More Than 1/3rd Of The US Now On Welfare

From the Weekly Standard:

Over 100 Million Now Receiving Federal Welfare

By DANIEL HALPER | Wednesday August 8, 2012

A new chart set to be released later today by the Republican side of the Senate Budget Committee details a startling statistic: "Over 100 Million People in U.S. Now Receiving Some Form Of Federal Welfare."

The number is actually 110 million (see below). According to the Census Bureau, the population of the United States as of July was 311,591,917. So more than a third of the population is now on welfare.

By the way, note that this information will never be reported by our mainstream media. It isn’t newsworthy.

"The federal government administers nearly 80 different overlapping federal means-tested welfare programs," the Senate Budget Committee notes.

Think of the amount of waste and fraud and ‘double dipping’ that goes on when you have so much overlap.

However, the committee states, the figures used in the chart do not include those who are only benefiting from Social Security and/or Medicare.

This is a very important point, since these kind of numbers are usually brushed away because ‘everybody wants to keep their Social Security and Medicare.’

Food stamps and Medicaid make up a large–and growing–chunk of the more than 100 million recipients. "Among the major means tested welfare programs, since 2000 Medicaid has increased from 34 million people to 54 million in 2011 and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, or food stamps) from 17 million to 45 million in 2011," says the Senate Budget Committee. "Spending on food stamps alone is projected to reach $800 billion over the next decade."

Meanwhile, the Obama administration is doing its best to expand both Food Stamps and Medicaid, and dependency in general. So we probably haven’t seen anything yet.

The data come "from the U.S. Census’s Survey of Income and Program Participation shows that nearly 110,000 million individuals received a welfare benefit in 2011. (These figures do not include other means-tested benefits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit or the health insurance premium subsidies included in the President’s health care law. CBO estimates that the premium subsidies, scheduled to begin in 2014, will cover at least 25 million individuals by the end of the decade.)"

This point about the ‘earned income credit’ and the Obama-Care subsidies is also noteworthy. The EIC is a major income shifter.

This is not just Americans, however. "These figures include not only citizens, but non-citizens as well," according to the committee.

Naturally. We cannot be heartless and deny benefits to people who have come to our country illegally.

In fact, the Obama administration is encouraging them to come. To grow the Democrat voter rolls.

So we now have two people pulling the cart and one riding in it. Soon we’ll have one pulling and two riding. All we need are a little more Nerobama and a little more immigration.

It’s all over but the shouting and the screaming.

Institute a 24 month cumulative lifetime cap on welfare. No welfare available to foreigners and illegal intruders. Station an INS agent at each office, ready to arrest any illegal intruder. These people should live in constant fear of arrest and deportation. Our government should not be creating “safe zones” where these people have no fear of consequences while these parasites pick our pockets. Oh, and if you’re on welfare, your name gets published in the local newspaper each month. Bring back shame!

Unfortunately, our very own Supreme Court says we gotta pay for those here illegally. Here’s their convoluted “logic”
“Over the past decade, the courts have acted to extend welfare eligibility to illegal aliens. It seems odd that people who have broken federal statutes and are not legal residents of the United States are nonetheless entitled to a host of benefits at taxpayers’ expense. There can be little doubt that the expansion of aliens’ ‘rights’ to include welfare is acting as a spur to more immigration, both legal and illegal.

A milestone in the continuing controversy over entitlements received by illegal aliens was the 1982 U.S. Supreme Court decision, Plyler v. Doe, which overturned a Texas law that denied school districts’ funds for the education of children who are themselves illegal aliens. The Texas law gave districts the option of denying them admission or of charging tuition.

In their 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court majority declared this sensible law unconstitutional on the basis that no state may ‘deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.’ This, however, does not mean that a state cannot treat different classes of people differently. The Court has upheld the right of particular states to charge residents of other states higher ‘non-resident’ tuition at public schools. In this case, the Court ruled that children who are residing in the country illegally have a right to free education paid for by the citizens of any state where they just happen to be living. The average per pupil cost in U.S. public schools is currently $4,800 annually, thus the total cost to taxpayers for educating the children of illegal aliens is running into billions of dollars. This figure does not take into account the extra costs for the bilingual education programs in which many of these students are enrolled.

Now this is something the Democrats can be proud of.
Why not use it for campaign commercials.
    How about this…
“has the last 4 years left you with no job, high tax’s and huge gas and food costs?
    Just go on the welfare.
    Its not hard.
Even non English speaking illegals can do it.
Let us all get together a build a better Socialist cradle to grave welfare State.

Paid for by the Democrat reelection committee.

    “As president,I endorse this message.”

So, the economy and jobs is 4 times worse under Obama.

I finally figured out what my son’s boss meant by the federal govt likes businesses to hire people to work one day a week.

Duh. It’s to make the job rates and employment go up.

National chain drug store up the street, cut their hours and have a sex offender working there to get the %40 paid by Obama for hiring a felon. What makes no sense is the closing of a major less expensive stores in the area, this pharmacy has more money than ever.
    Go figure.
