Nasrallah appears at Beirut rally

Hezbollah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah has arrived at a victory rally in south Beirut in his first public appearance since July 12, when Israel’s offensive in Lebanon began.

Nasrallah joined hundreds of thousands of Hezbollah supporters who filled the devastated southern suburbs of Beirut on Friday with a sea of yellow flags to celebrate "divine victory" in their month-long war against Israel.

It was Nasrallah’s first appearance in public since a news conference on July 12 when he announced the capture of two Israeli soldiers by Hezbollah fighters, an act which led to the Israeli attacks.

Hussein Rahhal, a Hezbollah spokesman, said Nasrallah would deliver a "landmark historic speech about his group’s weapons" and outline "prospects for the next stage in Lebanon"…

Hezbollah has declared victory in the war, during which it fired nearly 4,000 rockets into northern Israel.

Nasrallah said on the group’s Al-Manar Television: "I call on you all to participate in a victory rally, your victory … in the southern suburb, the suburb of honour, glory, faith, steadfastness and victory for the whole country.

"Let us renew our covenant and declare our joy at the divine victory to the whole world."

Note that Nasrallah was hiding behind women and children. As usual.

And look at who else Hezbollah thanked for their splendid "victory":

That’s right. The heroic Hugo Chavez.

Cindy and Chomsky must be so proud.
