NC Bill Requires Background Checks For Welfare!

From CBS North Carolina affiliate, WRAL:

Bill requires background checks for benefits applicants

By Mark Binker | April 2, 2013

Raleigh, N.C. — County Departments of Social Service would be required to conduct criminal background checks on those applying for federal benefits under a bill that cleared the House Health and Human Services Committee on Tuesday.

If someone applying for Food and Nutrition Assistance, what many people call food stamps, or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, which are cash payments, is found to have an outstanding warrant, social service workers would be required to report them to local law enforcement under House Bill 392…

Don’t worry. This bill will never become law. And if by some miracle, it does, it would only be a matter of time before the ACLU challenged it in court. And a liberal judge would be found to declare it unconstitutional.

After all, how can you require background checks on anyone’s civil right to get welfare benefits? Of course, it’s perfectly fine to require background checks on people if they are trying to buy a gun. But buying a gun is only a ‘right’ in the Constitution. It’s not a civil right, like the right to food stamps is.

Under current law, local DSS offices may ask someone if they’re a fugitive or conduct a criminal background check, but they are not allowed to share that information with local sheriffs or other law enforcement agencies.

Arp said the Union County DSS office got in trouble with the state for sharing information that led to arrests…

How can any country survive such insanity?

Others worried that the bill does not provide any new money for local DSS offices, some of which may not do background checks now.

"Who is going to pay for the additional records checks," asked Lori Ann Harris, a lobbyist for the North Carolina Association of County Directors of Social Services…

How come we never hear any similar concerns when it comes to background checks on gun owners? Or, for that matter, illegal aliens?

The measure passed on a voice vote. It next goes to the House floor.

Where it has a snow ball’s chance. But, even if it should pass, a liberal judge will be found to declare background checks unconstitutional.

It actually does have a chance. The GOP control both houses and the governor’s office. McCory is the second, I think, non-democrat governor in about 120 years. I’m sure the race-baiting “Rev.” Barber of the NAACP will probably not be too happy about it, that is if they can pull him off the Golden Coral buffet long enough to tell him.

  2. Liberals Demise

About frigging time is all I have to add.
Banned. ….. your last comment about race baiter Barber is a hoot!
We’ll see plenty of his fat plastered on the tube.

  3. This is why I have NO IDEA WHY REPUBLICANS bother dealing with these people?!

Liberal politics is an adventure into irrationality and INSANITY! Yet Republicans keep plugging away with the calm, rational thinking hoping that eventually they will come around.

This is a great bill and a great idea–FINALLY. Start whittling away at welfare little-by little, and eventually, the democrat supporters will move, and collapse, liberal states who permit it. It’s a great strategy, and while they are busy with this, pass something else in another state and overwhelm the ACLU / government just like Cloward/Piven.
