NYC May Ban Smoking In Parks, Beaches

From the tireless busybodies at the Associated Press:

NYC to try banning smoking in parks and beaches

Wed Sep 15, 2010

NEW YORK – New York City officials want to take their smoking ban outdoors.

City officials announced new legislation on Wednesday that would outlaw smoking in parks, beaches, marinas, boardwalks and pedestrian plazas throughout the city.

That means no smoking in Central Park or on the Coney Island boardwalk. Violators could be issued quality-of-life summonses by the parks department.

And by “quality of life” they don’t mean the quality of your life, which might actually entail having the freedom to choose whether to smoke or not.

Besides, where is that famous New York City liberal tolerance? Is smoking in public more dangerous to our society than a mosque at ‘Ground Zero’? Is smoking more costly to our healthcare system than illegal aliens?

In fact, smokers pay lots of taxes. (Indeed, taxes that help to pay for the illegal aliens living here.)

Mayor Michael Bloomberg has said in the past he was skeptical the city could pass such an expansive smoking ban

Don’t worry, a way will be found to limit our personal freedoms a little more.

Somehow they always find a way.

You know, I’ve always wondered at the motivation of these folks. Is
it some kind of sexual gratification? Do they sit around and giggle?
Overly strict upbringing? Lack of enough toys as children? Bullied
at school? Secret longing to be in the Corps of Engineers? Frustrated
dreams of being a war lord? It just makes me wonder.

  2. untrainable says:

Don’t they realize that every time they ban smoking somewhere, it hurts the children? Every tax they add to cigarettes goes to funding schools, after school programs, outreach programs for inner city kids.

Someone should stand up for the children of this country. SMOKE FOR THE KIDS!!!
What’s more important… our children {sniffle}, or a little smoke in the park?

We need to start using the liberals own strategy and rhetoric against them. They are wrapped in this warm fuzzy blanket of holier (well whatever the secular word for holier) than thou “We know best” lies. Eventually they’ll be choked into a corner by their own tapestry of bulls##t. When that day comes, I’ll be standing over them with a Martini in one hand and a big ole’ cigar in the other, blowing smoke and watching their faces turn a nice shade of green.

I wish all the smokers out there would stock up until they have a one month reserve, then just stop buying tobacco products for a month.
The panic and news stories would be very entertaining.

I’d love to, but like buying books from the Paladin press, this activity gets your name in a little black book somewhere, and a 2 AM visit from the Paramilitary Force Responsible for Things That Aren’t Illegal (BATFE) is in your future. My assumption anyway.

  4. jimreport says:

As a self governing smoker who feels its only polite to smoke outside, and downwind from others especially passing strangers I’d be willing to bet money that the people on the beach bothering those around them by smoking are other liberals.

    • AcornsRNutz says:

Why is it that they worry about the effects of smoking in public, while proclaiming your obnoxious leftist views in public is not only allowed but encouraged. I’d rather suck a tailpipe than be stuck on a plane with some CodePinker who assumes that I must be as much of a black hole brain as she is. Where are my rights?

Using the upside down thought processes of the uber left…

They obviously feel they have every right to demand we don’t even smoke in our own homes….Since we use exhaust fans it will all go outside anyway.

    That’s next I guess.

I wonder if we can get them (the uber left) banned? After all I would guess most of us would rather breath cigarette smoke from a conservative than the flatulence of a lib. From either end of their GI system.

  6. AcornsRNutz says:

I find that a copenhagen smile and a string of filthy brownish sludge all over the ground tends to offset the smoking bans quite nicely.

  7. jobeth says:

    eeeewwwww! That should do it.

I used to have an instructor who came into our clinical classes with a spit cup in hand….And that made most everyone sick.

Funny but I was skeptical that someone could get elected to an illegal third term. Oh that’s right, they changed the law because the citizens of NYC just couldn’t risk a future without his brilliant leadership, I forgot. 9 years later, and it’s still just a hole in the ground. How’s that for leadership?
