NSA Collecting Millions Of Verizon Phone Records

From the UK’s Guardian:

NSA collecting phone records of millions of Verizon customers daily

Exclusive: Top secret court order requiring Verizon to hand over all call data shows scale of domestic surveillance under Obama

By Glenn Greenwald | 5 June 2013

The National Security Agency is currently collecting the telephone records of millions of US customers of Verizon, one of America’s largest telecoms providers, under a top secret court order issued in April.

The order, a copy of which has been obtained by the Guardian, requires Verizon on an "ongoing, daily basis" to give the NSA information on all telephone calls in its systems, both within the US and between the US and other countries.

The document shows for the first time that under the Obama administration the communication records of millions of US citizens are being collected indiscriminately and in bulk – regardless of whether they are suspected of any wrongdoing.

Note that we only got this story from a UK paper. Even though the leak is from stateside.

For the record this is not ‘collection’ in the usual spy-craft sense of eavesdropping. This data is most likely being used for ‘traffic analysis,’ which involved looks for patterns in the data.

The secret Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISA) granted the order to the FBI on April 25, giving the government unlimited authority to obtain the data for a specified three-month period ending on July 19.

Under the terms of the blanket order, the numbers of both parties on a call are handed over, as is location data, call duration, unique identifiers, and the time and duration of all calls. The contents of the conversation itself are not covered.

Again, this is not monitoring or collections.

The disclosure is likely to reignite longstanding debates in the US over the proper extent of the government’s domestic spying powers.

No it won’t. It takes two to tango. And our news media will soon drop this. There will not be the kind of outrage that we saw under Bush.

Under the Bush administration, officials in security agencies had disclosed to reporters the large-scale collection of call records data by the NSA, but this is the first time significant and top-secret documents have revealed the continuation of the practice on a massive scale under President Obama…

Only because nobody in the American news media could be bothered to investigate. But why is Obama doing any of this anyway, if the war on terror is over?

Harry Reid is saying for years and it’s stopped “massive” terrorist attacks.

The fact is when Obama renewed the Patriot Act, people didn’t understand what expanded meant. He made it more evasive and used it for personal gain.

The Holy Bible does not just mention the mark and signs of the beast, it tells the beast will place a mark on everyone and not to accept the mark. Difficult to stop us being marked, but what will be the mark that we must not accept.

If you’re a saved Christian then you don’t have to worry about it. We’ll be gone before all that happens.

The Kenyan is setting up the apparatus that will be used to enforce such measures. I’ve considered he may even be the one. The world certainly worships him.
