NAACP Condemns ‘Tea Party’s Racism’

From a cheering Associated Press:

NAACP accuses tea party of tolerating bigotry

July 14, 2010

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Leaders of the country’s largest civil rights organization accused tea party activists on Tuesday of tolerating bigotry and approved a resolution condemning racism within the political movement.

The resolution was adopted during the annual convention in Kansas City of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, spokesman Chris Fleming said…

Debate was mostly closed to the public, but the final version "calls on the tea party and all people of good will to repudiate the racist element and activities within the tea party," said Hilary Shelton, director of the NAACP’s Washington bureau…

The final wording won’t be released until the NAACP’s national board of directors approves the resolution during its meeting in October.

So the NAACP members met in a secret session and “approved” a resolution without knowing what it’s going to say in its “final wording”? There seems to be a lot of that going around, lately.

But the original called for the NAACP to "educate its membership and the community that this movement is not just about higher taxes and limited government." It said something could evolve "and become more dangerous for that small percentage of people that really think our country has been taken away from them."

"We felt the time had come to stand up and say, ‘It’s time for the tea party to be responsible members of this democracy and make sure they don’t tolerate bigots or bigotry among their members,’" NAACP President Ben Jealous said ahead of the debate.

"We don’t have a problem with the tea party’s [sic] existence. We have an issue with their acceptance and welcoming of white supremacists into their organizations," he said.

That is quite kind of the NAACP to allow the Tea Party to exist.

And never mind that this selfsame Mr. Jealous invited the longtime NAACP member, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, to be the keynote speaker for their 53rd annual ‘Fight for Freedom Fund Dinner’ back in April of 2008. This was just weeks after Mr. Wright’s racist views had finally gotten national attention.

Mr. Wright gave one of his typically bizarre and race baiting speeches that brought a standing ovation from the NAACP members in attendance.

The [Tea Party] has faced occasional claims of racism, most notably in March near the end of the bitter health care debate. U.S. Reps. John Lewis, Andre Carson and Emanuel Cleaver said some demonstrators, many of them tea party activists, yelled a racial epithet as the black congressmen walked from House office buildings to the Capitol. Cleaver, D-Mo., also said he was spit on.

A white lawmaker said he also heard the epithets, but conservative activists said the lawmakers were lying.

“Conservative activists” as well as every recording of the events in question says the lawmakers were lying.

"They are pulling people together and focusing on the negative, and then it’s hard to make anything positive out of that," said Anita L. Russell, president of the Kansas City, Mo., branch of the NAACP, which introduced the resolution. "And then these groups, these extremist groups, are looking for something, and they are latching on to this."

Ms. Russell and the rest of the NAACP could teach Kodak a thing or two about projecting.

By the way, we have just checked the NAACP’s website. There is no mention of any resolution declaring the New Black Panthers to be a racist organization. Which must surely be an oversight.

For the record, here are the photos that the NAACP is displaying as proof of the Tea Party’s rampant racism:

Apparently that these photos are from the lefty site Talking Points Memo (talk about truth in labeling), and not even from the NAACP itself.

Still, there are no photos of any signs calling for the lynching of Mr. Obama, as the NAACP claims were prevalent at Tea Party rallies.

Nevertheless, apparently quoting a beloved TV actor is racist. As is any mention of slavery. As is portraying Mr. Obama as Hitler. Or comparing taxpayers to Jews.

Either that, or the terms ‘racism’ and ‘racist’ are now officially just mere words without any real meaning. Oh, and never mind that just the other day the NAACP leaders were telling their followers that they needed to be more like the Tea Partisans.

Still, at times like these it almost seems as if the NAACP is trying to forever discredit itself with rational people. Of course, worrying about the NAACP discrediting itself is a little like worrying about Lindsey Lohan getting a reputation.

In any case, there is no denying that the NAACP is getting to be more and more like the New Black Panthers every day — only without the New Black Panthers’ quiet dignity.

  1. Rusty Shackleford says:

Yes, I would condemn the Tea-Party’s racism too. If, in fact, it actually existed. Haven’t seen it, heard it, smelt it or dealt it. It has no place there.

But, true to the baiters, tell the lie, tell it loud and tell it often and surely, many will believe it.

But for the record, my angst against Pelosi, Reid, Holder, Franks, Dodd, etc….surely that can only be racism, right? Also for the record, I despise the wee president, not for the color of his skin but for the lack of content in his character.

Been forty-two years and I never thought I would ever use those words that way.

  2. Petronius says:

An open letter to Mr. Ben Jealous, President, NAACP :

    Dear Mr. Jealous,

Thank you for your very kind and respectful comments.

