hmmmm. in NYC they stuff the populace with water consevation propaganda. and so, water consumption goes down. revenue (mysteriously) goes down. humph. must raise rates to compensate.

CA stuff populace with fuel conservation propaganda and fuel consumption goes down. tax revenues (mysteriously) go down. humph. must raise fuel tax to compensate.

in ID, CA, WA, NY, FL, (oh what the heck- etc. x 50) they stuff the populace with electricity consevation propaganda, so consumption eventually goes down. tax revenues (mysteriously) go down. humph. must raise taxes to compensate.

what is the gubmint (and multitude of activsts in your area) demanding you to conserve?

I left NY in the ’70′s and joined the Air Force. I have never regretted that choice.

Because people have retired and their benefits costs have gone up. They now have to pay more retirees on the same number of workers. It is the same problem all municipalities are going to face and it will mushroom as the boomers leave the workforce. Many are already paying more people on benefits than they have workers paying into the system. And the surplus funds they thought would cover that have evaporated due to the market collapse.

Put another way … the SEIU (primary union of government employees) is eating your lunch.

This should sound familiar, gang. Remember how Verizon jacked up a phone call from a booth from a quarter to $0.50? To justify the increase, they clamined that usage had fallen off due to cell phone users. Am I wrong in thinking that the price should have gone *down* in order to compete?

Hmmm, if I were living in New York, I’d be reverting back to the use of a chamber pot.

And I’d be dumping it out my window every morning or taking it to the gutter and leaving the contents there.
