Other News Items For The Week Of Mar 4 - 10

This thread is for our readers to post news items that might not have gotten enough attention during the week. Articles that fit under the topic of a recent thread should be posted there.

Please don’t post pieces from popular sites like the Drudge Report. Also, avoid material from blogs and editorials unless they are truly newsworthy in their own right.

In order to make the articles as readable as possible, try to stick to the format described in the first of these weekly threads here.

As always, remember to excerpt heavily and to provide a link to the original source.

This was not covered by the MSM. It’s a bit older, but I just found out about it recently.

“In fall 2006, a group of UC Berkeley graduate students, led by sociology doctoral candidate Michael Barnes, formed the Hip-Hop Studies Working Group to increase “the presence of hip-hop studies in academia,” which includes, as a long-term goal, to recruit more faculty who are interested in hip-hop. Similar groups already exist at the University of Michigan and UCLA, and there is one in the works at UC Davis.”

    And it gets worse…

    Good news from Turkey

Iran’s deputy defence minister, Pasdaran, Revolutionary Guard General goes missing

Tehran, 5 March (AKI) - Iranian foreign minister Manouchehr Mottaki has asked Turkey to shed light on the disappearance in Istanbul last week of a retired Iranian general and former deputy-defence minister. General Ali Reza Asghari, 63, a former senior officer in Iran’s Pasdaran, or Revolutionary Guard, and deputy defence minister for eight years until 2005, disappeared in the Turkish city after arriving there on a flight from Damascus. “We are awaiting clarity and an explanation from the Ankara government who we hold responsible for the ex-deputy minister’s safety,” Mottaki said on Monday.

Asghari was for several years the head of Iran’s missile programme, and some Iranian media reports have alleged that he may have been abducted by US agents.

According to these reports Asghari’s name appeared on a CIA ‘hit list’ of 20 people involved in Iran’s nuclear programme.

Religion of peace, it’s not just Jews and Christians.

IRAN: 70 BAHAI STUDENTS EXPELLED FROM UNIVERSITY

Tehran, 5 March (AKI) - Iran’s education ministry has ordered the expulsion from university of 70 students of the Bahai religion who have refused to convert to Islam. The ministry has also prevented 191 Bahai followers from sitting university entrance exams, Bahai activists have told the United Nations. The Iranian constitution does not recognise the Bahai as having the status of a minority religion - such as Jews and Chrstians - and according to the law, those that profess the faith and are members of the Bahai community can face the death penalty.
Bahais in Iran who do not renounce their faith are denied access to university and jobs in any public professions.

A follower of the Bahai faith, Zabiollah Mehrami was killed on 15 December 2005 while in jail in the Yazd prison in central Iran and the circumstances behind his death are unclear.

The Bahai faith is one of the youngest of the world’s major religions. It was founded by Bahaullah in Iran in the 19th century. The central idea of the faith is that of unity, and Bahais seek to remove barriers of race, gender, and belief. There are 6 million Bahais in the world, in 235 countries.

WASHINGTON — More people in the world would live if Vice President Dick Cheney died, political commentator Bill Maher said, raising few eyebrows despite suggesting the death of the U.S. vice president would be a good thing.

Actually, I’m not pissed that they mention Coulter’s comment in this article. You won’t find any other news outlets that’ll mention the left up in arms over Edwards being called a faggot but not about Maher’s hope Cheney gets murdered.

    Wait, there’s more…

Victims of the oppressive patriarchy we call America….

    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,257078,00.html

CROSS RIVER, New York — A public high school has suspended three girls who disobeyed officials by saying the word “vagina” during a reading from a well-known feminist play.

    ….

The girls took turns reading the excerpt until they came to the word, then said it together.

“My short skirt is a liberation flag in the women’s army,” they read. “I declare these streets, any streets, my vagina’s country.”

Think of all the culture we’d miss if high school students couldn’t read this kind of material out for the other kids in school….

Naturally, Eve Ensler, writer of the Vagina Monologues is defending the kids, claiming that they were “standing up for art against censorship”. This is partly because Eve Ensler is a complete idiot, and partly because if you want to turn vivacious American girls into dour, hateful lesbians, you got to get ‘em when they’re young.