I fully sympathize with your call to rid the Tea Party movement of its racist elements. I’m sure you’ll find that my elderly Uncle Petronius has been at the very root of this racism. You may be pleased to learn, therefore, that Uncle Petronius has sworn his intention to die by his own hand before the Bush tax cuts expire on December 31st, in order that his estate will not be confiscated by death taxes. Consequently, we believe you’ll find that his inevitable absence from the Tea Party movement will purify the Tea Party, and set things right again.

By way of introduction, I am Petronius’s niece, Livia. I am responding on his behalf as he has had one of his peculiar spells and is currently indisposed.

His day nurse, Miss Latrine Davis, says, “Dat’s one sick honky.” Nevertheless, I assure you that Uncle Petronius is receiving the best possible treatment that the Shady Grove Rehabilitation Clinic has to offer. Indeed, as we have often explained to Dr. Bhopal Hammurabi and other members of the Clinic staff, Uncle Petronius –– were he wholly in his right mind –– would prefer that less care be lavished on him, so that precious medical resources might instead be made available to the more needy Medicaid patients.

He is a sweet old thing really, but rather frail, covered in liver spots, and of course he is simply batty on the racial issue. He’s very secretive, but we’re sure he’s been in and out of mental hospitals since cousin Victoria (his fourth daughter) was killed in a carjacking in Charlotte and her raped and mutilated body was found dumped in a ditch by the side of the road.

We have worked tirelessly, I assure you, to guide his understanding, to heighten his sensitivity to the needs of others, and to help him see that we are all, each of us, helpless victims of historical forces and social injustice, and that much time is still needed to heal the brutal wounds of slavery and Jim Crow. In his few lucid moments, as the sedatives wear off, peering out from beneath those droopy eyelids, he tells me that he does indeed appreciate that he must work harder to overcome the ill effects of white privilege. In fact, he recently informed me that the lawyers will be amending his will accordingly. On occasion, in his grief and pain, I have even heard him cry out for “more sweetness and light.” That, too, is a positive sign, decidedly in his favor. But while Uncle Petronius has made some progress, unfortunately the progress he has made is not good enough.

We’ve discussed his problems with psychiatrists, and they assure us he’s not violent, so we feel the kindest thing is to be quite polite, to avoid argument, and to let the old dear totter right to the grave with his illusions. Isn’t it odd –– and so sad –– that in such a wonderful world, so full of promise and hope, so many people spoil it for themselves –– and for others, too –– by looking only for meanness and darkness and pessimism?

    Yours most sincerely,

    Ms. Livia Saunders Bolling
    Tryon, North Carolina

First off, Hello all, I just registered here and from what I’ve been reading, I love this page.
Now, can someone please clear something up for me: why is a resolution passed by an organization which caters only to a specific color people, so important? It sounds as if the United Nations itself is at work here, even though I could not give a crap about UN resolutions, but at least that’s recognized globally and their resolutions hold some importance to the countries that adhered to it. Why is NAACP acting as if they have the right to mandate and why is everybody so up in arms as if they recognize their power to pass resolutions? Why don’t we just ignore their ass?
Thank you and hello again :)

    • proreason says:

“Why don’t we just ignore their ass?”

Yes. Similar to my often stated position that this country is dead in its tracks until people stop caring about the racist slur. It’s meaningless.

But from the perspective of this web site, I’m happy as a clam to see articles like this because by publishing this tripe, Steve clearly points out who the real racists are.

The great irony of this country today is, of course, that the people who are continuously slurred as racists are not….and the people doing the slurring, are….and they are far more virulent than any other racists have been in this country for at least the last 50 years, perhaps forever.

    • Steve says:

Yes, I think PR has explained it perfectly.

We only care insofar as we want to expose and ridicule such people for what they are.

      Racist hypocrites.

  4. wardmama4 says:

I find it sad in America that bald face lies can be believed despite factual proof that they are bald faced lies. I find it sad in America that the Congress is writing and passing legislation that is un-Constitutional and full of earmarks and pork – that is unnecessary [ Rant: Other than insuring re-election campaign finance kickbacks – which I do believe are illegal or should be and doesn’t that constitute a bit of the ‘corporate/lobbyist’ scam that the ‘for the little guy’ Dems always screed about just before an election – Big Oil or Big Union – I’d vote for Big Oil all the time – at least I get a product/service for my money] against the will of the majority of Americans. I find it sad that that a half-rican American so hates his White half that he has set race relations & the tone of this country back 150 years in a mere 18 months. And I find it sad that Congress, the Supreme Court, and the lower Courts are enabling the NBPP, the NAACP, the Obama Administration and the destruction of America, simply by ignoring the violation of the oaths they took – if it is not stopped by We The People.

