Gibbs “the president hasn’t been shy about going to the places where people are getting their information and trying to make his case. And I think that’s what he’ll do on the show.”

Obama has 3000 press assistants to think for him.

  10. Mithrandir says:

“I see the sadness and worry that’s creasing his face…”
Um…no…., you are thinking about LINCOLN and the deterioration of his face during the Civil War that is subject of Ken Burns series, and the Lincoln Museum in Springfield Illinois. Your husband has just decided not to dye his hair, (a la Bill Clinton) to make himself look esteemed.

“This man doesn’t take a day off.”
Who WAS that chugging beer in Ireland, and playing ping-pong in England while the Prime Minister of Israel was addressing Congress? Where was he went the midwest flooded, and the tornadoes tore it apart?

“Now more than ever we need your help to finish what we started.”
If you did your job, instead of prancing around the world, you wouldn’t have to resort to BEGGING.

She also mentioned……the killing of Osama Bin Laden….
Ahem…you mean the Nobel Peace Prize winning President? You are actually trying to get political points out of that? Give back the prize already.

Someone should investigate why she had to turn in her law license in her home state as well. I am sure the media will be on top of that one soon.

  11. Chase says:

Remember the old dunking machines at the county and state fairs?

Seems to me Obama could make a lot of money spending a couple hours a day in one of those….and he could call it time off for swimming.

    • Liberals Demise says:

He could start to balance the budget with this gimmick or at least pay for Mookshells’ fashion statement.

    • Right of the People says:

The line would be miles long but well worth the wait.

I’ve an even better idea, one of those booths where the clown’s head sticks through hole and you throw Nerf balls. If we substituted baseballs for the Nerf balls we could raise a fortune.

  12. artboyusa says:

Smoke, smoke smoke…golf, golf, golf…fundraise, fundraise, fundraise…what an intolerable burden he carries on those narrow shoulders.
