More Show Trials - Democrats Subpoena Miers
From an ever hopeful Associated Press:
Officials: Subpoenas for 2 ex-Bush aides
By LAURIE KELLMAN, Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON - Two congressional committees are issuing subpoenas for testimony from former White House counsel Harriet Miers and former political director Sara Taylor on their roles in the firings of eight federal prosecutors, according to two officials familiar with the investigation.
Democrats probing whether the White House improperly dictated which prosecutors the Justice Department should fire also are subpoenaing the White House for all relevant documents, said the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the move had not yet been formally made public.
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy of Vermont issued Taylor’s subpoena for her testimony July 11. His counterpart in the House, Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers of Michigan, issued a subpoena for Miers’ testimony the next day.
The White House has repeatedly refused to make current and former officials involved in the firings available except in private interviews, without transcripts. Congressional investigators have refused that offer.
“The committees can easily obtain the facts they want without a confrontation by simply accepting our offer for documents and interviews,”White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said Wednesday. “But it’s clear that Sen. Leahy and Rep. Conyers are more interested in drama than facts.” …
It will never end as long as the administration gives them the slightest cooperation.

Why don’t these people either invoke the Fifth Amendment, or the favorite standby of both parties:
I do not recall, Senator.
All they’re trying to do is troll for a cellmate for Libby.

Actually I like what VP Cheney said, but that is just me.

How do you prove that you have no information on an act that never happened????
Self serving, money-wasting (insert expletive here).
Can we solve actual problems now??? Like overloaded ERs, poor health care for our veterans, too many healthy people on welfare, rising interest rates and their effect on the stock market, is china manipulating the currency and adversely effecting our economy, why in the world is everyone complaining about the ending of the Sopranos?
Enough’s enough already!

I wish Bush would just step up and say “It was my decision. Case closed”.

The prosecutors serve at the pleasure of the White House. How can they ‘improperly’ dictate which ones are fired? Justice Department doesn’t make that decision.
Oops. That only applies when the President is a ‘Rat.
Does issuing ongoing subpoenas for a crime that didn’t happen constitute an impeachable offense?
June 13th, 2007 at 4:28 pm
OG…I don’t know about impeachable but it sure is waste, fraud, and abuse of taxpayer money. But our DoJ has the balls to make a case. Wouldn’t it be nice if all these ‘Rat investigations had to be funded by the senators and reps themselves? In this case there is nothing illegal. So therefore this investigation is, IMHO, no different than any other government employee taking advantage of their position for personal gain (”borrowing” office supplies, using phones/computers for personal use, government vehicles for personal use, etc.). I’m not that savvy about it, but I have to wonder if there isn’t a way to make them pay for frivolous investigations. Like a judge throwing out frivolous law suits. Does the Supreme Court have this authority? I don’t know, but somebody in our government should.

Come on this is just a way for the dnc operative (the msm) and the rotten Dem Congresscritters themselves to divert attention away from the failure (again) of their Criminal Illegal Aliens get more rights than American citizens ‘bill’ and to remind their stupid masses that evilbushilterburtonco is always and forever doing something ‘illegal’ -
It is just a vaste waste of taxpayer money - someone just might want to tally (GAO are you listening?!?) as to the actual cost to taxpayers of these stupid (and thus far failing ‘investigations’) and it should be put on the front page of every ‘news’ paper and lead story for every evening news - bet the MAJORITY of Americans would press for Term Limits, Salary Caps and Resignations within 24 hours!

Prosecution of this non-crime will continue until someone goes to prison. Just like Libby.
This is a waste of time. I’m damn sick of all the nonsense from Congress.