Which is how/why the TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party came about – never, ever seen a racist sign, a threatening sign nor heard a single racists comment at any event – nor is there any physical proof – and like the Bush lied/Bush committed war crimes- if it were true America would see the proof 24/7/365 on every single network/media outlet. (Whose only oath appears to be to the DNC)

And finally, explain to me exactly how instituting and carrying out the exact same ‘crimes/acts’ one claims were perpetrated upon you (actually your ancestors) – i.e. exclusionary policies, legal passes for one race over another, inciting segregation and/or preferential status for one race over another, using government to steal from one race/class for another, ignoring racial slurs and threats against one race and so on – is progress, productive, fair or social justice excuse me – but it sounds petty, immature and a lot like REVENGE. And certainly not conducive to real race relations and not any where in the Constitution nor core American values (and certainly TUCC – lacking in true Christian and moral values). And of course by simply not relating the truth or even reporting these stories – the media is enabling such events to continue – What you do not condemn, what you do not speak up about – You allow.

God Help America – I guess it is true – the only way to destroy America – is from within. We have met the enemy and he is us.

    • Rusty Shackleford says:

wm4, you have struck upon a very notable personality problem of the boy who sits in the president’s chair. His half-whiteness. He does indeed appear to hate that part of himself and therefore, cannot come to terms with it. He is therefore, hopelessly dysfunctional to his very center. His driving engine, his raison d’etre is internal anger and hatred, like so many megalomaniacs in our midst; Past, present and future.

His inability to understand how others feel, why things are important to them and what to do about them is all clouded by his overwhelming anger and hatred. He is a classic example of “when good things happen to bad people”.

And, for now, we’re stuck with him. After the zero-in-chief gig, I doubt he could even get arrested. I’m fairly certain his “own kind” will disown him anyway. The best he’ll get is the lecture circuit, decrying all the bad things that he can blame people and society for, while frequently and inaccurately over-using the phrase “when I was president”.

Clinton ended up in relative obscurity, Carter all but vanished….Little Barry? Woosh. He’ll build himself a palace in Indonesia with full security and slutty slave-boys. Mish-hell will divorce him and he will be left all alone to go loopy in the world he has created in his mind.

    • wardmama4 says:

A long time ago when I was being educated in high school – I was introduced to a book by Hermann Hesse – can’t remember the title nor certainly what the book was about – however one line stuck with me (I even highlighted it, back in the day when I highlighted nothing else) – You do not hate what is not a part of you, if it is not a part of you, it does not affect you.

Wise words indeed – so much of what I see and read from the Left for the past decade or two – has been exactly what they are doing/saying – and I have at times felt like I am the only person seeing such bald faced lies, very serious projection and of course the anger and hatred.

I do not see color nor project it into every single issue, event and aspect of my life. I do not see – with affirmative action, and so much ACORN enabling – that the black/negro/Africans living in America – have any issue what so ever to bitch about or victimization to imply.

Instead of seeing themselves as Americans – instead of embracing the melting pot aspect of their American heritage – they continue to set themselves apart, above and beside the rest of the American population – tragically the illegal aliens of Latin origins are attempting to do the same thing with their minority group.

I can not tell you what ethnicity I am – My Mother choose life and walked as soon as she could without ever looking back or (apparently) caring at all. There is no listing nor information on my Father. I do not care – I was raised as a German/Swedish/English American – half of whom (on both sides) were here in America from the beginning of the forming of America – and half of whom have inspirational fleeing the old World (Legal) Immigration stories (2nd generation on maternal, 3rd on paternal) – This is America – it is not Africa, it is not Europe, it is not Mexico – You want to worship those lands, you want to exalt those lands, you want to be African, European or Mexican – GO HOME. This is AMERICA – where you can be FREE, Individual , wealthy, educated or NOT. Your choice, Your work, or NOT. Stop trying to take (i.e. steal) from those who have worked hard and made something of themselves. Do the work yourself or not. And talk about ‘religion’ and ‘social justice’ – even Jesus (My Lord and Savior) said – Those who do not work, shall not eat.

Go read a Bible, or the Constitution – before you pretend to be holier than thou – most especially since you want to be holier than thou and ‘redistribute’ other people’s hard earned money.

On the final part of your comment – I don’t think America will be so lucky to have Obama go nuts after he is out of office – the current trends are against him, it started as a whimper – I would love to know exactly what was the first shot – perhaps Rick Santellis CNBC screed? – but now is gaining traction even amongst those who ‘voted for/support’ Obama – he is so vapid, so shallow, so vein, so self-consumed – he won’t survive another 18 months of his declining support and ‘attacks’ on him. He will self destruct. And while everyone is claiming that the lame duck Congress will shove through all the vile, un-Constitutional and tax hiking spending garbage that they can – Imagine how Obama is going to react to a Republican House & Senate that will open investigations, repeal, and vote down any and all Dem programs/bills/agenda for the next 2 years. Elections have consequences – Imagine how the Poser in Chief is going to feel when that is thrown back at him – ummm, I can’t resist – in spades.

