Prosecutors: Enraged by health reform, man threatens to kill Murray

Tuesday, April 6, 2010

A central Washington man was so enraged by the passage of federal health care reform that he threatened to kill U.S. Sen. Patty Murray, prosecutors charged Tuesday.

"I want to …. kill you," court documents say Charles Alan Wilson of Selah said in one of his foul-mouthed calls to Murray’s office.

"Kill the …. senator! Hang the …. senator! I hope somebody puts a …. bullet between your …. eyes," court documents say he said in another call.

Wilson, 64, was charged Tuesday morning with threatening a federal official. He was undone, in part, by an FBI agent who posed as being with a group that wanted to repeal health-care reform…

The criminal complaint says Wilson called Murray’s office multiple times between March 22 and April 4 and left threatening messages.

Congress approved health-care reform on March 21. On March 22, a staffer in Murray’s Seattle office began to record and save the messages that court documents say Wilson left.

"It only takes one piece of lead….Kill the ….. senator! Kill the …. senator! I’ll donate the lead," court documents say he said in the first recorded and saved message.

Charging documents note more than a dozen calls, including five on March 23. That was the day President Obama signed health-care reform into law…

On April Fool’s Day, an undercover agent called Wilson, pretending to be a representative of Patients United Now, a group that wanted health-care reform repealed. Wilson agreed to have the call recorded.

The FBI compared that recording with the messages at Murray’s office and concluded that Wilson left the messages, court documents say.

During the call with the FBI agent, Wilson said he hated health-care reform and that he called Murray and her fellow Washington Democrat, Sen. Maria Cantwell, every day.

He called them both "Pike Street whores," which is a phrase that court documents say was used in the messages left at Murray’s office.

He allegedly told undercover FBI agents that he regularly carries a gun and that he has a concealed-weapons permit.

The FBI confirmed that Wilson has a concealed weapons permit and owns a .38-caliber revolver.

If convicted of threatening a federal official, he could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison and fined as much as $250,000.

We only note that what we have read from the indictment (available here as a pdf file), the kook Mr. Evans never directly threatened Senator Murray. Instead, he repeatedly says that he hopes someone will kill her. Which of course is plenty bad enough.

But we are sure such a thing never happened to President Bush or any other GOP politician — especially those who supported the Iraq War. Otherwise, we would have heard all about them from our watchdog media.

(However it must be noted, as we were the first to report, once upon a time the illustrious Mr. John Kerry was involved with people who wanted to kill seven US Congressmen because they supported the war in Vietnam.)

Still, we find it interesting how Mr. Evans indentifies his politics in the message transcribed in the indictment and posted above. (And carefully ignored by the Seattle PI reporter.)

Indeed, we somehow we doubt that we ever hear these details from our media masters.

Excellent point, Steve. About John Kerry and his plot to kill.

And Rupert Murdoch is certain he can force me to buy ‘news’ that fails in every way to bring these matters to light in context.

And, somewhere in there, the democrats are probably baffled as to what this individual is so angry about, as we simultaneously must embrace radical islam and try harder to understand their anger.

In a lot of ways, I’m glad to see such unfiltered anger levied onto those who are working against the will of the people. Not that I support any violence but it has to be pointed out, threats do not a violent act make. Another point of order that the liberal left has managed to warp into unsubstantiated fear. I do not condone the making of threats though people are expressing their anger.

We must remember that saying a thing is different than doing a thing.

Many states have even dropped “verbal assault” as a charge in their legal systems as we still have the right to speak freely.

If one person is this angry then surely, there are others.

If only we could learn to live as peacefully as do the sainted residents of and descendents of people from Africa and Arabia.

Nutjob leaves threatening messages on Senator Justamomintennisshoes phone and he could get jail time and a fine but Rahm Dead Fish Emanuel can stand up at a banquet and read off names of government officials, stab the table with a steak knife and shout “Dead!” and nothing happens?

The thing is, the Left is scared sh*tless of the Tea Party and the Independents and moderate Democrats it has siphoned off from the “Democratic Party”. There are no “moderate Democrats in that party anymore…not in any meaningful positions of power. It’s been completely hijacked by the Far Left, and the moderates and independents aren’t stupid….they can see this clearly.

The attacks from the media and the DNC calling the Tea Party “extreme” and pushing outright lies about it will backfire on them.

The really “funny” thing about it all, is the Left is postured so much like King George was back in the 1770s. We all know how that worked out for him.

    Oh great!

For every million solid citizens we have in the conservative and/or Tea Party movement 1…read that 1…nut job will come up with this garbage…but are they recognized for what they are?…NUTS…or will all the rest of us be cursed to wear that badge?

We know the answer to that

However…the left can have multitudes of foul mouths spewing filth and threats on the leftie blogs…but they are only a “few” who are only reacting to the evil conservatives. We should understand how our conservative values are oppressing them…We should change…because they are “offended”.

Hmmm. At sixty-four years of age, this guy just may have found out his own way of scamming the new “health care” system.

Ha, good point. He will be deceased in perhaps 10 years, have no money anyway, and not want to pay into health care. He may as well go to prison now and save himself the trouble later!

I wonder how many Rush Limbaugh gets every day? Probably none, leftists are peaceful and open-minded people. . .

  9. Liberals Demise says:

Does this mean the “nuclear” option isn’t pointed at us?

    I mean… think about it.

  10. LewWaters says:

While I don’t condone the outrage expressed, I have to wonder where such due diligence was during the Bush years and of the “Kill Bush” rhetoric that covered the country?

  11. chainsaw says:

I hope the courts set a precedence and find this crazy nutjob guilty of foul mouthed language. There’s a lot more threatening language from leftist RNC busting code pink commies than real tea party patriots. Hard to believe the FBI considers a conceal carry permit and a 38 handgun a serious threat. Now if this guy bought a one way plane ticket or drove cross-country without a travel bag, maybe…just maybe there would be something to report here. In the words of the mortal Joe Biden….BFD.

Our government needs to protect her citizens better, No phone access allowed for seniors.

Didn’t they already make a movie about this, “Charlie Wilson’s War?”
