NYT Claims Obama Makes Gains At UN

From a shamelessly duplicitous New York Times:

Obama Makes Gains at U.N. on Iran and Proliferation

By HELENE COOPER

September 24, 2009

UNITED NATIONS — President Obama, in his first visit to the opening of the United Nations General Assembly, made progress Wednesday on two key issues, wringing a concession from Russia to consider tough new sanctions against Iran and securing support from Moscow and Beijing for a Security Council resolution to curb nuclear weapons.

The successes came as Mr. Obama told leaders that the United States intended to begin a new era of engagement with the world, in a sweeping address to the General Assembly in which he sought to clearly delineate differences between himself and the administration of President George W. Bush.

One of the fruits of those differences — although White House officials were loath to acknowledge any quid pro quo publicly — emerged during Mr. Obama’s meeting on Wednesday afternoon with President Dmitri A. Medvedev of Russia, the first between the two since Mr. Obama decided to replace Mr. Bush’s missile defense program in Eastern Europe with a version less threatening to Moscow.

With a beaming Mr. Obama standing next to him, Mr. Medvedev signaled for the first time that Russia would be amenable to longstanding American requests to toughen sanctions against Iran significantly if, as expected, nuclear talks scheduled for next month failed to make progress.

“I told His Excellency Mr. President that we believe we need to help Iran to take a right decision,” Mr. Medvedev said, adding that “sanctions rarely lead to productive results, but in some cases, sanctions are inevitable.”

White House officials could barely hide their glee. “I couldn’t have said it any better myself,” a delighted Michael McFaul, Mr. Obama’s senior adviser for democracy and Russia, told reporters after the meeting. He insisted nonetheless that the administration had not tried to buy Russia’s cooperation with its decision to scrap the missile shield in Europe in favor of a reconfigured system.

Privately, several administration officials did acknowledge that missile defense might have had something to do with Moscow’s newfound verbal cooperation on the Iran sanctions issue…

What a completely disingenuous article, even for the New York Times.

Mr. Obama has gotten nothing from Russia or any other foreign country in return for his verbal and physical betrayal of our country.

And he will get nothing.

Iran (and Russia) will continue to do as they please.

In fact, they will be emboldened to further aggressions by Mr. Obama giving them concessions for nothing in return.

    There you have it.

Wisened old hoss trader Obamy has snookered the Rooskies into admitting that sanctions rarely lead to productive results. All he had to do was surrender the defenses of Eastern Europe so the Rooskies can roll through without refueling.

The Boy Genius is playing tic tac. The overmatched Rooskies are playing some other game.

    There’s no ‘Gain’ without ‘Pain’.

THE GAIN: America’s enemies and political rivals have scored a wimp for foreign policy.

THE PAIN: Ameirca’s interests abroad suffer this foolish boor of a President.

Many of them hoped for the day a Jimmy Carter would return. And now they have their wish. This should forward the terrorists’ agenda quite handily. Yay.

I saw former Representative to the UN John Bolton of Fox the other day talking about Obama’s visit to the UN and I gotta say that it looked like it was all he could do to keep from laughing. Obooby is an idiot and Bolton knows it.

    Gains at the U.N.?

Let me count the ways . . .

Tough sanctions against Iran to put us in the position to make demands and effectively reduce or eliminate the Iranian nuclear threat.

What are those sanctions? Number one is to cut off Iran’s supply of refined oil – Remember, although Iran has tons of crude, it has no refining capacity.

But . . . OOOOPS! Both China and The Soviet U. . . er, Russia, are supplying Iran with refined oil and anything else that we might otherwise embargo.

So (forgive me), as George Costanza would say: We’ve go no hand.

Our negotiating position with Iran == We ain’t got one.

    Thanks a lot, President Bambi.

Least Pres. Obama can be happy he is making gains somewhere. He is sure not doing it with the American People. So far His health care plan was met with major public outrage, this new bill will most likely die in the house. The public is souring on his domestic economic plan of throwing gobs of money at the problem and hope it works, now his favorite activist group ACORN was vetted by two private citizens forcing the DEMS to vote to de-fund this group.

All the liberal media outlets from the NYT and Rolling Stone are having a fit, despite having the White House and Congress the conservatives are winning this debate.

This happened because the left became overconfident. after Obama got elected Gloria Steinem was cheering that the “future” is finally here. Guess what? In politics things can change really quick. In 2004 the GOP smears the DEMS in the election 2 year later they lose congress and then later the white house. Now it looks like things are going to swing the other way again.

Putin, even being a hardened and experienced KGB Soviet, is likely just delighted inside and thinking, “Gawd, this is almost too easy with this naive fool, o-blah-blah.”

“wringing a concession from Russia to consider tough new sanctions…” a concession to consider, huh? It reminds me of Homer Simpson telling Ned Flanders “Well gee, I’d kinda like to wanna help you, Ned but…”

  10. 12 Gauge Rage says:

Many years ago it was a smiling Neville Chamberlain holding up a worthless piece of paper proclaiming Hitler’s promise for no war but peace in our time. Now it’s a smiling, unbelievably naive POTUS doing the same thing. The Russians and Iranians are laughing with contempt at Obama, and will proceed with their dangerous ambitions. History does repeat itself because those in power never remember the past.
