I agree with a lot of his beliefs. That’s why I decided to check his show out. However I just cannot handle how over the top he is. I mean jeez, would you want to sit down and have a beer with him? He’d likely be the guy that gets you in a fight at the local bar because of his mouth.

I don’t have any problem with men or women expressing emotion. Heck, I’ve cried when having pets euthanized. My problem mainly with his display was that it looked absolutely staged. How ridiculously over the top the hype was for that special didn’t help matters either IMO. Maybe he was sincere, but it certainly didn’t appear that way to me. The only display of emotion by a man I can think of offhand that looked more insincere was BJ Bill leaving Ron Brown’s funeral when he suddenly noticed the cameras were on him.

Assuming the data is correct (always a risk), you can see there are several indicators showing that GLOBALLY, today is worse, faster than the 30’s.

In the US, on the other hand, things are better than elsewhere, which might be the root of some US Economists having more optimistic outlooks. Sowell is my favorite, and I quote him a lot, and I would be really curious to hear his take on the global economy at the moment.

Who knows for sure? I was just saying there are seemingly rational people who believe that at this point in time, a case can be made that things are worse globally than in the 30’s.

I don’t have an economics or finance background so I’m forced to rely on the expertise of others to understand what is happening in our economy and markets. The problem is who to trust. There is too much politics, too many agendas and too little honest objectivity.

For instance, I find it more than suspicious when someone first predicts a depression and then appears in a gold commercial.

Many indicators show the global economy right now is as bad or worse than at an equivalent time from the start of the Great Depression.

The Great Depression got its name because it lasted a lot longer than 18 months Nobody really knows whether today’s economy will deteriorate or when it will improve.

But comparing today’s situation to the Great Depression isn’t nutty, just based on comparison data.

And also, some things you hear about the 30’s had a different measurement basis than today. For example, unemployment did not exclude “discouraged workers”. If our 8.5% was measured on the same basis as during the 30’s, it would be much higher than 8.5%.

The fact CNN booted him is directly responsible for their abysmal ratings and death spin financially.

All of us (who work that is) can appreicate a guy, who much like ourselves, would love to leave a hostile work place that keeps you down – to find a better situation where you are allowed to flourish and earn results.

I don’t always agree with him – but have a great deal of respect for his accomplishments. I started my own business for the very same reasons (as have many folks at S&L) and will never look back.

Beck has been more outspoken against illegal immigrants than any other news anchor. He said on one of his first Fox shows, that pursuing the issue on illegal immigrants is what got him canned.

Mr. Beck was not ahead of the curve on the financial meltdown. A handful of financial analysts in the private sector were.

Mr. Beck, however, was the first person I heard interpreting the current financial crisis as the coming of the next Great Depression. Interestingly, Mr. Beck changed his mind about the financial armageddon when Bear Stearns was bailed out in 2008. Then, when the stock market crumpled again in late 2008, Mr. Beck changed his “beautiful mind” once again and went back to the whole Great Depression-thing.

This isn’t being ahead of the curve. It’s bad guessing gone amuck.

As for the psychic thing, I don’t think Mr. Beck thinks he is. However, he has stated that he sees things differently than everyone else does; hence, he has a “beautiful mind.” In other words, Mr. Beck fancies himself a savant.

Speaking of savants, most bipolars think of themselves in this way. I’ve never heard Mr. Beck say he was bipolar, but he sure behaves that way.

As for the other political issues you mentioned, I can’t comment because I’m not a regular listener.

If you like him, it’s your perogative. I prefer someone level-headed and emotionally stable. I also don’t equate emotional stability with “sitting on their ass.”

One of the Repubs’ problems is that they think they need to act above the fray, whereas the Dems are so committed to their lunacy that they will kill their mothers to implement it. Maintaining calm works great in many situations, but it seems to me the Repub calm is lack of passion rather than steely resolve.

Beck is passionate and he’s right a high percentage of the time. I like him. He’s behind Rush (league of his own) and Levin, in my ratings, and before Hannity (who beats the same drum a bit too much). I like Laura as well. Hewitt and Benett are interesting, but they are above the fray guys too frequently. But all of them, and others, are talented to be able to sustain a show like they do for hours.
