Obama’s Plan Includes $130B In New ‘Fees’

New government fees pepper Obama deficit plan

More than $130B in new government fees pepper Obama deficit plan

Andrew Taylor, Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — It’s not just millionaires who’d pay more under President Barack Obama’s latest plan to combat the deficit.

Air travelers, federal workers, military retirees, wealthier Medicare beneficiaries and people taking out new mortgages are among those who would pay more than $130 billion in government revenues raised through new or increased fees.

Well, all of those people must be ‘rich,’ since Mr. Obama has repeatedly promised that he would never raise taxes on anyone making less than $250,000 a year.

For instance, way back in July 30, 2008, Mr. Obama vowed (see clip above): "Let me be absolutely clear. If you are a family making less than $250,000 a year, you will not see your taxes go up; not your capital gains tax, not your payroll tax, not your income tax, no taxes. Your taxes will not go up…"

But that was then and these are not taxes, anyway – they are fees.

Airline passengers would see their federal security fees double from $5 to $10 for a nonstop round-trip flight and triple to $15 by 2017, raising $25 billion over the coming decade.

Federal workers would face an additional 1.2 percentage point deduction from their paychecks to contribute $21 billion more for their pensions over the same period.

This is called ‘shared sacrifice.’ Federal workers being asked to pay 1% more towards their own pension plans.

Military retirees would pay a $200 fee upon turning 65 to have the government pay their out-of-pocket Medicare expenses. They’d also pay more for non-generic prescription drugs.

Naturally, the military have to suffer.

And it’ll cost corporate jet owners a new $100 fee for each flight.

And this is on top of losing their deduction.

The fees aren’t taxes.

Of course not. Neither is the $3,000 Obama-Care mandate.

They’re charged to people who use government services or receive benefits such as taxpayer-subsidized health care, and they typically defray the government’s cost of providing a service.

The fee on corporate jets and other private passenger planes, for example, would raise about $1 billion a year to help finance the cost of air traffic control

Administration budget documents describe the fees as savings.

But unlike Obama’s tax proposals, the new fees aren’t necessarily dead on arrival with Republicans. A group led by Vice President Joe Biden had tentatively agreed to increase the airline security fee before talks between the White House and Congress collapsed in June. The Biden-led group was also weighing an increase in pension contributions by federal workers, an idea that has riled organized labor and other Democratic-friendly interest groups.

Which means they will never happen.

By the way, we thought ‘Sherriff Joe’ was supposed to protect the middle class?

Another new fee would increase by one-tenth of a percentage point the fee that mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac charge lenders to guarantee repayment of new mortgage loans. The administration says the fee increase would add $15 a month to the monthly cost of an average new mortgage. Even without existing mortgages being affected, the fee increase would raise $28 billion over 10 years.

And it will do wonders for the housing industry.

Some of the fees tilt toward the arcane. There’s a plan to save $3 million a year by developing an electronic records system for hazardous waste shipments. Another would produce $7 million more a year by giving the federal government a 50 percent share of receipts from geothermal leases on federal lands instead of 25 percent, with the remainder going to the states.

These figures are probably about as reliable as the billion dollars a year in ‘savings’ from taxing corporate jet flights.

Another proposal would charge $4 an acre on non-producing oil and gas leases on federal lands, raising $1 billion over a decade. The idea is to prod energy companies to get their leases into production or give them up and allow others to develop them.

Naturally, this new tax won’t be passed on to the consumer at the gas pump, either.

I have thought all along that this administration, and particularly this obamanation of a president had this in mind all along. The “plan” such as it was, was to spend everything then use that as a justification to increase taxes and further take other people’s money, who have earned it through legitimate means.

It takes a special breed of jerk to think that taxes are the right way to pay for lavish and foolish spending. But we have them in droves in the government. But they are not proper thinkers, they are simply posers who wear suits and who believe they are charged with running the big government machine, for the sake of the machine.

That’s right. Play national and global puppeteer with our money, spend it all, and as soon as the people start to get skeptical say,

“Oh, I guess you people don’t like roads and police protection do you? You must really hate teachers, education and children, because you want to start cutting money…..shame on you!”

They continuously throw up a victim as a shield to protect their evil deeds. Don’t want a black communist as President? –why do you hate black people so much? Are you racist? Don’t want a bigoted / racist Hispanic WOMAN on the Supreme Court? —why do you hate women so much? Wow, Republicans really hate women and black people…..for shame!

Ugh! These selfish political games are killing our country….

Why haven’t they thought to call the new taxes “freebies” yet?

That would really hide the decline, wouldn’t it?

  3. Papa Louie says:

Why would Obama raise “fees” on geothermal leases at the same time he is subsidizing failing solar energy companies? I thought he wanted to encourage the development of ALL non-carbon sources of energy. Are the geothermal people not contributing enough to his re-election campaign?

I’d be surprised if there’s not a hidden fee in there somewhere that will go directly into public Union pension funds with the understanding that most of the money will be contributed back to the Democratic Party. It’s probably hidden in the fee to apply for a waiver from Obama regulations. Of course if you donate enough money to Obama’s campaign, the waiver fee will be waived by the Waiver Czar.

Government Salesmanship Getting You to Say ‘Yes.’

*Trick! Get the public to ‘yes’ and then move the $ amount down ever so slowly. When gov’t wastes the money, start taxing those who make 6 figure salaries, then those who have X number in savings, then inheritance money, then those who have jet planes, and down the list. . .
You should know by now that what is said in public is almost NEVER how it is written or implemented. Simply get the public to ‘yes’ and then do whatever you want. “Hey, you said yes, this is what we meant!”

Obama beating the podium with a plan most people would say ‘yes’ to, and then the floodgates open to oppression. We know how all of this never works out in our favor.

This failure of a person/president is an Alinskyite extraordinaire. And he still has his minions worshiping at his shrine. Did you note the long-haired blonde sitting to Oby’s left? Jes eatin’ him up! Obford wife doing a little visualization perhaps?

BTW, if you haven’t read Ann’s DEMONIC, you really must get it. Superb writing and info. If libs even understood/believed 1/10th of it, we could turn this country back to our Constitutional republic.

  6. pilgrim1949 says:

Just confirms that Libs/Dems have suffered long-term, hard-rock-induced hearing loss in their youth and have since then misunderstood our national anthem to praise the “land of the fee” and they’ve been working tirelessly to make that a reality.
