Murtha Records Released – One Week Late

From the Washington Times:

FBI releases Murtha records

By Jim McElhatton

May 25, 2010

The FBI on Tuesday released hundreds of pages of records concerning late Pennsylvania Democratic Congressman John Murtha, but declined to make public any information about an ongoing investigation into allegations of kickbacks involving defense contractors.

The FBI released 24 pages of news articles involving the investigation into defense contractors that received millions of dollars in "earmarks", but said the "bulk" of the materials on the probe must remain sealed.

"As this investigative file is still in ‘pending status’, the bulk of the file’s FBI documents are not releasable until the conclusion of the investigation" the FBI said in releasing the Murtha documents on its Web site Tuesday morning.

Would it be cynical to question the timing of this release? Could this information have had any influence on last Tuesday’s elections in Mr. Murtha’s former district?

Where one of his longtime aides won his seat?

The Washington Times, among others, filed a request for the FBI documents mentioning Mr. Murtha under the Freedom of Information Act after his death at age 77 in February

Many of the documents released Tuesday were redacted, the FBI said, to protect "personal privacy, sources of information and material under court seal".

Murtha’s name had surfaced repeatedly in connection with the ongoing federal probe into defense contractors that gave Mr. Murtha and other members of Congress campaign donations. In 2009, the FBI raided the PMA Group, a lobbying firm by a former aide of Mr. Murtha. The firm lobbied for defense contractors that won federal funding through earmarks, or special spending requests made by Mr. Murtha and other members of Congress.

But don’t worry, we won’t hear another word about alleged Mr. Murtha’s corruption.

After all, the man is a hero. A Democrat hero.

…..”After all, the man is a hero. A Democrat hero……”

Exactly. Mr. Murtha’s corruption, and the fact that he escaped unpunished, is what gives him hero status. And the fact that he was a democrat.

John Murtha was a loathsome man. He had no honor.

  3. Right of the People says:

And the FBI is under what federal department?

That wouldn’t happen to be Eric Holder’s Justice Department would it?

    Just thought I’d ask.

Murtha is what is wrong with our Government – most especially that even as his turncoat lies on Marines in combat became evident as the lies they were – he got re-elected. However I think that his death was just the beginning of payback for a man who turned on the Marines, pretended to not take bribes while handing out bribes back home for assurance of being re-elected and then turning on our Armed Forces while they were in combat (remember this guy voted YEA for Action in Iraq in Oct 2002 and then spent the rest of the years not funding what he voted FOR) – the only guy serving time from the Haditha incident is the Sailor who turned prosecution witness. [Bet he really regrets that decision now] Murtha was the lowest of the low – and good riddance to bad rubbish.

Under the Thug Administration I expect nothing to come of any ‘investigation’ into any Dem or Union or ‘community’ organization or minority group – no matter what they do, no matter what they are accused of. At. All. Ever.

However probably every Tea Partier and Republican has their files and life under extreme scrutiny at this very moment.

Not to defend Murtha, but he was basically just a common criminal. He wasn’t trying to change the world, He was just a guy out for himself who was totally devoid of ethics or morals.

We’ve had criminals like him forever. Contemptable as he was, there are worse…..the idealogues.

If a $1,000 was sitting on a desk in an empty room, Murtha would take it in a heartbeat without a moments thought, and the boy king probably would not.

But the boy king is a thousand times more dangerous than Murtha could ever have conceived of being.

The Murthas of this world gave birth to the Obamas of this world. Just imagine what the Obamas will spawn.

In his own way and in his own time, Murtha was just as dangerous to the Republic, for if not for him and his like, Obama could never have ascended to power.

I’m not sorry he’s dead. The shame of it is that the grim reaper didn’t get him sooner.

He was nothing short of a despicable turd who sullied the uniform that I wore with pride. I wouldn’t have crossed the street and pi$$ed on him if he was standing there on fire!

      What a disgusting puke!!

      I second your thoughts.

  5. Liberals Make Great Speedbumps says:

What made Murtha truly despicable wasn’t the fact that he was an ex-Marine, it was that he was a PROUD ex-Marine. A true POS that died many years too late and far too peacefully.

It’s common knowledge that all of these government agencies are run by and for career Democrats, so regardless of who sits in the White House, they will release reports or launch investigations (i.e. – invoke search warrants) AFTER an election when its target is a Democrat and usually 2 weeks BEFORE an election if the target is a Republican.

Happened to Curt Weldon (Rep., PA) who was the Congressman for the 7th District. The FBI made invoked a search warrant a few weeks before the Nov 2006 elections, with the polls in his race with Joe Sestak near even. Needless to say Weldon lost the election.

It’s been over 2 years since then & no indictments, nothing on this case. Yet is was so urgent at the time. It stunk to high heaven then, worse now.
