From those defenders of the faith at Reuters:

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Publisher Random House has pulled a novel about the Prophet Mohammed’s child bride, fearing it could “incite acts of violence.”
“The Jewel of Medina,” a debut novel by journalist Sherry Jones, 46, was due to be published on August 12 by Random House, a unit of Bertelsmann AG, and an eight-city publicity tour had been scheduled, Jones told Reuters on Thursday.
The novel traces the life of A’isha from her engagement to Mohammed, when she was six, until the prophet’s death. Jones said that she was shocked to learn in May, that publication would be postponed indefinitely.
“I have deliberately and consciously written respectfully about Islam and Mohammed … I envisioned that my book would be a bridge-builder,” said Jones.
Random House deputy publisher Thomas Perry said in a statement the company received “cautionary advice not only that the publication of this book might be offensive to some in the Muslim community, but also that it could incite acts of violence by a small, radical segment.”
“In this instance we decided, after much deliberation, to postpone publication for the safety of the author, employees of Random House, booksellers and anyone else who would be involved in distribution and sale of the novel,” Perry said…
“They did have a great love story,” Jones said of Mohammed and A’isha, who is often referred to as Mohammed’s favorite wife. “He died with his head on her breast.”
Ah, our courageous book publishers.
Afraid to even publish a laudatory book about their hero.

Censorship due to religious discomfort is a very bad thing. In a free society ideas must be equally free in order to debate.
I’m surprised that a book publisher that regularly tackles lists of “banned books” that shock other groups can be so easily bullied into submission by political correctness or warnings from a violent minority.
This woman does not even seem to criticize the circumstances surrounding Aisha’s arranged marriage and what we consider the rape as a child to a fifty something “prophet” with several other wives. Why is Western culture censoring itself from even talking about hard issues? The only people who would ban such books are likely Islamic extremists, so why are we bowing down to their stupidity?

Well well, isn’t this special. Doubleday, (a division of Random House), didn’t seem to have any problem publishing ‘The Da Vinci Code’ or ‘Angels and Demons’ but suddenly, the powers that be are afraid of painting “a different” major religion in a less than desirable light.
Frikkin’ hypocrites..!!
Therein lies the rub. Even speaking truthfully about the “religion of peace” (TM) is offensive to it’s cult-like followers. Sorry mooselimbs but Moo-Ham-Med was a pedophile, plain and simple and no matter how you try and disguise that fact, it remains a disgusting and immoral gospel that constantly indicts the mindless sycophant trolls who adhere to the moon god prophet.

There’s no more effective form of censorship than self-censorship.

let me clarify this……the publisher stopped this because of outright fear of Islam and the horror and destruction it brings. They werent worried about offending a small group, they were worried about having to make their own funeral arrangements.
The woman wanted to build bridges eh? Well guess what toots….this is the murdering terror you try to make nice with. Go kiss a rabid pit bull…the result is the same. No matter how kind or tolerant you are to islamists, you are going to have your face ripped off and your throat torn out. That is just for being an infidel.
They are offended by being alive. They are offended by the rules of their book. They will be offended until there are no more left to offend them.
That is why, we need to eliminate the possibility of having such sensitive people around. AS soon as possible. They arent capable of co existing….so lets make sure they dont exist at all.

If we don’t go for them, they will continue to come for us. Diane West, in one of her outstanding articles, said that proportionally, we in the US have experienced more terrorist activity than Europe. That’s a bit surprising perhaps, but true nonetheless. A suggestion has been made that we in the West could separate from Islam physically, allowing both of us a life. However, the leadership of the Democrats and Republicans don’t seem to recognize Islam as the threat. Our President views Islam as the religion of peace–the religion that has had its true nature wrested from it by Islamic radicals. That’s a good one! Imagine, Islamic radicals!
Given the youth bulges throughout the Muslim world, the natural runaway hormones of the young in general, and our leadership’s total denial we seem to be up against it. Recent research suggests that only 7-8% of the Muslim youth are radicals. Thankfully, that means that only 92 million Muslims are radical. Ah! We can sleep again.
The Random House cave was expected, and there will be many more. Our State Department, in all its wisdom, continues to encourage the importation of Muslims from throughout the world. Why? It involves diversity and multicultural understanding no doubt. The Diversity Immigrant Visa Lottery allows 50,000 immigrants yearly to come into the US and obtain a Green Card. These people represent “under represented ethnic groups ” throughout the world. They stay in the US permanently. This program is just one of many mandated by our Congress–one of the greatest assemblages of nitwits on the planet. We need no more immigration at this time. It isn’t racist, it isn’t Islamophobic, or hateful–it’s self preservation.

Ok,
Let me get this straight - An author writes a book with a positive slant about a guy marrying a child while having other wives, who just happens to have started the “religion of peace”(TM). And the publishers are worried that the followers of said “religion of peace”(TM) will violently react, causing death and destruction?
Notice that there haven’t even been any threats of violence from the “religion of peace”(TM) - only that the publishers are ‘worried’ that there will be.
Apparently, Islam has gone from actually taking physical hostages to holding intellectual hostages. Is there any more apt example that Islam is antithetical to our way of life?
I don’t know which is more pitiful - a bunch of bully Mohamadeans, or the cowardly publishers.

He married her when she was 6 but waited 3 years to consummate. You don’t see those kind of old fashioned values these days. The disturbing thing is they were more worried about the potential violence from islam than positively portraying a child molester.
