NYT: Fake Polling Sites Helped Karzai

From those champions of free and fair elections at the New York Times:

An election official at a women’s polling center in Kandahar sat next to a nearly empty ballot box on Aug. 20, Election Day.

Fake Afghan Poll Sites Favored Karzai, Officials Assert

September 7, 2009

KABUL, Afghanistan — Afghans loyal to President Hamid Karzai set up hundreds of fictitious polling sites where no one voted but where hundreds of thousands of ballots were still recorded toward the president’s re-election, according to senior Western and Afghan officials here.

The fake sites, as many as 800, existed only on paper, said a senior Western diplomat in Afghanistan, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the political delicacy of the vote. Local workers reported that hundreds, and in some cases thousands, of votes for Mr. Karzai in the election last month came from each of those places. That pattern was confirmed by another Western official based in Afghanistan.

“We think that about 15 percent of the polling sites never opened on Election Day,” the senior Western diplomat said. “But they still managed to report thousands of ballots for Karzai.”

Besides creating the fake sites, Mr. Karzai’s supporters also took over approximately 800 legitimate polling centers and used them to fraudulently report tens of thousands of additional ballots for Mr. Karzai, the officials said.

The result, the officials said, is that in some provinces, the pro-Karzai ballots may exceed the people who actually voted by a factor of 10. “We are talking about orders of magnitude,” the senior Western diplomat said…

Most of the fraud perpetrated on behalf of Mr. Karzai, officials said, took place in the Pashtun-dominated areas of the east and south where officials said that turnout on Aug. 20 was exceptionally low. That included Mr. Karzai’s home province, Kandahar, where preliminary results indicate that more than 350,000 ballots have been turned in to be counted. But Western officials estimated that only about 25,000 people actually voted there…

Adding to the drumbeat, on Sunday the deputy director of the Afghan Independent Election Commission said that the group was disqualifying all the ballots cast in 447 polling sites because of fraud. The deputy director, Daoud Ali Najafi, said it was not clear how many votes had been affected, or what percentage they represented of the total. He gave no details of what fraud had been discovered…

Since ballots were cast last month, anecdotal evidence has emerged of widespread fraud across the Pashtun-dominated areas of southern and eastern Afghanistan, where Mr. Karzai has many allies. Many of the allegations come from Kandahar Province, where Mr. Karzai’s younger brother, Ahmed Wali Karzai, is the chairman of the provincial council and widely regarded as the most powerful man in the region. Last week, the governor of Shorabak District, which lies in Kandahar Province, claimed that Hamid Karzai’s allies shut down all the polling centers in the area and falsified 23,900 ballots for Mr. Karzai.

Two provincial council candidates in Kandahar, both close to the government, confirmed that widespread pro-Karzai fraud had occurred, in particular in places where poor security prevented observers and candidates’ representatives from watching…

More evidence of fraud has emerged in the past few days. In Zangabad, about 20 miles west of Kandahar, local residents say no voting took place on Aug. 20. The village’s single polling site, the Sulaiman Mako School, is used by Taliban guerrillas as their headquarters, the residents said. The area around Zangabad is one of the most contested in Afghanistan. Despite the nonexistent turnout, Afghan election records show that nearly 2,000 ballots were collected from the Sulaiman Mako School and sent to Kabul to be counted by election officials…

Funny how there is no mention of ACORN in this article. (Or even their new international incarnation, Community Organizations International.) But they are certainly in Afghanistan in spirit.

Still, isn’t it odd that the New York Times would suddenly bridle at the idea of organized election fraud?

But of course they are here answering a higher calling, which is to to de-legimatize any government that is even slightly favorable to the United States. And they certainly don’t want to see democracy succeed anywhere in the Middle East after they have authoritatively told us that such a thing was an impossibility.

Consequently, we will see an endless stream of stories like this from them and their patented senior anonymous sources.

That is how the New York Times works.

    Minnesotta, stand up and wave!!

    • Liberals Demise says:

Show us your ink stained fingers, too!

    • MinnesotaRush says:

My ink has worn off; but I do give Franken the middle finger wave (with both hands even) frequently.

Did they find those ballots in the trunk of their cars, too???