Perhaps the most telling scene from Ensler’s play is the scene where a 13-year-old girl (later changed to 16) was molested by a 24-year-old woman who got her drunk and head sex with her.

“If it was rape, it was good rape,” said the character. “I’ll never need a man again.”

Meanwhile, in other parts of the world, Ms. Ensler and her ilk apparently feel no need to comment on the real oppressive patriarchy out in the middle east–
    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,256980,00.html
–where a woman who was kidnapped by a group of men and raped fourteen times over the next few hours was sentenced to 90 lashes for the crime of being alone with a man not related to her.

    According to another site–
    http://www.news.com.au/story/0.....-2,00.html
–when her family found out how their daughter and sister had been brutally raped (sometime after she tried to kill herself, I would assume), her brother beat the shit out of her.

Again, I say, where are the feminists?

–While NOW fights for women to be able to have any man who asks them out but isn’t rich burned at the stake for ’sexual harassment’, men in islamic countries have what basically amounts to a right to rape.
–While people like Naomi Wolff make up thousands of deaths from women’s urge to look attractive, islamic regimes are driving women back into burning buildings because they’re not wearing abayahs, or yanking out fingernails with pliers because they’re painted.
–While the Democrat party fights for the right of women to kill their children, women in many countries, such as India (where about 1 in 400,000 aborted infants are male) get one whether they like it or not (http://www.operationrescue.org/?p=464 http://www.abortionconcern.org.....ype=forced Not that it’s unknown to happen right here in America…. )
–And while many feministes (most notably in recent days, profanely slanderous John Edwards employee Amanda Marcotte) spill constant hatred at Christianity for make-believe attempts to stop them from turning their entire life into a quest for sexual pleasure, many women in the middle east are physically incapable of experiencing sexual pleasure, due to a traditional islamic practice traditionally known as “female circumcision.”

I would actually be tempted to believe that feminists actually gave a wet shit in a swift stream about women, if even would would step up and talk about the real abuse going on out there.

    And, just for comic relief……

The more liberal of Madison, WI’s two papers, the Capital Times, calls for Bush’s impeachment again. It’s like “buzzword bingo” - count the liberal platitudes in the short piece:

I spent this past weekend here in Vermont with three courageous members of the group Iraq Veterans Against the War: former Army Sgt. Drew Cameron, former Marine Cpl. Matt Howard and former Army Sgt. Adrienne Kinne.

It was a remarkable experience, but not because these bright and articulate young veterans had chosen to speak so openly and so directly about the reasons why they favor ending the U.S. occupation of Iraq. IVAW members are speaking up all over this country, more boldly, more aggressively, every day.

Rather, it was remarkable because these veterans have come to the same conclusion that has been reached by a growing number of honest critics of the war: that if we are determined to bring the troops home, we have to communicate our seriousness.

We cannot campaign for “nonbinding resolutions.”

We need to express our seriousness by sending a signal that we feel the need to end this occupation of a foreign land is so pressing that we are prepared to speak even of impeaching the men who promise to maintain their military misadventure for so long as they occupy the White House.

There are millions of Americans who would like to impeach George Bush and Dick Cheney for the long list of high crimes and misdemeanors that have been associated with the names of these errant executives over the past six years. For instance, polls suggest that a majority of Americans favor impeachment if it is proved that the president lied to the America people about the reasons for going to war in Iraq.

But there are still those casual citizens who suggest that impeachment is a “distraction” from the important business of the day.

    What absurdity!

Impeachment is not a casual act of political retribution. It is not a game.

We are not talking about stained blue dresses anymore. We are talking about a war that has cost more than 3,000 lives and ruined tens of thousands more (need we mention Walter Reed?), a war that has cost hundreds of thousands of Iraqi lives, a war that is emptying our federal treasury at a rate of $200 million a day.

Impeachment, as intended by the founders who created a system of checks and balances in order to “chain the dogs of war,” is a political act initiated, at its best, with the purpose of preventing a president from maintaining a course of action that affronts the Constitution, endangers the republic or damages democracy.

The war in Iraq does all of these things. And yet, as the Bush-Cheney administration proposes to surge 21,500 more young Americans into the quagmire in Iraq, and as the Congress debates nonbinding resolutions that, by virtue of their very names, are guaranteed to be inconsequential, there are those who would dare suggest that impeachment initiatives might distract the House and Senate.

