Muslim Women Escape UK Hygiene Rules

From the UK’s Daily Mail:

NHS relax superbug safeguards for Muslim staff: Women can now cover up with long-sleeved uniforms despite health warning

By Daily Mail Reporter
12 April 2010

Muslim doctors and nurses are to be allowed to wear long sleeves for religious reasons – despite the risk of spreading deadly superbugs.

The Department of Health will allow female Muslim staff to opt out of a strict NHS dress code to cover their arms and protect their modesty.

But campaigners warn that the NHS is putting lives at risk because guidance that all staff should be ‘bare below the elbow’ was introduced after long sleeves were blamed for spreading MRSA.

The change has been brought in after some female Muslims objected to being forced to bare their arms on wards. The Department of Health has also relaxed its no jewellery [sic] rule to let Sikhs wear their Kara bangles as long as they can be pushed up to the elbow when dealing with patients.

The policy is in stark contrast to the treatment of nurse Shirley Chaplin who last week lost her discrimination battle against Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital Trust which claimed the cross she wore round her neck was a ‘hazard’ in case it scratched patients.

Last night she accused the NHS of ‘double standards.’ She added: ‘What can you say? It seems that life is stacked up against Christians these days.’ …

We have known for sometime that this was coming to the UK.

But how long before we enjoy these kind of special carve-outs under Obama-care?

Muslim? Hygiene? In the same sentence?

Liberal leniency is and will be tested to the extreme when it comes to the hard-headedness of Islam.

What Christians need to learn is to let Muslims set the rules, then follow them when the spineless liberals crumble in fear of retaliation. Never go first, go 2nd and ride the coattails.

In Western countries, ironically, Islam will pave the way for tolerance of Christians against the double-standards of liberal fascism. Read that again, and just contemplate how truly backwards things have become.

    Never go first, go second?
Islam pave the way for tolerance of Christians?
Amazing, it appears that Our Dear Leader has taken time away from screwing the country to post in Sweetness and Light!
NEVER let Muslims set the rules or you will be lucky to go second, especially since Muslims have no tolerance for anyone else!

This is a smoke screen on several levels and the NHS knows it.

First catering to Muslims on hygiene is just nuts. If I am a patient there I must accept filth because they get to dress oddly?

But having said the obvious, the NHS has (or should have…) plastic covers for all kinds of machinery in the OR or treatment rooms that are changed between patients to protect patients.

How much can it cost to have available plastic sheaths for these muslims to wear on their sleeves? The NHS provides (or should provide) gloves, why not plastic sleeve covers? Even the doctors should wear them if they have sleeves.

Here in the US MRSA was traced directly to the doctors who go from room to room touching and treating patients without washing in between. (Because we all know those nasty germs don’t dare hitch a ride on a DOCTOR)

Oh? What’s that you say…? The NHS doesn’t have the money..? It must cut corners? Oh goodie! Now we can look forward to the same in the future to this world class care now with Obalmy care.

As far as the NHS is concerned they are using this as a convenient excuse for their poor infection control.

When patients families complain that they must wash the human material off the beds their family member are in and must clean up used gauze and other debris off the floor and the housekeeping uses dirty mops from one room to the other in the hospitals….I believe sleeves are the least of their problems.

One that is so easily fixed with plastic arm covers….though quite honestly one that should NOT be accommodated in the first place.

In the end the NHS goal is to find someone other than themselves to blame for their filthy hospitals. Who better than the highly unpopular muslims.

Excellent point jobeth. Surgeons already wear full-length paper gowns, headdress, gloves, shoe covers and masks. Furthermore, they’re waterproof and roomy enough to hide an IED! (Just kidding. They’re roomy enough for two.)

I do take issue with blaming MRSA on the doctors. The patients grow MRSA. Doctors only carry the bug from patient to patient as unwitting and all too innocent hosts . . . as do unwitting and all too innocent nurses, techs and therapists. :-)

    • jobeth says:

      Hey there confucius!

