No Tolerance For Insurance Rate Increases

From Mr. Obama’s media claque, the Associated Press:

HHS to insurers: Don’t blame us for your rates

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama’s top health official on Thursday warned the insurance industry that the administration won’t tolerate blaming premium hikes on the new health overhaul law.

"There will be zero tolerance for this type of misinformation and unjustified rate increases," Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said in a letter to the insurance lobby.

The same federal government that allows illegal aliens to live in this country will not allow health insurance companies to raise their rates and to explain to their customers why they need to.

Welcome to Mr. Obama’s America.

"Simply stated, we will not stand idly by as insurers blame their premium hikes and increased profits on the requirement that they provide consumers with basic protections," Sebelius said.

In other words, the high and mighty Ms. Sebelius will not stand for insurance companies trying to survive.

She warned that bad actors may be excluded from new health insurance markets that will open in 2014 under the law. They’d lose out on a big pool of customers, as many as 30 million people nationwide…

Has there ever been an administration that spends so much time threatening its law-abiding citizens?

An HHS official said the letter is a pre-emptive move, after the department learned that several smaller carriers around the country are blaming the new law for rate increases this year

How dare these companies speak the truth? Next thing you know someone will claim that ‘healthcare reform’ isn’t saving billions of dollars.

Sebelius asked [the insurers’ trade group] to help stop "misinformation and scare tactics."

To which the insurers should have replied: “you first.”

And, after all, isn’t “misinformation and scare tactics” how they got ‘healthcare reform’ rammed through in the first place?

Although the law’s big expansion of coverage under the law won’t take place until 2014, several new benefits go into effect starting later this month. Lifetime dollar caps on coverage are abolished, and plans must allow parents to keep their children on the policy up to age 26. Many plans will also have to guarantee coverage for children regardless of a medical condition, and provide preventive care with no cost-sharing for the patient.

The administration estimates that those new benefits will raise premiums by no more than 1 to 2 percent

And we know that the administration would never bend the truth, especially when it comes to something as sacred as ‘healthcare reform.’

It’s good to see Sebelius is now the gateway for all insurance rates – with no changes insurance rates would go up 1 to 2% simply because of the increase in overall costs in today’s economy.

But reality has never mattered to the administration.

The health care law is even more diabolic that first thought. Apparently it gave the government the power to shut down health insurance companies that aren’t towing the party line. Wonder how many people will lose good insurance because it is provided by “bad actors?” Wonder who gets to decide what determines if a company is a “bad actor?”

      Pro,
Remember the boot on the neck comment? It was more than just disturbing, it was prophetic.

    • proreason says:

Acorn, yes…..there have probably been a hundred incidents where thuggery was the key element. And we would only have heard of a fraction of them. The whole Health Care shakedown was a series of thuggish crimes, for example.

I mean, we all hate this administration, but at another level, it is just so sad that a group of criminals like this is able to defecate on a country with a proud history as the beacon of freedom and justice in the world for over a hundred years. It makes you want to cry.

I have no problem if Sebelius wants to debate the insurance companies about the cause of the rate increases. But, the threat, “She warned that bad actors may be excluded from new health insurance markets that will open in 2014 under the law”, should be an impeachable event. Government intimidation by threat is abhorrent. Is Sebelius claiming she is the identifier and punisher of “bad actors”? Is this whole administration now being held hostage to the “Chicago Way”.

The only good news is Sebelius will be ancient history by 2014. Maybe she will even be in jail for issuing threats.

      Now you’re talking

    • Petronius says:

Rick rightly calls it “an impeachable event. Government intimidation by threat….”

Indeed. One more act of tyranny and thugocracy. One more stain on the old banner.

It was not so long ago that the regime established a government website to report citizens who disagreed with Obamacare.

We see tyranny from the regime almost every day now. In fact, we see two instances published just today on S&L ––

      (1) here by Sibelius, who threatens to inflict injustice and confiscations upon law-abiding insurance companies for exercising their first amendment rights and property rights, and

      (2) the administration’s collateral attack on Arizona and the immigration laws.

The Ruling Class acknowledges no limits to their power. NO LIMITS! The shakedown of BP. The shakedown of the pharmaceutical and medical devices industries. The threats to Humana. Government takeovers of private businesses. Government theft from producers and redistribution to their sycophants and moochers. Government theft from bondholders. Destruction of contract rights and property rights. Calling out private bankers by name, and threatening them with mobs. Government trampling on individual rights almost at random.

And then they blame Bush for the economy. What gall.

    • proreason says:

After responding to Rick, I was having the same thoughts, Petronius.

All hyperbole aside, it’s really quite astonishing.

Our government is no different than a street gang. Threats, intimidations, bullying.

The MULTIPLE lawsuits in Arizona. The shake-down of BP. The rape of the Chrysler bondholders. “it’s only me between you and the pitchforks”. The intimidation of the AMA, the Health Insurance industry and the Pharma industry. The unending efforts to humiliate any body that dares to defy them.

      It’s really quite astonishing.

Remember when it was the governments job to protect us? It is what we pay them for, not make rules to punish us every chance they get. Can anyone say this is not a corrupt institution?

How is life, living under the lash, working out for you?
