News Corps Denies Receiving DOJ’s Notification

From Reuters:

News Corp denies having record of Fox News subpoena

By Jennifer Saba, Fred Barbash | May 28, 2013

(Reuters) – News Corp said on Monday it is still reviewing whether it has any record of a notification from the United States government involving a subpoena for a Fox News reporter’s phone records.

The media conglomerate was responding to the Justice Department, which said it told News Corp about the seizure of phone records for James Rosen, a reporter with Fox News, in August 2010.

Right before the midterm elections. And Fox News never said a word about it?

"While we don’t take issue with the DOJ’s account that they sent a notice to News Corp, we do not have a record of ever having received it," said News Corp spokesman Nathaniel Brown, who added the company is looking into the matter.

Fox News, which is owned by News Corp, has said it never received a notification from the government.

Lawrence Jacobs, the former worldwide general counsel at News Corp during 2010, told Reuters he had no recollection of ever receiving it nor had News Corp found any evidence when it combed through Jacobs’ emails. "I have no memory of it," he said.

Somehow I’m inclined to believe Fox News. After all, if Fox had been told that a number of their reporters were being investigated by the DOJ right before the midterm elections, they would have trumpeted that news from the rooftops.

A law enforcement official who asked not to be named said in a statement Monday that "In the investigation that led to the indictment of Stephen Kim, the government issued subpoenas for toll records for five phone numbers associated with the media. Consistent with Department of Justice policies and procedures, the government provided notification of those subpoenas nearly three years ago by certified mail, facsimile, and e-mail."

The official said notice went to both News Corp and to the reporter, Rosen…

Then it should be easy enough for the DOJ to produce those records.

Instead, we suspect this ‘notification’ claim will end up on the ever-growing stack of Eric Holder lies. But don’t worry. Holder will get to the bottom of all this when he does his investigation of himself.

BARACK OBAMA, World Genius, and his little sidekick Jay Croney, star in “The View from Olympus”!

“Of course” said President Obama, “an exceptional person such as me is able to see beyond the mere day to day, to pierce the opaque curtain of reality and gaze with clear Olympian eyes far, far into the future. That’s part of what makes me special”.

“That’s certainly very true, Mr President” grovelled Jay Croney, Minister of Propaganda. “I’ve always admired your specialness, sir”.

“That ‘very’ you just placed before the word ‘true’ is an unnecessary qualifier, Jay” corrected the pedantic president. “I’m surprised at you, and not a little disappointed. Something is either true or its not; you can’t make something more than true, you see. And ‘specialness’ isn’t even a word”.

“Sorry, Mr President” mumbled Jay Croney. “Thank you for correcting me. I’ll try to do better”.

“That’s okay, Jay; don’t mention it. I’m always keen to help inferior people improve” patronized the completely stuck on himself Nobel Laureate, two time Grammy Award winner, best selling author and world statesman. “You know, Jay; sometimes, when I’m looking down my nose at all those millions of common, ordinary Americans and all those billions more around the world who need me to organize them and to touch their lives in a meaningful way, those who would just be lost without me, just…lost – well, sometimes it seems like it’s too big a job for one man alone, no matter how amazing he is…too big a job”.

“You’re doing swell, sir” soothed Jay Croney, placing a friendly hand on Obama’s shoulder.

“Don’t touch me, Jay” said Obama. “Don’t ever touch me. I don’t like being touched. Anyway, I know that you imagine me to be a stranger to doubt but yes, sometimes even I worry that the ordinary people will never get the improved internet access, the high speed trains and the electric cars that our nation so desperately needs before 2025 or thereabouts”.

“Um, those are certainly vital priorities, sir” said Jay Croney. “Especially the part about the trains. But what about the unfolding Benghazi scandal and the unfolding IRS scandal and the unfolding DOJ scandal the neverendingly endless struggle for affordable health care for all Americans, living and dead and Mexican?”

“Oh Jay, Jay, Jay” tutted the president. “You’re so tragically limited, just like the others. Such a small person. Look at the big picture, if you can: the big picture of ME. Those things are but momentary episodes in the unfolding panorama of my amazing life, footnotes to random pages in my next three or four books of self authored self mythology. Compared to me, how much can they matter, those little people and their shabby, ordinary little lives?”

    “Oh. I see, sir”.

“Of course, I can’t expect you to understand all that. How could you? You’re just some guy who lived and I’m, well, we all know who I am”.

“We’re certainly all finding out, sir” mumbled Jay Croney.