As a critical care Respiratory Therapist we were constantly being blamed for carrying the MRSA bug from patient to patient.

We knew we weren’t because none of us ever failed to wash our hands between our patients…All I can say is Yuk….My hands stayed so dry from all the washing. My husband to this very day thinks I’m anal about hand washing. If our beloved pets get petted…I’m washing my hands…lol

Anyway…I mentioned doctors because on at least two occasions during my 5 year stint at one hospital…a couple years apart….(new residents…as we were a teaching hospital) they did a clandestine observation of anyone who went between patients…and they said they thought it was RT because the nurses only had a max of 3 pts. It ended up being the docs…both times. Oops!

I think you might agree there are two times residents think (and sometimes act) like they are above it all is their first year as resident…till they find out the staff usually knows more than they do…and their last year….when they feel like they know everything. Then they go out on their own,,,and realize once again they have lots to learn….lol

Happens to nurses and RTs too. We had new grads come in and think they were smarter than all the rules. A time or two of going home with a few bugs and they soon get the message.

Good talking to you again! ;-D

    • confucius says:

      Hi jobeth.

Between all the handwashing and powdered latex gloves, my hands are constantly dry, chaffed and irritated. (Ironically, this increases my risk of infection.)

If you want to find “bugs” in a hospital, swab the bed controls, door knobs and air vents.

If you want a “superbug,” go to the OR and swab the surgical light fixtures–i.e. the ones hovering over the patient. They’re usually covered with dust mixed in with someone else’s blood, amniotic fluid and bone dust.

    • jobeth says:

You’re right there…and take a closer look at the side rails on the beds…and the ER gurneys. Some real good joo joos there…very often.

We aren’t nearly as bad as the NHS but there are tons of room for improvement right here in the US.

I’m going to hate to see the downturn if Obama care isn’t repealed. I was reading some of the comments on one of the pages I noted above and they said the NHS removed the “matron”s and replaced most of the “RN” level nurses with basically nurses aids…who either didn’t have the education to do an adequate job or as we find in some nursing homes…those who don’t want to bother…all in the name of cutting costs.

Sad to say we are trending that even now. BEFORE Obama care. There are fewer RNs on the floors and more non professionals giving care. The RN supervises and gives meds. to more and more patients. All to save on costs. But you really can’t blame it all on the hospitals either. They are in a crunch themselves.

They noted that once the NHS brought “business” money mangers into the mix…the hospitals became a place that people begged to not have to go into. One woman said her mother begged not to go in…was taken in anyway…and died from unattended infected bed sores. I read also of a “nurse” who said that the patient’s family was at fault for not washing their family member instead of complaining that she was dirty.

Soon we could be like third world hospitals where we bring in food for our sick family members.

Oh…and we can say good bye to the trend toward all private rooms…where infection contraction is lessened. In the UK…most patients are in large wards…all the better to spread those bugs.

We have a lot to fix and work on here in the US…but it will only worsen with Obama care. Just look around the world.

Oh yeah, that cross is a public safety issue. I see where this is going – straight to 1984, a land of prohibitive morons and tyrants. We must protect you from thinking.

Really, the oppression of the majority, of the culturally intact Western mind has no bounds. It is an attack on non-Muslims, who are not given special rights.

Surely Muslim women are not stupid enough to take “forearm modesty” more seriously than super bugs. Hey, patient A has a higher risk of death, but that’s fine because the patient didn’t sexualize my elbow. Uh-huh. Are they for real?

  6. canary says:

It’s insane. I’m sure the muslims will change clothes before they go home and hug their children. They should have to pay to put on disposable attire & gloves they must pay for themselves, or be fired for endangerment of patients.

  7. sheehanjihad says:

if a muslim insists on wearing potentially germ ridden clothing out of religious conviction, then I will insist they stay the f*ck away from me out of common sense conviction, and if they persist, I will end up with an assault conviction. Religious fanaticism has no place in a hospital. There are plenty of diseases besides Islam that can kill patients.