    • proreason says:

“Imagine how the Poser in Chief is going to feel when that is thrown back at him – ummm, I can’t resist – in spades.”

Unfortunately, it is going to make him even angrier….and he has already demonstrated that he doesn’t care what the country thinks, that he recognizes no legal boundaries, and that he is more than willing to do the most outrageous things imagainable.

Add to that mix, he will still be the most powerful person in the world. The executive powers of the president are greater even than we fear. He does things every day that we don’t hear about that do immeasurable damage to the country.

If you think the last 18 months have been a disaster for the country, fasten your safety belts.

The more I think about it, the more I think that he will have to be impeached to stop him.

    • fallingpianos says:

Impeachment is only the first step. He will need to be convicted, forcibly removed from office, and punished for his crimes.

  5. boticella says:

Proreason, when I said ignore their ass I didn’t mean why don’t we ignore racist slurs, no matter their originators, but rather this “resolution”, the act itself, and i,plicitly the organization. Why is a resolution, ANY resolution decreed by the NAACP so important? Does it somehow translate into future law?

The article itself is superb, just to make myself more clear.

    • BannedbytheTaliban says:

The NAACP finds it so important because they know they have influence over the colored demographic. They fear that the ideas espoused by the TEA Party may start creeping their way into the minds of African Americans and other people of color. If that happens, it will be harder to control the language and sway the black community into voting strictly democrat and supporting socialist candidates. Therefore the NAACP must demonize the opposition by creating an us vs. them argument by declaring the Tea Party racists. They must do this in order to preserve unanimity of thought in order to preserve the power and prestige the black leaders have garnered for themselves. Power they can only maintain by keeping the black community ignorant and dependent upon the government, or as I’ve heard some conservative African Americans say, ‘on the government plantation.’

    • proreason says:

We SHOULD ignore racial slurs. They are meaningless. It’s a one-stop-shop for people who can’t defend their ideology.

Defending against a slur only gives it credibility.

The only proper response to a racial slur, other than ignoring it, is:
“Liberals (or black people or socialists or…) are bigger racists than I could ever conceive of being. Every word that comes out of your mouth proves it.” Then go back to the real points of disagreement.

  6. GetBackJack says:

Personally, I’m damn proud to be a cracker. We’re the only folks ever brave enough to actually fight the federal establishment in Washington DC … the one real and true enemy of the Constitution.

    • confucius says:

      I’m no cracker, sir.

    • Reality Bytes says:

Cracker is highly offensive to me. How dare THEY compare me, MY PEOPLE to some mindless white oaf who’s only role was to live, sweat & DIE with slaves; who belittled & demeaned himself by doing what was done to him by his own people to the souls who were lower than him; whose only way to get back at where he was in life was with the “CRACK” of his whip on innocent, helpless men, women & children.

Are there crackers in this world? You bet there are; just as there are blacks who fit their own selfworthless term. The differenence however, is while the media portray blacks reveling in sharing their own racist term with each other, whites are repelled (at least should be) by the vindictive, & utterly racist word, “Cracker!”.

Unlike the N word, there ain’t anything funny about Cracker. And, if there is nothing funny about the N word either, then there’s going to be a whole lot of black stand up & comedy writers out looking for a real job.

I leave you with this. From Richard Pryor – spoken from the heart. May he rest in peace.

I hope you played the clip. It is the essence of what we as a people, Americans, human beings, need to get back to.

  7. wardmama4 says:

I love the St. Louis Tea Party’s preemptive strike – get them before they get you – best way to fight a war

  8. canary says:

The NAACP said tea party goers are ran by Duke and the KKK. Unbelievable. I think most people have never met anyone in the KKK in their life-times.

  9. Liberals Make Great Speedbumps says:

Keep digging lefty dirtbags. You are doing more harm to your cause than I could ever accomplish.

  10. AmericanIPA says:

An organization for the ADVANCEMENT OF COLORED PEOPLE(!) is claiming some other organization is racist. Oooooooookay…..

Seriously, we on the right need to get comfortable with the other side calling us racists. We know we aren’t, they aren’t going to quit saying it no matter what, and it only gives them a way to bring the argument to us and distract people from the meat of any issue. Go ahead, call me a racist. I’m cool with it.

I belong to the party that has the first black party chair, and had the first black secretaries of Defense and State. The same party that would rather blacks (and anyone else for that matter) took it upon themselves to advance their own lives rather than have radical agitators petition the government for handouts at every turn. But because a lying criminal douchebag like Al Sharpton doesn’t get a cut of the action, I’m a racist? Puh-leeeeze.

  11. U NO HOO says:

If a Balahoolian talks stupid then he is a stupid Balahoolian.

  12. untrainable says:

    Tea party – Racist
New Black Panther publicly advocates killing “cracker” babies “before” they become racists because he hates all their iotas… That’s perfectly OK.

Which universe am I in again?
