Musharraf Resigns - Media, Terrorists Win!

From a joyeux Agence France-Presse:

Musharraf resigns as Pakistan president

by Masroor Gilani

ISLAMABAD (AFP) - Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf resigned on Monday, bringing down the curtain on a turbulent nine years in power to avoid the first impeachment in the nuclear-armed nation’s history.

The key US ally, who seized power in a 1999 coup, announced the move in a lengthy televised address, rejecting the charges against him but saying he wanted to spare Pakistan a damaging battle with the ruling coalition.

The departure of the former general set off wild celebrations at home, yet it was far from certain what would come next for a nation whose role in the “war on terror” has been increasingly questioned by Washington.

“After viewing the situation and consulting legal advisers and political allies, with their advice I have decided to resign,” Musharraf, wearing a sober suit and tie, said near the end of his one-hour address.

“I leave my future in the hands of the people.”

Coalition leaders Asif Ali Zardari, the widower of slain ex-premier Benazir Bhutto, and Nawaz Sharif, who was ousted by Musharraf in 1999, were shown shaking hands and smiling after his speech but gave no immediate reaction…

The president said he would give his formal resignation to the speaker of parliament later Monday. Senate chairman Mohammedmian Soomro will act as as caretaker president until an election, which is expected in the next few weeks…

Of course this is not only a stunning and utter victory for the Taliban and Al Qaeda, but also quite a feather in the cap of their allies in our media and the Democrats.

The rational among us will regret this day for a very long time.

“After the martyrdom of my mother I said that democracy was the best revenge — and today it was proved true,” said Bhutto’s 19-year-old son, Bilawal.

This is the preposterous situation in a nutshell.

Not only did Benazir Bhuto and her husband rob Pakistan blind, she also was instrumental in the rise of the Taliban. And still they killed her.

Yet her idiot son takes their side, and even blames their enemies for his mother’s death.

If Pakistan weren’t so vitally important to the war on terror it would be easy to laugh at what they are bringing upon themselves.

There really does seem to be something inherently defective in the minds of so many Muslims.

Anyway, we still wonder if this means that President Obama will bomb Pakistan — like he promised he would if Mr. Musharraf were overthrown.

Will our watchdog media even ask him?

He’s gone and the terrorists are celebrating.

    From an equally jubilant AP:

    Musharraf resigns as Pakistan president

    By Zarar Khan

Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf announced Monday that he will resign, just days ahead of impeachment in parliament over attempts by the U.S.-backed leader to impose authoritarian rule on his turbulent nation.

An emotional Musharraf said he wanted to spare Pakistan from a dangerous power struggle.

“I hope the nation and the people will forgive my mistakes,” Musharraf said in a televised address largely devoted to defending his record.

Musharraf dominated Pakistan for years after seizing power in a 1999 military coup, making the country a key strategic ally of the U.S. by supporting the war on terror. But his popularity at home sank over the years.

But his influence has faded steadily over the past year. He quit the pivotal post of army chief in November and his resignation was widely forecast.

Washington and European capitals will hope his removal will let the civilian government focus on terrorism and the country’s economic woes, though Musharraf’s exit could also trigger a struggle to replace him.

Pakistan’s stock market and currency both rose strongly on hopes that the country was bound for political stability. Television footage showed groups of people celebrating in the streets in several towns across Pakistan, some of them firing automatic weapons into the sky.

In his hour-long address, Musharraf said he would turn in his resignation to the National Assembly speaker Monday. It was not immediately clear whether it would take effect the same day. Mohammedmian Soomro, the chairman of the upper house of parliament, was poised to take over in the interim.

It remains an open question whom parliament will elect to succeed Musharraf, partly because the ruling coalition has vowed to strip the presidency of much of its power.

There is speculation that both Asif Ali Zardari and Nawaz Sharif, the leaders of the two main parties, are interested in the role. However, neither has openly said so.

It was also unclear whether Musharraf would stay in Pakistan or go into exile. …

Now if only they can get Bush and Cheney to do the same, it would really be party time.

This is a very dangerous situation. And where is the discussion on the news and questions to BO about it? This is far more important than “how can our government reach out to more people in need” kind of crap. The Taliban may well get its hands on nuclear weapons. Then what?

Not only the Taliban - bet you (if he is still alive) we see the elusive OBL once again since that is where he’s been hiding out - imagine the Taliban and al-Qaeda joining together with a nuke.

And add the final worse case senario - Obamanation wins in Nov.
9/11 will be a good day compared to what is ahead.

I will tell you what. A city in the United States will awaken to dual sunrises. People will be confused until they see that one of the suns also has a towering cloud. Under that cloud will be what remains of a vibrant population of normal people…..now dead and dying for Islam.

Now it isnt a matter of if….it is a matter of when. They will strike as soon as it is humanly possible. While we fret about useless issues like global warming…..they will do more in one instant than we could in a lifetime to help prevent it.

They will stop the US economy dead in it’s tracks. The CO2 emissions that supposedly were going to destroy the world will be replaced by radioactive plutonium that will do it a lot quicker and more thoroughly. Al Gore will be proud!

Environmentalists will smile. democrats will smile. Leftists will smile. They will have won. Until they realize there is no place for them under sharia law. Then, Useful idiots by the thousands will be the executions of the week at local stadiums.

Muslims need victims to survive as muslims. There will be a dirth of victims available after they strike. Thank a liberal for what is going to happen. Then kill the bastard for allowing it to get this far.

SJ, that may be true, but rest assured Obama’s “dialogues” would ensure it wouldn’t happen again.

Because we’d simply give them anything they want.