  2. It’s coming to America!
    If the Democrats
are losing in 2010 – they will “fix” the election! Yes, they can!

It will make the other stolen elections: Coleman/Franken, Dornan/Sanchez and Christine Gregoire/Dino Rossi look like an etch-a-sketch compared to a gamer box with 30″ Sony monitor.

To appease the left, Obama is going to have no choice but go for the slam dunk.

After Obama’s speech tomorrow there is going to be manufactured, astro-turf support. The Tea Party people are going to arrive in Washington on Saturday. They will be ignored except on Fox.

[There is the potential that the rally will be infiltrated by union thugs and turn violent. Riot police could be called out. Our generation could have a Kent State moment in reverse. The demonstrators will be cast as the Nazi/villains.]

Congress will suspend the rules in the Senate to approve HR3200 or a close cousin of the government option health care bill.

The polls will swing towards the Republicans. What are the Dem’s going to do? They have come too far to turn back now! They have ordered those new jets! What if they are investigated!? What if future Attorney General Ashcroft decides to give Charlie, Harry, Nancy, Barbera, Maxine and Barack the kind of scrutiny that Holder is giving the CIA and Cheney. The Dems are fighting for their lives.

The first line of attack will be ACORN and their maze of entities. They will be flush with dollars from the U.S. Treasury. They have been hired to administer the 2010 census. There will be a get-out-the-vote campaign like you have never seen before. Every wino, hood rat and ex-con is going to vote. Absentee ballots will be collected for prisoners, old folks in nursing homes and the dead.

Who is going to to prosecute violators? Eric Holder? The way he went after the New Black Panther’s when they threatened white voters with a night sticks in Philiadelphia. [here]
They will also be backed up by the American Trial Lawyers who are so very thankful over the absence of tort reform in the health care bill.

The next line of attack will be the voting machines and ballots. With Holder in the tank, tens of thousands of ACORN/SEIU workers will be working the polls. They will easily overwhelm the Republicans. Electronic voting machines can be easily manipulated. Dummy machines can easily be put into conservative areas. Who is going to know. Who will investigate?

    Third line of attack will be martial law. Some tactics have recently been tested. In Denver, Transgender, Democrat, eco-anarchist Maurice Schwenkler (aka Ariel Attack) vandalized Democrat headquarters. Pat Waak, Democrat Chairwoman immediately blamed Republican, anti-health care reformers. This tactic will be tried again. This time by more professional union thugs.Obama will use the crisis to call for martial law.[here];

But it may not be necessary, Americans may exuberantly protest the stolen election, giving Obama an excuse to impose martial law – he is not going to want to do it [yeah, right]. There is a bill in the senate sponsored by Jay Rockefeller to give the president control over the internet in case of an emergency.[here] This would give him the ability to cut off the social networking sites that were so effective in helping Iranians protest their stolen election.

This is the only way the Democrats are going to stay in power if they pass the government-option healthcare reform, cap and trade, Jay Rockefeller’s cyber-security bill and immigration reform – yes – the new citizens will be also voting.

And for 2012 it even looks bleaker. The ACORN census has been moved from the Department of Commerce to Rahm Emanual’s office. Why? Liberal states have been under counted. Raising the number of people in blue states will mean more congressional districts in these states; particularly in the more urban areas where liberals are strongest.[here] Suppose they add two districts in LA, San Francisco, San Diego, Oakland, San Jose, Seattle, NYC, Chicago, Philly, Baltimore, Northern NJ, Detroit, St Louis, and one more in Cleveland, Cincinnati, Portland, Pittsburgh and Miami that would be a huge 31 congressional seat liberal swing.

When does the District of Columbia’s congressmen get to vote? Surely that is coming soon. And all the illegals will be voting by then. And all the new government workers will be Democrats – but it is not fair to add them – they were Democrats before they got the job. But the will be richer Democrats with more money to give and time to serve.

Let’s face it. The line has been crossed. The wagon riders are going to demand more and more from the wagon pullers. They out number us. More regulations and more taxes for less healthcare will be our lot. We are going to be worked like a rented mule then put on the morphine drip when we can no longer pull our share.

And for the wagon pullers: We shall not overcome!
