Obama Admin: Moratorium Didn’t Hurt Jobs

From an unquestioning New York Times:

Report Says Drilling Ban Had Little Effect

By JOHN M. BRODER
September 16, 2010

WASHINGTON — The moratorium on deepwater oil and gas drilling imposed after the BP accident has had only modest impacts on jobs and on the Gulf Coast economy, the Obama administration said in a report issued Thursday.

That conclusion, echoing earlier statements by officials defending the drilling pause, was immediately attacked by Louisiana lawmakers and drilling companies, who said it was based on flawed assumptions and incomplete evidence.

The report, prepared over the past two months by administration economists and presented Thursday to the Senate Small Business Committee, found that roughly 2,000 of the 9,700 workers aboard the 46 offshore rigs affected by the moratorium had lost their jobs or moved away from the gulf since the moratorium was imposed in late May.

Another 6,000 to 10,000 workers in associated industries also lost work because of the moratorium, the study found.

But overall employment in the five Louisiana parishes most dependent on offshore oil and gas activity remained constant, the study found, largely because of the jobs created by the cleanup. BP has already spent more than $8 billion on the cleanup and to compensate businesses hurt by the spill…

Does anyone believe this? And, even if anyone was naive enough to believe this, would they believe that cleaning up an oil spill pays as much as working on an offshore oil rig?

The Obama administration truly are shameless. And worse than that, they all seem to think that we are as disconnected from the real world as they are.

The administration’s relatively rosy assessment drew fire from both of Louisiana’s senators. Senator Mary L. Landrieu, a Democrat and chairwoman of the Small Business Committee, said the study ignored the widespread costs to small businesses throughout the Gulf Coast and gave an unrealistic estimate of how quickly drilling would restart after the moratorium ended.

Not to mention that the moratorium is scheduled to end until the 31st of November.

She said the moratorium was a “government-imposed economic disaster” that caused as much or more financial harm to her state as the spill itself…

This is such an obvious truth, even a Democrat can see it.

    November has 30 days.

    • Petronius

Actually the regime is replacing November with a new month to be called Obamaber which will have 10,862 days.

And by the way, since elections are held on the first Tuesday in November, and since November doesn’t exist anymore, you can also forget about voting.

  2. The report was prepared by “administration economists”. Are these the same economists that have been beating us over the head for last few months with the “Summer of Recovery”? Are these the same economists that said that the Obama-Care bill was not only deficit neutral, but would solve the national debt? Are these the same economists that have come to the conclusion that the way to get out of a recession is to borrow money from China and spend it on shovel ready projects? Are these the same economists that say redistribution of wealth is fair? Are these the same economists that preface every set of numbers they come up with by using the word “unexpectedly”? The answer… Yes they are. I put as much faith in them today as I did yesterday. And, as soon as science comes up with a measurement small enough to represent that amount, I’ll let you know.

Yes, there will be jobs created in Egypt, Venezuela, and Nigeria, but not in Louisiana.

The regime’s economists may have missed this news report from Reuters.

Gulf drillers are predicting “no meaningful return of Gulf of Mexico activity until next year.”

Noble Corp. is preparing to transfer seven deepwater rigs from the Gulf to Venezuela and Nigeria, those bastions of private property rights and economic stability, where operating conditions are less risky than in Nerobama’s America.

Noble’s decision follows closely upon the transfer of four rigs owned by Diamond Offshore and Transocean to Egypt and other parts of the world.

Obama serves the world, not just Louisiana or the US.

Indeed, jobs in non-white countries are better than jobs in white-majority countries.

Social justice doesn’t stop at US’s imaginary borders.

To the Slimes, there are only 4 job types:

    1. Journalists – the highest aspiration of mankind
    2. Government royalty – the next highest aspiration of mankind
    3. Capitalists – the most despicable wretches ever conceived. Slated for extinction.
    4. Everything else

So it’s no surprise that an oil rig job is equated to a job whose function is to dab up oil with a sponge 20 minutes out of every hour.

If you are a prole, you are a prole. End of story.

Every time the regime is dismissive of the concerns of the people, the people take note. And then they vote.

  6. Obama tells Republicans “You Can’t Have The Keys Back, You Drove The Economy Into The Ditch”
If the economy really were a car, and the people we now have serving in public office were mechanics, we would have fired them all by now, and reported them to the Better Business Bureau. We surely would have changed the fuel blend we are currently trying to run the economy – (Hope & Change) turns out unicorns, and rainbows, won’t power – super power’s economies. If your mechanic presents you with a HUGE BILL, and turns around and tells you, your car is still going to sputter, and stall out, at about 10% unemployment, you fire your Mechanic.

It doesn’t help that he won’t even let the people in the gulf with a fragile economy fuel up.

Zen and the Art of Government Maintenance.

Absolutely without a clue. Notice that Obama’s “economists” seem to quit quite often. Guess when the real world hits them in the tush, they scatter back to their ivory towers. Never, never, buy another newspaper, magazine or watch a TV station that gives cover for these nincompoops. Please God, an avalanche on November 2nd!

I watch PBS for two shows. NOVA and Secrets Of The Dead. I used to watch History Detectives but now every show has to have its obligatory “white men are evil” installment. But when they cry for money…I pretty much don’t care. NOVA is a great show, most of the time and would survive in the structure of pay-for-TV. Interestingly, David Koch, who has given immense monies to NOVA over the years was recently the victim of a smear campaign:

And as socialist as PBS is, one would still think they wouldn’t bite the hand that feeds them. But they are happy to get the funding while at the same time helping those who would skewer their benefactors. Unreal.

This article reminds me of the fight with the black knight from Monty Python’s Quest for the Holy Grail.

    “Your arm is off”
“No its not, its just a flesh-wound.”

“The moratorium is a ‘government-imposed economic disaster.'”
“No its not, only 12,000 families were needlessly forced into unemployment by the compassionate liberal government that cares about all the little people.”

And by “little people” I don’t mean the ones that are bitter clingers to guns and religion, and those living in red states, and those who believe America is a Christian country, and those who disagree with obama, and those who think government isn’t the answer to everything and those who want to keep what they earn and those who believe in the Constitution, and those who believe in free speech, and those who like capitalism, and those who think global warming is a scam, and those who don’t like socialism, and….you get the idea.

  9. Mr. President……you have let us down by placing your own ideology above the Constitution of the United States. For this violation, you will not be re-elected and will go down in history as the worst President ever.

I just can’t help but… (there, I saved or created about 60 words just by omitting my real response. You’re welcome)

Claims he created jobs that don’t exist; can’t take responsibility for jobs he killed. Does Colin Powell regret supporting obama yet?

    • Rusty Shackleford

      In short, no.

Why, because race trumps all reason. On the face of that statement, it may appear that I’m a racist but I stick by it. Many blacks are not aware that as intelligent and even quite possibly “conservative” as they may think they might be, the indoctrinated hatred of discrimination, actual or perceived, lives just below the skin. I ran into it many times with my fellow military officers. An off-hand remark, a common expression, anything, could set them off into a diatribe of anger and hatred. Spring-loaded is an understatement. Then the accusations of “you just don’t understand”. But I do understand. It’s that I don’t care and actually believe in what the word “equality” means that would bug them.

So, Powell will never regret voting for the big 0. In his mind, like millions of other blacks, it’s better to have a corrupt black man in office than a corrupt white one. They actually do possess such destructive cynicism.
