As you have probably heard, 138 Muslim scholars have written a letter to Pope Benedict XVI and the other Christian leaders worldwide.
Here is an excerpt of the greeting from the letter (pdf file), and its concluding exhortation.
Some have taken it as a veiled threat. But judge for yourself:
I had tried to convert the pdf into a text file I could post here. But, perhaps fittingly, it refused to convert.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the more I think about this story (thanks for posting it, by the way), the more I think that Iran’s illustrious Ahmadinejad I’m-A-Nutjob wrote the Pope not too long ago, asking for his conversion.
If I’m right, isn’t this the “second warning”? If so, isn’t the next step all-out war? Can someone clarify that Islamic teaching, please?
The letter clearly calls for Christians - who are monotheists, but who (by a vast majority) believe in the Holy Trinity - to shun that belief in favor of a “one God”, and that “we shall ascribe no partner” to him. Clearly a denial of Christ, Christ’s divinity and dual nature as true God and true man, and the Holy Spirit.
In short, they’re calling on Christians to deny the very thing that makes them Christian - Christ.
They quote the Bible, clearly for their own purposes, with the tone that they don’t really believe it but wish to instill a false sense of security in those the letter is directed to (lying or misrepresenting one’s intentions, which is not only permissable, but encouraged under Islamic teaching).
This sends up red flags for me. BIG RED FLAGS.
Once in a while I get this horrible feeling that there are millions of sleeper cells of jihadists waiting for signal and that - once that signal comes - they’ll rise up and we’ll be powerless to stop the caliphate and worldwide shari’a law. Perhaps I’m overreacting, but doesn’t it seem like a very plausible scenario?

“meaningful peace”
Such a nice phrase, one that “Peace-At-Any-Pricers” don’t seem to think about when they have their quaint little marches and protests. After all, what good is peace without justice? Wait, I forgot, peace without justice isn’t peace, it’s oppression. You’d think some of these socialists would remember that, it’s been their montra for well over a century now. Not that it matters, I hardly think the clerics’ version of “meaningful peace” is anything Westerners would accept. Then again, I may be wrong given the diversity fetish this country keeps masturbating too. I doubt it will be long before Paris Hilton sports a hot pink burkha to show solidarity with Muslim women, or maybe Britney will volunteer for a public stoning, or let Kevin bump her off to save his “honor.”
As for the rest of the letter, you’re right EQ, it basically says Christians can only have peace with Muslims when they stop being Christians and start being Muslims. You know, “meaningful peace.” Wow, how original, it’s the same message Christians have been hearing for centuries. But Islam, arrogant in its stagnation, will react in shock and horror and of course jihad to the horrible insult of rejection.
One last point…

I’m surprised they’d admit, even in so subtle a fashion, that there are far more Christians in the world than Muslims. Maybe we should write an open letter to Rosie O’Donnell, asking her why, if Christians are indeed just as dangerous as Muslims, and if there are more Christians in the world than Muslims, where then are the daily bombings, shootings, kidnappings, and other assorted acts of mayhem committed by Christians?
Wait, I know!

I2004, you’re missing the obvious point:
If there are more Christians than Muslims, any anger the Muslims express towards Christians is obviously due to the majority’s oppression of a minority, and thus is only a means to “open a dialogue” on the hostile attitude Christians have shown towards Muslims for thousands of years.

AFAIK, they only have to ask you to convert once. But I could be wrong about that.
But, you know, I’ve never seen any evidence that the terrorists are any too bothered with Islamic niceties. Or, for that matter, most Muslims — when the rubber hits the road.
I saw a news story (which I should have posted) about how an Egyptian cleric has issued a fatwa so that people can continue to smoke during Ramadan if they are “addicted” to tobacco.
So much for sacrifice.
I think the widespread popularity of “temporary marriages” tells you all you need to know about how vigorously the perfect guide that is the Koran is actually followed.

Nothing new under the sun . Haven’t the lib-tards in this country issued the same statements . Be ” US ” or else . ” Meaningful peace ” . I’ll take what ever ” else ” means . Last weekend the Swede , the Norwegian , the foul-mouth German and myself had a ( few ) beers in the garage . All from different back grounds and religions . NO SWORD PLAY . Not once did anybody try to kill the other .
