More Democrats Blame Bombings On Sequester

From the Politico:

Boston Marathon Bombing: Congress reacts, Dems talk sequester

By JAKE SHERMAN | April 16, 2013

With the Boston Marathon bombings less than 24 hours old, some on Capitol Hill are beginning to say the attack shows why Congress should’ve stopped automatic spending cuts from taking hold in March.

House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), responding to a question at a Tuesday morning press conference, said the bombings are “clearly another place where it demonstrates why having the ability to address security concerns is important.”

Hoyer added: “I think there are multiple reasons for ensuring that we invest in our security both domestic and international security. That we invest in the education of our children, that we invest in growing jobs in America and don’t pursue any irrational policy of cutting the highest priorities and the lowest priorities by essentially the same percentage.”

The talking points memo has gone out. First we had Barney Frank make this claim. (Though he seemed to garble the message. But with Frank it’s always hard to tell.) Then Sheila Jackson-Lee made this charge.

And now we have Rep. Xavier Becerra, the chairman of the House Democratic Caucus and Steny Hoyer, who is the House Minority Whip, who he is second ranking Democrat in the House chiming in. What a party.

And never mind that the sequester was Obama’s idea. And never mind that Democrats insisted on the cut to defense and national security. And never mind that Obama had already cuts national security. Even, as we just noted, cutting in half the budget of the very agency that deals with domestic bombings.

Rep. Xavier Becerra of California, the chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, said that the first responders working Monday aren’t sheltered from cuts.

“We have to send you less money to help your first responders,” Becerra said.

How many Boston police and firemen and EMT are paid by the federal government? And let’s see how the less than 2% ‘cut’ in the sequester has affected them.

Moreover, if the Democrat run city of Boston thought it could not provide adequate security and medical support, than they had no business putting on the marathon in the first place.

A White House official said the sequester cuts “will not hamper” the response to the bombing, but decried the long-term effect.

“We are obviously concerned about the impact of the sequester on the short term operations and long term capabilities of federal agencies critical to the homeland security mission, and the impact these cuts will have on local governments,” the official said. “But over the past decade we have made significant investments to build response capabilities at the state and local level, as evidenced by the quick and coordinated response yesterday in Boston.” …

The Democrats need to pick a story and stick to it.

Wasn’t there a story published this week in which one Boston Marathon runner suspected a threat had been called in? The runner based this on the fact that there was more security present (bomb-sniffing dogs, rooftop surveilance, extra police presence, etc.) than he/she had ever seen in any other marathon, including New York, London, and previous Boston marathons. Doesn’t that first-hand empirical evidence contradict the baseless claims of the democrats?

I’ll tell you how to get to the bottom of this. Somebody should accuse Boston of not taking proper precautions. When Boston refutes that statement by laying out the precautions taken and how much they have improved security measures, you throw this in the face of the people blaming the sequester. Let the liberals eat each other.

Because we all know … not enough tax revenue makes right wing bombers mad …

    What’s that?

    We had advance warning?
Boston was conducting a ‘bomb drill’ at the time?
Arrests have already been made in Pakistan?
What the hell has that to do with taxation?

(hey, what’s wrong with my internet conne … )
