New DHS Chief: Illegals Have Earned Citizenship

From an unquestioning Associated Press:

New DHS chief endorses ‘earned’ citizenship idea

By ALICIA A. CALDWELL | January 28, 2014

WASHINGTON (AP) — The new Homeland Security secretary says an earned path to citizenship for the roughly 11 million immigrants living in the United States illegally is a matter of national security.

This is like saying a thief has earned the right to keep your property if he manages to hold on to it long enough.

(In fact, we suspect the real way illegals will earn their citizenship is by voting the straight Democrat ticket for several generations.)

Also, how does giving amnesty to 11 million foreigners help national security? Our government can’t even do effective background checks on NSA contractors like Edward Snowden. — But apart from that, Mr. Johnson’s remarks make a lot of sense.

It was the first time Jeh Johnson, who had little experience with immigration policy before he was appointed, had outlined his approach on the subject.

Wow, Mr. Johnson is so unqualified for the job even the AP had to mention it.

The Defense Department’s former top lawyer, who worked on U.S. drone policies and helped end the Pentagon’s ban on gays in the military —

What a shining record of achievement.

– [S]aid offering a path to citizenship would encourage such immigrants "to come out of the shadow, to be accountable, to participate in the American experience." ..

The trouble is illegal aliens are not ‘in the shadows.’ They are in our jobs, our schools, our hospitals, and in our jails. And they have their hands deep in our pockets.

Johnson’s brief remarks on immigration mirror those of his predecessor and President Barack Obama…

Which is the only qualification that he needed to get the job.