    • canary says:

Sheehanjihad, I was thinking to of how to handle this too. First try something tame. The second one enters the room, start chanting the name of Jesus.
smile joyfully and say Jesus loves me, or Jesus save me, if fast repetition, prehaps make a cross with your index fingers, and perhaps the muslim will find a non-muslim to aid you. If that doesn’t work, throw q-tips, then perhaps throw sticks. I realize culture for the English are bow and arrows in political opposition. Perhaps little Rambo type bow’s & arrows that will fit in a purse.
Or slingshots for small boulders called stones.

  8. JohnMG says:

A larger point is being missed here, I think. Soon, many doctors in this country will either retire or quit practicing all together, leaving a critical shortage of health care providers.

Couple this with the “local health care clinics” Obama wants to build, and the need to staff them, then consider that they will be filled by practicioners from every third-world shit-hole country that churns these people out and issues them certificates, and you can see where we’re headed. ‘We’ll HAVE to accomodate their odd-ball quirks or do without’ will be the excuse for bringing them aboard–with official government sanction, I might add.

I think Saul Alinsky must have been a muslim. Muslims don’t care what Western convention they attack, so long as they attack and destroy it. Any victory furthers the cause. Their tactics for infiltration and then subterfuge are eerily similar to Alinsky’s. Either way, we’re being torn apart from the inside, lustily cheered on by our political class and the class clown this ship of fools elected president.

It’s coming to this country…..look for it in a hospital near you, soon.

  9. Helena says:

Quite right, JohnMG. It’s a slippery slope when you start saying “OK, we need your labor, so any kind of cockamamie cultural custom you feel you have to maintain is fine. Even if it means endangering our lives.”

And speaking of which, what are we actually talking about here? Womens’ elbows are too stimulating to be seen by men in a hospital? Let’s just all contemplate that for a moment.

Isn’t the problem really muslim men? I don’t know any western men who get worked up out of control by the sight of a woman’s elbow. If there are, they would be classed as fetishists or perverts. If muslim men are so overstimulated all the time, maybe they need to be chemically controlled. Or how about, they get taught a little self-control? Which is all it would really take – but something seem never required middle eastern men, it seems. An adult doesn’t act on every single impulse, that’s what being an adult means. But in the muslim world, women must be punished – wear garbage bags and live their lives indoors as slaves because the men are perpetual children.

  10. bousquem says:

I remember doing rounds in an ICU at a large teaching hospital where one room was a muslim dialysis patient who had given birth a couple of weeks ago. The nurses were pissed because the patient was on contact isolation because she had a MRSA infection and the baby was being kept in the room because the family didn’t want to take it home. Said family was also demanding that the nurses ensure the patient was breastfeeding the baby every couple of hours, they wanted a nurse to stand watch to make sure she was feeding the baby. Everyone was also not happy the visiting relatives were going in and coming out without washing hands or at least using the hand sanitizer that was by every patient room, then going and touching everything in the ICU. It also didn’t help that they wanted all the blinds closed, the door closed, and all male staff to remain at least something like 20 feet from the room. There was no chance of that happeing, your in the surgical ICU with neurosurgery teams, trauma team, nephrology team, transplant team, critical care team, respiratory therapy, and nurses. Alot of female staff but also alot of male staff, especially the attendings and alot of the trauma and neurosurgery teams were mostly male residents at that time of their rotations.

    • confucius says:

I’ve been called on twice to care for Muslim women. Once was on the weekend and the other at 2 a.m. Both times, the families insisted I find them a female doctor.

I told them I was not a concierge but instead the doctor-on-call. I also told them that if they didn’t want my services, they can go somewhere else.

At the end, both the families put aside Mohammed and accepted my care.

To date, no reports of beheadings.

    • proreason says:

      But that was pre-Obamy care.

Somewhere in 2075 or 2700 pages, there are instructions for how to handle such a situation…..enforcable by law.

If you don’t work directly for the state today, Confucius, the plan is that you soon will be.

Of course, that’s no different than the rest of us serfs, who are honored to be able to serve benevolent rulers such as we have.