There is no more serious work than ending the war.

You know what war costs a lot more than $200 million per day and is the very definition of a failed policy? The “war on poverty.” The libs won’t be willing to admit they’re wrong on that one anytime soon.

Oh, I forgot the ultimate liberal comment:

We were joined by Cindy Sheehan, the mother of a slain Iraq War soldier

Yes, that’s all she is, a poor grieving Mom…

I have to say that the “Missed News” threads have worked out better than I would have ever hoped to dream. I can tell from the stats that they are regularly one of the most popular threads with visitors.

I know I have stressed keeping the excerpts short — for various reasons, but most especially just to keep the threads from becoming too bandwidth/cpu demanding. But if you can, please do include the headline and the author and maybe a couple of paragraphs.

Otherwise I and presumably others end up clicking on stories that I have already read, or worse, missing pieces that we might have wanted to read. But that’s a very minor quibble.

Please keep up the great work. These are always my favorite threads, and apparently the favorite threads of many others.

The Redneck - great post - the feminazis only goal is to make the feminazis more equal than men (and probably put them into labor camps only to be brought out for sperm removal for procreation purposes). . .

When they ever realize that their agenda hurts women and girls then we will begin to see a change. . .but like most liberals and leftist - they won’t ever admit to the failures of their ‘programs’

And talk about hypocracy - this feminazi bunch supporting a serial sex offender like Clinton simply because he supported abortion. What a load of trash.

I fear for Bill Maher’s health! Last night on the Craig Ferguson show he said something to the effect of “Islam is the religion of peace, and if you don’t agree they’ll kill you.” Ferguson immediately responded “I don’t want anything to do with that” and changed the subject. I’m holding my breath until CAIR demands an apology from Maher.

Looks like the AQ leaders are going down faster than PLO leaders are.

BAGHDAD — The leader of the Al Qaeda-affiliated Islamic State of Iraq, Abu Omar al-Baghdadi, has been captured in a raid west of Baghdad, an Iraqi military spokesman said Friday.

U.S. officials had no confirmation of the statement by Brig. Gen. Qassim al-Moussawi, spokesman of the Baghdad security operation.

Al-Moussawi said al-Baghdadi was captured Friday in a raid in Abu Ghraib on the western outskirts of Baghdad.

“One of the terrorists who was arrested with him confessed that the one in our hands is al-Baghdadi,” al-Moussawi said.

A prominent Iraqi Shiite close to Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki also said al-Baghdadi had been captured. But he spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not supposed to release the information.

Al-Baghdadi, also known as Abu Abdullah Rashid al-Baghdadi, has been identified in statements posted on Islamic extremist Web sites as the head of the Islamic State, which was proclaimed last year after the death of the leader of Al Qaeda in Iraqi, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

Al-Baghdadi was said to have headed the Mujahedeen Shura Council, an alliance of Al Qaeda and other jihadist organizations, which was set up last year to downplay the role of foreigners in the Iraqi insurgency.

    Too frigging bad.

‘We are not talking about stained blue dresses anymore’ - newsflash, hotshot - former President Clinton was Impeached for lying to a Grand Jury - not the blue dress incident which just disgrace the Office of President of the United States and America in front of the World.

‘need we mention Walter Reed?’ - the building under the most heat is not the hospital but part of the ‘complex’ and is used to house outpatients who still need daily therapy. And oh by the way - WRACH is on the 2005 BRAC list - which is probably the main reason, money is not being spent on fixing up buildings slated to be demolished/sold. And finally on this one, might not (oops, once again)former President Clinton’s slash and burn tactics with all things military (but most especially the budget) for his 8 years in office have contributed to this, maybe in just a little way?

’suggest that a majority of Americans favor impeachment if it is proved that the president lied to the America people about the reasons for going to war in Iraq’. Suggest, if - what sound, concrete and serious words to use to destroy America and the American way of life.

If these people weren’t getting the front page news around the country with this crap - I’d laugh. But as long as they continue to peddle lies, distortions and half told stories, just to destroy America, the sitting President and the Military - I won’t stay quiet. Just wish I’d caught this sooner but alas, I know there is no point in going to any of these ‘news’ papers or websites - reason, logic and dissent are not allowed.
