Rebels say Gaddafi halts oil, Libya blames Britain

By Maria Golovnina – Thu Apr 7, 2011

TRIPOLI (Reuters) – Libya accused Britain of damaging an oil pipeline in an air strike, hours after rebels said government attacks had halted production of oil they hope to sell to finance their uprising.

"British warplanes have attacked, have carried out an air strike against the Sarir oilfield which killed three oilfield guards and other employees at the field were also injured," Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Kaim told reporters.

There was no immediate comment from Britain’s Ministry of Defense or from NATO, which is coordinating air strikes to protect civilians in Libya from Muammar Gaddafi’s forces.

Kaim said the strike damaged a pipeline connecting the oilfields to the Marsa el Hariga port. "There is no doubt this aggression … is against international law and is not covered by the U.N. resolution," he said.

But this isn’t a war about oil. Certainly, Mr. Kairn has a point. The British should not be bombing oil fields and killing civilians. According to the UN resolution, they are only supposed to be protecting civilians.

Any damage to a pipeline leading to Marsa el Hariga is likely to cause more harm to the rebels than to Gaddafi.

Oops. But it’s not like we have chosen sides.

The Liberian-registered tanker Equator sailed from the port, near Tobruk, on Wednesday, apparently with the first cargo of crude sold by rebels since their uprising began in February.

A rebel spokesman had said Gaddafi artillery hit rebel-held oilfields in Misla and the Waha area on Tuesday and Wednesday, halting production.

No one on the rebel side was immediately available for comment on the latest allegations from Tripoli, which insisted the oil fields were under its control…

Again, this isn’t about oil. Because if it were, there would be demonstrators carrying ‘no blood for oil’ signs all over Europe and the US.

A French minister said NATO air strikes in Libya risked getting "bogged down" and a top U.S. official warned U.S. lawmakers Libyan agents could be inside the United States and might try to launch retaliatory attacks.

"We want to make certain that we’ve identified these individuals to ensure no harm comes from them, knowing they may well have been associated with the Gaddafi regime," FBI Director Robert Mueller said.

This is obviously untrue. The head of ‘Homeland Security,’ Janet Napolitano, has regularly assured us that our borders are more secure than they have ever been in the history of the country.

Gaddafi himself appealed for a halt in the air campaign in a rambling three-page letter to U.S. President Barack Obama bluntly dismissed by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

"Mr. Gaddafi knows what he must do," Clinton told a news conference with Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini, reiterating calls for a ceasefire, the withdrawal of his forces from cities they have stormed and his departure from Libya

The French have responded to Gaddafi’s latest request for a ceasefire the same way. So everyone in NATO is saying that the only way out is for Gaddafi to give up power. And yet we have been told that we are only in Libya to protect the innocent civilians and to prevent a humanitarian crisis. Not for regime change.

But think about it. Civilians would be protected under a ceasefire. But Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton and NATO want to keep fighting, putting more civilian lives at risk, until they force Gaddafi to step down.

We have been lied to. And there is no outrage from the news media, the Democrats, or the rest of the left. Why is that?

“Duuuuude…..we soooo wasted that Qadaffi outfit…..shaaa! We are like….sooooo stoked!”

Imagine how loudly the Democrat crypto-Marxist ‘progressives’ would be screaming if George Bush were in office. The dollar cost and death tolls of US soldiers everywhere would be running wall-to-wall. Hypocrisy like this creates mental instability. The Obummer Regime’s lack of integrity – across the board – is staggering.

    Rhetorical, I know.

But Steve, your up-front analysis of this is perfect. This is the thing, I think, that frustrates most conservatives. The blatant hypocrisy of the media. They have become so plain in it that even the most casual observer can (should be able to) see it. On that basis alone, support for chairman O and his regime should be dwindling into the single digits and may actually be so but because of manipulated polling data by said media, simply appears to not be so.

But the list of screw ups by this administration goes into the hundreds, if not thousands. At every opportunity, they have done the completely wrong thing. I think they sit in a room, ask themselves, “How would a conservative president deal with it?” and then do the exact opposite and to hell with the consequences. Really, I believe it is no more complicated than that. Just one giant “spite move” after another. The spin comes later and is actually an object of great fun for them. They are having a whale of a time destroying decades of hard work in the foreign-relations area and even more fun just spending other people’s money. Shoot, they don’t have to pay it back…so what’s the big deal, right?

    These people must go.

I saw another piece of news on 3rd world country mothers giving their babies poppies. The first one was at night in their mud houses where they blew smoke in babies mouths. The women were high and grinning it helps them sleep.

The recent one showed toddlers where they and the mothers ate it. The mothers said they give it to the children during the day so they’ll sleep while mom does her work. Then they give it at night so they’ll sleep.
The pour muslims are such hypocrites. But, could the problem of soldiers recruiting Afghan police because they are always doped up go along with the struggle in teaching them how to shoot a gun, and their
primitive poverty living conditions. Just live on the opium and feel no pain or hunger.

Gaddafi is saying that al-Qaeda is smuggling in drugs for the rebels and I he may be telling the truth. Thats a bad scene.
Hillary so used to it with Bill though. Doesn’t phase Obama
