Murtha Gets Distinguished Service Award

Some how we missed this news. The media seems to have been strangely mute about it.

But it was trumpeted proudly on Mr. Murtha’s taxpayer funded website:

Murtha Awarded the Department of the Navy ‘Distinguished Public Service Award’

March 5, 2009

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman John P. Murtha, Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, was presented this week with the Department of the Navy’s Distinguished Public Service Award. The award, granted by the Secretary of the Navy, is the highest form of public service recognition bestowed by the Department of the Navy for a non-employee. It consists of a gold medal, miniature medal, lapel bar, rosette, and a certificate signed by the Secretary.

According to the Department, “nominations for this award will be limited to those extraordinary cases where individuals have demonstrated exceptionally outstanding service of substantial and long term benefit to the Navy, Marine Corps, or as Department of the Navy as a whole.” Murtha was presented with the award in appreciation of his distinguished public service to the Department of the Navy.

“I’m proud of the service and sacrifices our troops are making, and I’m honored to receive this distinguished award from the Navy,” commented Murtha. “We have an obligation to ensure that our men and women in uniform have the most modern equipment, effective training, first-class medical care, and family advocacy resources.”

The Citation reads:

“Congressman Murtha’s selfless devotion to the Nation’s Sailors and Marines ensured they were provided the resources necessary to effectively conduct the Global War on Terrorism. His courageous leadership, vision, and loyalty to the men and women of the Department of the Navy greatly contributed to their quality of life and helped create the most modern and highly trained fighting force in history. As Chairman of Subcommittee on Defense of the House Appropriations Committee, Congressman Murtha’s tireless advocacy helped maintain the Navy and Marine Corps team at the highest levels of combat readiness to meet the challenges of the 21st century. With grateful appreciation for his outstanding contributions to the Nation and the Navy and Marine Corps, Congressman Murtha is awarded the Department of the Navy Distinguished Public Service Award.”

The certificate of award is signed by Donald C. Winter, the 74th Secretary of the Navy. Secretary Winter was nominated by President George W. Bush and was sworn into office on January 3, 2006.

This traitor (and thief) should be behind bars.

Instead, the Obama administration has seen fit to reward Mr. Murtha for his tireless perfidy against our troops – and especially the Marines (who, of course are a branch of the Navy), with the second highest award the Navy can bestow upon a civilian.

Weirdly enough, this award was given to Mr. Murtha by a Bush-appointed Secretary of the Navy. But as he was retiring, perhaps he had his eye on a nice consulting job with one of those defense firms run by Mr. Murtha’s relatives, former staff and other pals.

We don’t usually post or encourage petitions here, but in this case we will make an exception.

If you want to express your outrage you can read it and, if so inclined, sign it here.

This is just another award like the Nobel Peace Prize that has lost all credibility. What a damn shame.

  2. wardmama4 says:

Gag me with a spoon – My only thought is that they are doing this just before Murtha’s substantial a** goes on trial –

Don’t forget 1 of the Marine’s has a civil lawsuit against him – and doesn’t he have an investigation about to explode in his face?!?

Nothing like timing to imply to the stupid masses that this liar, cheat, disgrace to everyone who ever wore and is wearing the Anchor, Globe & Eagle, CodePinkolackymouthpiece, and porkulus extrordinaire is just a great guy.

As I said – Gag me with a spoon – I signed the petition.

  3. sheehanjihad says:

There is no doubt that this fat mouthed pig’s efforts to steer taxpayer dollars to any industry that has the money to afford his price would get this so called award. He is disgusting, and my Navy has given all of us a black eye trying to keep this thieving liar happy. Eventually, this absolutely corrupt skin covered POS will get the award he deserves….the most overweight new inmate at Leavenworth. Look up feces in the dictionary. His picture is there.

  4. proreason says:

Surely the people who gave him this award did so with the intent of causing a public furor over it.

Either that, or the Department of Navy has been infiltrated by foreign agents.

DON is a mess at certain levels…enough said…

  8. Liberals Demise says:

After reading the citation I was left with a wad of bile in the back of my throat.
All here who have seen my posts of this worthless, self gratifing, chunk of monkey spunk know that I am appalled he continues to call himself a “Marine”.
There ain’t enough Chap Stik in the world to keep ones’ lips from blistering after the reading of that “Citation” and the ass kissing that followed.
What a waste of skin and space!

  9. TwilightZoned says:

When I first read the title I thought it said, “Murtha Get Diminished Service Award.” Guess it was wishful thinking.

  10. catie says:

Well I signed it. This sure isn’t my grandfather or father’s Navy. Well the “Blue Star for Obummer” family that lives next door dumped their 19 y/o loser daughter into the USN. She couldn’t get into the Army, the Marines and didn’t bother with the Air Force but she did get into the Navy.

  11. Weasel says:

I’m sure his committee chairmanship had noting to do with it…
Isn’t this the same Navy that has named ships and subs after politicians who control military budgets?
And the same Navy that tried to create a hero by giving John F-ing Kerry some medals during an unpopular war…

Don’t get me wrong, I love our military, but politics are politics and any ploy to increase your budget or popularity in DC is just another trick in the book. But after what this clown has done slandering our Marines, it is especially sickening…

  12. 12 Gauge Rage says:

LD, you didn’t hear the comments they made to proceed the citation. “For criticism, and screwing over your fellow marines and other servicemen above and beyond the pale, you are hereby awarded the Double Cross of Benedict Arnold.”

  13. 12 Gauge Rage says:

LD, I plead ignorance. What is a Nasty Sanchez?

    • Liberals Demise says:

It’s the same as a “Dirty Sanchez”.
Mr. Gilbert would frown on my answer……so…..I’ll just say it stinks and leave it at that!!

  14. 12 Gauge Rage says:

LD, I just Googled what the term meant. You’re right, it ain’t a pleasant thing. Good call at keeping it clean.
